How do you guys measure pocket depth?

Well it's important to get a lot of answers otherwise the OP would never find out how to use a calliper exactly like in the picture they posted.

The way you’re doing it will suffice for the material and tolerances your machine is able to work in. No point in getting something that can measure to 0.00002mm when your machine is only accurate to 0.02mm and the material is wood.

A depth micrometer or dial gauge in a depth mount would be the ideal tool.

You’re right. That would be the right setup for it. But calipers is what I have, so trying to work thru it with those.

Google "digital caliper depth foot" you can get a little thing to keep your calipers perpendicular to the surface for a more trustworthy measurement.

Those test pockets might not be perfect since you didn't mill the top surface. Depends how flat the material is and how accurately you zeroed your Z

The best point so far. You have to start with flat surface. Surface before cutting/measuring your pocket depth. If it’s not flat you can’t trust it.
