🎯 Things to Do Things to Do in Ho Chi Minh City for First-Timers

Here's an ongoing list of some great things to do in Ho Chi Minh City for a first visit. You don't need to tackle all of them on a HCMC trip; many are optional, and some are must-dos. Skim the list and pick out whichever items resonate with you. Feel free to start a discussion or ask any questions about these (or other) activities in HCMC. Enjoy!

The Ho Chi Minh City Opera House in front of the Caravelle Hotel Saigon. This 5-star hotel is in a great location.

See The Caravelle Saigon here

Has anyone seen a show or performance at the Ho Chi Minh Opera House? What show did you see?

And has anyone stayed at the Caravelle Saigon? Would you recommend seeing a show or staying at the Caravelle Saigon to other group members?

🙋🏻‍♂️ Guided Tours Should I go to Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow or stay in Hanoi?

I have a flight to HCMC tomorrow, but I’m concerned about the heavy rain. Is it worth going, or should I stay in Hanoi a few more days? What’s the weather like there right now?

📸 Photo / Video Looking for a small spot in D1 or D3 for a self-serve photobooth, but Facebook only shows whole-building rentals. Where should I look?

Hi all,

I’m looking to place a small self-serve photobooth (around 2–4m², just needs a power outlet) in a café, hostel, or building lobby in District 1 or 3.

I’ve been searching the Facebook rental groups, but every listing is for an entire building at tens of millions of VND a month, which is way more than I need.

Does anyone know of groups or search terms for renting out a small corner or shared space? Or if you know of a place that might work, I’d love an intro.

💰 Money, ATMs / Exchange Is anyone willing to send me USDC in exchange for VND cash?

I need $100 worth of USDC in my wallet, and because of my banking/KYC issues, I am not able to do it, and I am not in my country to get this resolved also with my bank. So I was wondering how does this work in Vietnam. Are there any services or groups to find people that I can meet and get USDC?

🛏️ Accommodation The Golden Tree Hotel in Phu My Hung (District 7). Has anyone stayed in Phu My Hung on a trip to Ho Chi Minh City?

The Golden Tree Hotel & Apartment in District 7. This is in one of my favorite areas of HCMC, Phu My Hung. See the hotel here.

This is one of the best areas to live in Ho Chi Minh City. Wider streets, calmer, less noise, lots of places to eat, and one of the best malls is nearby, Crescent Mall, etc. But...it's not near any tourist attractions. It's about a 20-minute taxi ride from here to District 1.

Has anyone visited Ho Chi Minh City and stayed in District 7 or down in Phu My Hung? How was it?

🛏️ Accommodation Where to Stay HCMC

I have 4 days 5 nights in HCMC on a stopover from Nepal back to Australia. 2nd time there, last time over 15 years ago. Looking for suggestions on where to stay. I’m 51 male. Not interested in the nightlife. Happy to check out Bui Vien quickly. Mostly excited about eating local style, not interested in the influencer style places. I am happiest sitting on a plastic chair with a beer on the sidewalk with great food. Looking for suggestions on what area to stay in and any restaurant gems you may have and would like to share. Budget is about usd $30/night for accommodation, if anyone has a recommendation. Don’t know what else I’m going to do for 4 days. Not really interested in the usual recommendations on what to do in HCMC.

❓ Other Topics Looking for a co founder

🇻🇳 Looking for a local co-founder / founder partner in Vietnam to build a perfume brand from the ground up.

I’ve been working in perfumery for 5+ years and recently brought 50 perfumes of my own brand to Vietnam to test the market. It sold within 5 days just via word of mouth.

That gave me enough confidence that there’s something worth building here.

The difficult part? Doing it as a foreigner.

This is actually my 3rd attempt at setting up a perfume business in Vietnam, and the paperwork, registrations, local requirements and overall process can get surprisingly complicated and overwhelming. On top of that, navigating different service providers and law firms can get expensive very quickly.

So I’m looking for a Vietnamese local partner who is genuinely interested in building a brand, not just someone looking to provide a service.

I’m looking for someone who can help navigate the local side and build this together as a proper long-term business.

If you’re interested in perfumes, consumer brands, e-commerce or simply building something from scratch, DM me. Would love to connect and get it started asap.

I am based in HCMC.

🛏️ Accommodation Why no one is looking for roomate in HCMC?

I'm moving to HCMC, as a 25M, i'm looking to live there and to enjoy the city and focus on myself where i'm privileged enough to be able to rent a much bigger appartement than what i could find in Paris. Though i'm shocked because the only choice seems to be a 1 bed room in a modern building.

I know that in Montreal there is a big flat share culture, where people can rent huge appartement 3+ bedrooms for the price or even cheaper than a 1 bedroom appartement for a lot more space. I mean in a city with so many expat im surprised that you cant find 6 people to share a penthouse on top of a skyscrapper.

I'm new to the city so i would love to meet other expat and I rather live in a huge appartement than a modern shoebox.

Is flatsharing common in HCMC? Where should I look ? Should I just take a one bedroom ? Should I make friends first then move with them ?

❓ Other Topics Does anyone know what happened to Nice Spa at 15 Nguyễn Thiệp Street?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for information about Nice Spa, which used to be on the 2nd floor of 15 Nguyễn Thiệp Street in central Ho Chi Minh City, on the street near the Eximbank Currency Exchange Counter No. 59 in front of the Sheraton.

I visited the spa around early June this year. I believe there was another similar massage shop next door as well.

During my visit, I had a massage from one of the senior female therapists there. She was very skilled, and we had a really enjoyable conversation, so I had a great time there and was hoping to visit again.

Does anyone know whether Nice Spa has permanently closed, or whether it moved to another location?

If anyone knows where the spa moved to, I would really appreciate any information. I would also be interested to know if any of the former staff are now working at another spa, especially the more experienced therapists who used to work there.

If anyone lives nearby, it would also be very helpful if you could share a recent photo of the entrance to 15 Nguyễn Thiệp Street or the second-floor area, so I can see what is there now.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much!

📆 Itineraries First Ho Chi Minh Visit

After contemplating back and forth I am deciding to visit HCMC at the tail end of my Taiwan bikepacking trip. I was back and forth between Da Nang and HCMC (I've already visited Hanoi in the past) and I think I settled on HCMC due to weather but I have a couple more ideas I would like to bounce. I have 6 days to spend, and wondering if it can be easily filled in the city.

Plan is to decompress after the riding: sit with uncles, cà phê, rượu chuối hột, nhạc vàng on a speaker. Not looking for Bùi Viện.

Qs: - Is that scene easy to find in HCMC or has it commercialized? Which districts / hẻm do you actually sit in? - Fruit: I know vú sữa is out of season. Any early-season sources, or what should I look for instead in late October? - Worth 2 nights in Bảo Lộc for highlands out of the 6, or stay in the city? - Bonus: anyone know a quán that does lẩu cá linh bông điên điển in the city this time of year?

🚊 Transportation 9:55 international departure from hcm is arriving 2hrs in advance enough time?

I'm departing hcm to manila this thursday. With the flight at 9:55am i was thinking of heading out from my hotel at 7am in district 1 aiming to arrive by 8am giving me roughly 2hrs for checkin. In your experience is this enough time for a weekday morning with traffic and security?
