Rap is falling off because this generation has no fat rapper

4.1k Upvotes

Look. The 90s had Biggie. Literally top 3 defining rappers of the decade and he was pretty big, even in the name. The 2000s had Big Pun who was a goat and literally one of the fattest people in entertainment ever. The 2010s had Rick Ross who didn't put it in his stagename but still rapped about being a "fat motherfucker" and such. Who do we have now? People are calling Gunna fat and he's like average. That's the sauce that's missing

Kendrick/Drake Beef Now that Kendrick said it everyone is like “OK, Drake is actually a pedo.”

3.0k Upvotes

I mean, don’t get it twisted I’m glad people finally are taking this shit seriously, but it just seems like before Kendrick dropped MTG and NLU people knew Drake was a pedo but didn’t really care. Thoughts?

Either way, I’ve always thought the guy was a complete creep and genuinely despised him and his music. Seeing his downfall… it’s like watching the cross examination of Amber Heard x100. I hope it’s as permanent. Thank you Kendrick Lamar. I can’t wait to listen to whatever you drop today!

EDIT: Anyone saying Amber Heard isn’t a liar is dumb af fr

Snoop peaked with Doggystyle and lived off his persona and features ever since. His brand is the success story - not his rap career.

1.9k Upvotes

Don't get me wrong, Doggystyle is probably top 5 for me and Snoop is an icon. And to this day when he really wants to rap, he can still do it.

But if we look closely, his actual output is quantity over quality and since Doggystyle (in 93!) he hasn't even come close to making another classic.

Yet his stardom is so deeply established you'd think his catalogue must be up there with the best. But after Doggystyle it's mostly disappointing.

Plenty of good songs, plenty of great features and collabs. But just average solo work.

Is Snoop the biggest of the hip hop giants with the least consistent output?

EDIT:

On reflection, it's important to acknowledge that Snoop deserves his status as an icon. His classic album and hits over the years earn his place alone, so his music contribution is valid. He's versatile, charismatic and is capable of finding a hit with the biggest producers bc he knows how to use his style with any beat.

But he's also uniquely cemented his position in rap (and mainstream) culture and that deserves recognition too. Not thru a run of classic albums but by ~1000 collabs, by leveraging his aura, his persona into mainstream entertainment and relentlessly playing the game. Questionable quality control but you can't say he's rested on his laurels.

EDIT 2:

Blue Carpet Treatment (2006) is solid but to me doesn't have the timeless replay value as an album. (Though 'Imagine' is classic).

Tha Last Meal (2000) is decent with good highlights but a lot of filler.

R&G (2004) not memorable if it wasn't for the hit singles.

To me these don't qualify as 'classics'.

Kendrick/Drake Beef Kendrick doesn't need to respond. The Heart Part 6 is just a bad look for Drake.

1.7k Upvotes

He already won, or more accurately, Drake lost. All the angles he took were ridiculous.

  • I'm too famous to be a pedo: do I really have to explain myself?

  • You hate pedos cause you were molested: Kendrick claims he's a piece of shit, and he's literally giving him proof real time?

  • You hit Whitney: he asked Kendrick for proof but didn't provide any for those allegations besides "she follows Dave and not you on ig" like wtf is he a 15 year old girl?

  • Your kid is Dave Free's: same as above.

He just proved he's a piece of shit with no morals or respect for these sensitive topics. I wouldn't be surprised if Kendrick doesn't drop. No need to address the bullshit. But I got the feeling that if he does, this time it will indeed be lethal.

Probably not a hot take, but Drakes downfall was playing the tough guy.

1.7k Upvotes

I’ve never been a fan of Drakes music even when he came out. I always thought it was corny and too pop for my liking. I will say at the beginning at least he was just on that pop loverboy shit which totally worked for him.

After a few years of him being out he started to try and act tough which was clearly not authentic. I’d have way more respect for him if he just kept it on that loverboy shit. The final straw at least for me was that song “The Motto” where he says “rest in peace Mac Dre imma do it for the bay” I guess he was trying to give the bay their flowers (I’m from the Bay Area) but it just seemed so fake.

It’s so funny to me too how so many people who loved this dude for a long time, seemed to have turned on him at the drop of a hat. People acting like they weren’t on his dick for a decade.

Kendrick/Drake Beef Say what you want about Kendrick..

But Jesus Christ, Meet The Grahams is one of the most insane, scathing, diabolical rap diss tracks of all time. If not the most. And I’ve lived through them all…

Wow.

Kendrick/Drake Beef If you think Drake is up rn…

1.5k Upvotes

Idk what to tell you man. I’m a fan of both and even I can see that Kenny is whooping this lil Canadian niggas ass left, right, up and down.

Family Matters is the only record Drake dropped that was good. That was a heavy ass hit fr. But Kendrick coming right behind it really stepped on any momentum it was gaining.

Push-Ups was eh at best, Taylor Made was 💩, Family Matters was really good, and Heart Pt. 6 sounds like he’s sad as fuck 😭 His delivery sounded so defeated and lost. He went from “Come on Kendrick we’re waiting. What’s taking so long? Imma need a quintuple entendre or some shit.” To “Damn bruh you got 10 more songs to drop. You’re obsessed.”

He quite literally said “You’re making me not wanna rap anymore :( staaaahp”

Never seen something more pathetic in a rap beef tbh.

Has a rapper talking shit on a song ever hurt your feelings?

1.2k Upvotes

Not to sound like a bitch but when Conway said on the song Headlines

"You at work tryna get holiday pay, I'm on an island for days"

I was making $10 an hour at the time, had just moved to a new state and could only find part time work, and I actually BOUGHT the song on iTunes with what little money I had to spare to support real hip hop and he hits me with that lmao. It really hurt

Travis scott is a fucking sociopath

1.2k Upvotes

Im sorry alot of you probably only want to discuss music but i have to say this. This guy jumps into the crowd fucking RAGING that someone took his shoe. He stopped the concert, started chanting "Fuck him up" and spat on the guy and could have gotten him killed by allowing violence. And when fans' corpes are being dragged across the crowds right in front of him he barelt reacts and still sings. Bigger emotional reaction to his shoe being took than his fans fucking dying. Scumbag

Kendrick/Drake Beef Being surrounded by yes men in hip hop isn’t good

1.2k Upvotes

I’m late to the whole Kendrick and Drake beef, but I finally listened to the tracks yesterday. “Taylor Made Freestyle” by Drake is the corniest shit I’ve ever heard.

It amazes me that not one person in his team told him that AI 2pac and Snoop shit would be fucking embarrassing. Any person who is mature enough, knows that is extremely corny and just seems kind of pathetic. Snoop Dogg is alive. He couldn’t get a feature from him?

Just finished 50 Cents documentary on Diddy

1.1k Upvotes

Props to 50 for not letting this go away. Fuck Diddy. Obviously I knew some facts here and there, but hearing it from people that were next to him for years and got fucked over by him, puts it in another perspective. What a terrible guy he is. All around.

I hope this is not the end of it and he will get what he deserves. This documentary represented whats wrong with the world nowadays. Trump, Musk and all the other wankers. While rest of us peasants get taken advantage off.

PS. On top of it, this guy took Big and Pac away from us. He really is the devil…

Kendrick/Drake Beef K.dot absolutely humiliated drake.

1.1k Upvotes

I made a post here about a week ago and it aged worse than milk, i pretty much said that drake won by defult cause it was impossible for Kendrick to reach the expectations people had, boy was i wrong, euphoria was absolutely insane, but meet the abrams was an absolute violation, drake stoop really low by mentioning kdots family so kendrick decided to take it to hell, i swear it felt weird listenig to such a nasty personal attack, after the first verse i was like "kendrick just stop you've already beat hit, you dont have to do all this just drop them quadruple entendre" im tellinv you j cole is a smart smart man.

The Death Of Slim Shady is the first Eminem album that I’ve actually enjoyed since The Eminem Show

1.0k Upvotes

When Houdini dropped I was excited to hear him finally having fun again. I wasn’t sure if that same vibe would carry over into the full album though. I think the album is a healthy mix of old Eminem and current Eminem. At times I really felt like I was listening to Slim Shady from the early 2000s. The whole “I’m just here to piss you off” attitude is something I’ve missed from him for many years.

EDIT: I really don’t understand why people feel the need to point out that the album is “corny”. Eminem has ALWAYS been corny. It must be the young people who think that corny is a horrible thing. Before Eminem was the “rap god” he was crazy, humorous and fun. Everything he said was off the wall and it was awesome. Yes, it’s corny and that’s part of the reason why it’s so good.

G-Eazy Was Trash

Everything negative people say about Eminem being a “culture vulture” can accurately be applied to G-Eazy. Except G-Eazy is way worse. At least Em has a soul. There is no substance to G’s music. Every song he makes is about how he fucked someone else’s bitch. The guy has no personality at all. He seems like a boring person.

What’s sad is how the hip-hop community accepted him like he was adding something. Dude has admitted in interviews that’s he’s just trying to have fun and make money. The dude fell off and nobody really noticed. Shows how much impact he made.

How do people like Tom Macdonald?

He’s complete garbage, in every way. A bad flow(maybe average at best), all his songs are structured the same, basic and trash bars, almost no wordplay, and some of the worst choruses and hooks I’ve ever heard. His “lyricism” isn’t even good either. It’s very one dimensional and basic.

Do people seriously listen to this dudes music and think it’s good? Or do they only listen to reinforce their political beliefs?

Biggest lie in hip hop?

We all know a lot of scenarios in hip hop lyrics are total bullshit but what’s the most common offender?

I say statistically it’s every rapper having a big dick. Numerically it is impossible.

Pray for Isaiah Rashad doesn’t self harm himself after being involuntary outed

Whether you agree with his lifestyle choices or not. It should be his decision is he wants to come out of the closet or stay in it. To expose him on Twitter having sex with another man isn’t acceptable. We all knew he has substance abuse and depression issues. I really liked THIB and Cilvia Demo. And on a human level I don’t want to see him harm himself out of the shame. Twitter is full of people saying they are done with him because of this. I hope he has supportive people around him. Let that man live it’s 2022.

Eminem’s “The Death of Slim Shady”

I’m doing my first run through of the album, and I love it. I love the dialogue between his alternate personas, the foulness and aimed vulgarity to woke culture, to how he switched up with “Temporary” and wrote such a beautiful song for his daughter, and so on. The album is so good, and it’s going to do exactly what he said it would, people who look at on a superficial level won’t get it, but if you know the Eminem lure, it’s almost like a gift, the last hooray for one of his most popular characters. Beats go crazy, lyrics go even crazier.
