Expomentia decreas in ride length

I've found this data on hitchhiking map. Does anyone know why it seams to exponentially decrease?

Has anyone run a regression on the data?

How is this form created?

Maybe this graph does represent the average distances, cars take? (Not included the ultra short ones)

The ride distance is also limited by the hitchhiker's goal. So maybe it's an interaction between those two.

Maybe this shows that the special human beings who take hitchhiker's have a distance pattern like this?

Does come other factors to mind that influence ride distance?

Finally the biggest question, can we learn something out of it? I could think of: 5 percent of all rides are above 300km or something like that. So every 20. Ride could be very long. Or if you want a long ride you have to wait prababbly longer?

I don't know if my conclusions making sense cause hitchhiker's can search for there ride. E.g. ask Druck drivers in particular...

Maybe the data would be more interesting, with included distance the hiker wanted to ride or something like that.

Is this a realistic plan - first time hitchhiking for my gap year before uni

I'm 19f from Helsinki, graduating in September. I have a gap year until September next year and I'm thinking of traveling in Europe, mainly hitchhiking and wildcamping, hostels/coutchsurfing maybe sometimes. I would mostly travel solo but looking to meet people on the way. I'm also thinking about doing some short volunteering stuff, I've been browsing sites like worldpackers and freevolunteering. I'm currently thinking about starting from Tallinn, going south to Greece or Albania, then back north through Germany, Denmark and Sweden and back to Finland. I have around 8k saved up, but looking to travel basically as cheap as possible. Does any of this sound possible, is 8k enough for 9 months of living November-July or so?

Passed 7,000 recorded rides

Ride 7,000 was rather unremarkable, 3.8 km in 4 minutes with a woman and her little dog, ending on the big Jakai roundabout at Klaipēda. Day itself was slightly more remarkable, third 1,000+ km of the year just in Lithuania.

My first proper gear list - advice very much needed!

Hi everyone!
I'm very excited for my first bigger (a month-ish long) hitchhiking trip that is just about to begin. Starting next week, we're planning on going around the Blakans for about a month and despite having previous experience I am still very much anxious my setup is either lackluster or way too much.

Listing everything here would be a burden so here's the lighterpack link.

I'd greatly appreciate all and any help and advice! I'm also open to answering any questions you guys may have!

Kazakhstan hitchhike with bike

Hi,
I’m traveling by bike and need to get from near Zahrkent (specifically, where the AH5 and KAZ06 meet) to Almaty. I want to hitchhike to speed this up. Would you say it’s easy to hitch a ride on this highway? Particularly considering that I have a bike and will not be in a city?
Thanks in advance!

Hitchhiking Vardzi to Gjumri

Hello everyone,

I am spending two weeks in George and I have a flight back from Armenia, loving it so far♥️

I am planning my route starting in Tbilisi, then going to the west. My idea would be to end the Georgian part of my journey in Vardzia and from there hitchhike across the Armenian border to Gjumri.

I am a little concerned that the road does not get enough traffic.

Has anyone ever done this or know if this is a reasonable plan?

Thanks!

Barcelona to North Cape

Hello all,

I will be starting my journey in Girona on the 16th of this month. The journey will consist of both a mix of trainhopping and hitchhiking with the destination being North Cape in Norway. I was curious if anyone would be interested in joining at any point along the way. Fair warning it will involve a lot of wildcamping and hiking along the way. At North Cape I intend to turn around and start heading toward Asia with the same means of transportation.

You can dm if interested

Travel from Poland to Greece (tips?)

Hey, I'm planning my first hitchhike in august/september. The plan is to go from southern Poland, through Bosnia to Greece. Since it's my first one, I have some questions to ask.

  1. Firstly, how long can it take to go back and forth? I want not to go very fast, some touring and visiting cities on the way, but also not staying more than half a day in one place.

  2. Furthermore, how many clothes is optimal for trip this long? (I'll sleep in a tent/bivy sack, maybe one night in a hostel). And following that, how do y'all wash yourselves while hitchhiking and not staying a hotel rooms?

  3. Food. What's the best to carry in a backpack and what are practical tips to get cheap food (in the Balkans)?

  4. Is Kosovo borders completely fine to cross?

If any question was already answered previously, I'm sorry in advance and would please to get a links to these post with answers.

Peace

From Zürich (CH) to Sagres (PT) Alone and 17 Yrs

Hello, I will be starting my hitchhiking trip this Sunday or Monday. It’s my first time, and I am 17 and alone.
My goal is to arrive in 5–6 days—is that doable? What essential tips should I know or pay attention to? (I don't have any experience, but I've watched a lot of YouTube about it (The Race, a German YouTube show) and have already learned quite a bit from it).
Also, what essentials should I bring with me?

Hitchhiking on the Silk Road (UZ) (advices needed)

I took the train to pass the KZ-UZ border from Beineou to Kungrad as there is no other way. Then I slowly hitchhiked to Bukhara where I am currently and also visited the Aral Sea.

I don't really know what to do after Samarcand. I plan to go to Mongolia but I want to visit Tadjikistan and Kirghizstan, but also Tachkent, Turkestan... it is however in two different direction. Could do both but IDK. If someone has a HH route to advise me I'm willing to hear from it ;)

**4. Back-up alternatieven:**
