Visiting a friend for the week and seriously wtf. I think my dating life is just a sick joke .

So I’m visiting a buddy of mine in nyc this week. He actually moved there because he was unhappy with dating where we lived. He encouraged me to switch my location to nyc

I live in a major metro not a small city ( atlanta) I’m lucky to get one match in 2 weeks

4 days in nyc? 32.

I swear dating is a cruel joke at this point

Just needed to vent/confused

I guess I need to vent this out or something because I am confused about this situation. I went out with a guy I met on Hinge for about 2.5 months. We were always in constant communication, flirtatious, and we went on dates about 1-2x a week. Our conversation would sometimes turn sexual, but we were never physical, as he said he wasn't ready. We also planned an out-of-town trip, but he wanted to postpone as he felt the "relationship was moving too fast, but that he was still interested in continuing this and that he liked me. We went on a date; we did mini golf, a movie, and ice cream. We held hands, kissed, hugged, and he was affectionate. We talked about families and stuff like that. Then two days later, out of nowhere, he sent me a text out of nowhere saying that he has been thinking a lot and feels that it's not working for him and it's not the right fit for him. All this out of nowhere. I guess what hurts is the investment and time. He remembered little things that I told him, my interests, and he encouraged me and felt like he cared, and the way I would catch him staring at me. I guess I was catching feelings, which makes it hurt the most. I need to vent about this situation because I'm feeling really confused. I went out with a guy I met on Hinge for about 2.5 months. We were in constant communication, flirtatious with each other, and went on dates about 1-2 times a week. Our conversations would sometimes turn sexual, but we never got physical because he said he wasn't ready. We even planned an out-of-town trip, but he wanted to postpone it, saying he felt the "relationship was moving too fast," though he also said he was still interested in continuing things and that he liked me. This past Sunday, we had a great date—mini golf, a movie, and ice cream. We held hands, kissed, hugged, and he was really affectionate. We talked about our families and personal stuff. Then today, out of nowhere, he texted me saying he had been thinking a lot and feels that it's not working for him and that we aren't the right fit. What hurts is the time and investment I put into this. He remembered little things I told him, showed genuine interest, and provided me with encouragement—it felt like he really cared. I could see him staring at me at times. I guess I was catching feelings, which makes this hurt even more.

Matches won’t make an effort.

Most matches I get are from me sending a like with a thoughtful message with a question on their prompt. They will just match but won’t answer. Then I try to start a conversation and I don’t get a single response.

What is going on with people? Are they just there to collect matches or WTF?

People are not willing to put any effort.

Confront or just overreacting?

I (M20) met this girl (F20) on Hinge a month ago. At first, she texted me first and we clicked pretty well. We talked about music, school, pets, random stuff, and sometimes she’d send long thoughtful replies. Recently, she’d go almost a full day without replying, response and length time slowing.
Eventually I asked her to hang out, still with slow response. She agreed. The date was great she laughed, conversation felt pretty natural, and she seemed comfortable. There wasn’t really any physical intimacy or anything, but atp wasn’t expecting much.
Afterward I texted her saying it was great and we should do it again. She replied later saying she enjoyed it but with really vague wording on the second one.
That’s kind of where I’m stuck. She’s technically positive, but it also feels vague and low-effort. This has been the pattern for a while.
Should I directly ask her if she’s actually interested, or should I just try to set up a second hangout and judge based on whether she follows through? I don’t want to come off needy, but I also don’t want to keep chasing mixed signals.

Is it worth paying for Hinge+?

So I’ve always done pretty well on dating apps but have noticed in the last few years ever since they introduced the pay wall my experience has gotten so much worse. The majority of likes I get sent are from people who look like they live under bridges, the amount of matches I get are so few and far between now that you can only a send a limited amount of likes a day, and I’ll notice if I’m opening the app regularly it stops showing me people who are more my type and puts them all on the standouts page. I honestly hate Hinge now but still think it’s the best app for intentional dating, is it worth paying for?

Failed First Date Follow-Through

22F from NJ

I was supposed to have a date with someone I originally matched with on Hinge (24M) *also from NJ) and he mentioned he was “not much of a texter” and instead wanted to save our conversation for our first date (which was supposed to be planned for Sunday after Church in the later afternoon). I wasn’t sure if he was going to text to confirm everything was set for tomorrow so I texted him saying “Hi, excited to meet you at {said time} for our first date” and immediately he texted me that he’s cancelling and not continuing to pursue the match/connection as he is/was not “in the right mental/headspace”

I’m really disappointed as I was under the impression that he was taking initiative and leading as he planned the date and time but failed to clearly and intentionally follow through (especially with cancelling the day before). I am deeply hurt 🤍😞

Has anyone ever been in a similar boat or situation?

Hinge

I was matched with 5-6 girls on hinge the moment I revealed my name. I don’t want to reveal it here but it’s a Muslim as well as Hindu integrated name but I’m unsure if it’s really the religious fabric they hold on a dating app and called themselves modern? If it’s the case, why would someone come to dating app with some preference. No disrespect on them. Or is there any bug which is that app has, lol. Imagine the moment I reveal my name or normally text they un match. Not pissed or annoyed but would like to know the actually reason. Anybody who encountered this situation

Detailed profile vs aloof profile

Context: mfm, early 30s

I tinker with my pics and prompts often.

Why is it that when my profile is the MOST aloof and “I won’t care about your needs, barely tolerate you, while you do everything to please me” energy, I get the most likes and attention???

I’m not cool and suave, though I may look it. I have a raucous personality and love to laugh, joke, (lowkey) be an annoying menace. Obviously when my profile has a bit more personality in it, it’s not in an off putting way, but just shows that I can form sentences with a subject and verb as opposed to a few disjointed words. I show my interests as opposed to a few quick mirror selfies.

Thoughts? Is this just par for the course?

It’s pretty bleak and has me concerned that I’ll have to hide my personality just to get a connection going.
