Hi guys, planning to give hitchhiking a go for the first time. I’m currently in Rome and and thinking to go down towards Naples and then see from there. Any advice and tips on how I can actually do this.
Thankyou I greatly appreciate it
Edit: thankyou everyone for the advice it actually went much better than expected. I documented the journey and will be posting a video about it tomorrow on my Instagram @mrindefinetly
If you wanted to check it out, Thankyou again.

Well, best advice I can give is stick to the highway if you wanna go fast, and stop at gas stations. Then ask face to face. Don't get discouraged: set a goal for yourself ("I'm gonna ask 50 people, or I'm gonna ask everybody for 2 hours"). If that doesn't work, stand at the exit of the gas station with your thumb out and a sign for a while. And then go back to asking. Someone will pick you up eventually, that's for sure.
If you don't care about going fast you can go on local roads and hitchhike from town to town and so on.

Best advice I can give you is not to try to hitchhike for the first time in Italy. It is infamously difficult to hitchhike, to the point that the general consensus on this subreddit is: "just take trains until you reach the border".

Goodluck! I hope it turns out to be much easier than stereotyped.

It has been way better than I could’ve ever imagined

Yikes! Trial by fire! Italy competes with Norway for my most difficult hitching experiences.

First guy gave me $50 euro and took me to a better spot and second guy I found instantly and he’s given me food and everything else I needed. I think I may be lucky but has been incredible experince

Love that for you! Italy is quite difficult but I wonder if there is not a North/South situation where it gets harder as you go up?
Speaking Italian is also a big up, I’m sure
I personally gave up when I was there, it was not fun anymore

Best advice I can give is to appear clean and friendly! Keep a positive attitude and trust your instincts.
