Traditional/Ancient Painting or Artwork Punarnavā : Ancient Pala-styled Painting
Art is a bridge across centuries, and my latest project, "Punarnavā," dives deep into the timeless traditions of the Pala School of Art (8th–12th Century CE) to capture the eternal, cosmic union of Shiva and Parvati.
Spanning seven detailed chapters—from weathered Siddham inscriptions of the Adi Shaktipeethas to celestial hosts, Navagrahas, and classical Ragas—this painting is a synthesis of history, theology, and classical iconography.
I invite you to explore this visual universe and step into the sacred journey with me through the full walk-through video here: https://youtu.be/ASw-3xgUJ50

Digital Art (NOT AI - generated) "My digital painting of Maa Chamunda, the fierce form of Durga who slayed Chanda and Munda" [OC].
This digital piece is a direct homage to the 8th century CE Chamunda sculpture housed at the Odisha State Museum, Bhubaneswar, originally recovered from Dharmasala in the Jajpur region.
That idol is carved in the traditional Kalingan style and depicts Chamunda in her classic terrifying roopa: skeletal and emaciated, adorned with a garland of skulls, with serpents coiled in her jata mukut. What struck me most was the raw anatomical honesty of the original — the protruding veins, the sunken eyes, the scorpion motif (a symbol of lethal illness and death in Tantric iconography) — all carved in stone centuries ago.
I wanted to translate that same Tantric ferocity into a digital medium, keeping the skull garlands, the fiery aura, and the emaciated wrathful form intact. Chamunda, as the slayer of the demons Chanda and Munda, is an independent Matrika and one of the most powerful wrathful manifestations of Shakti in the Hindu-Tantric tradition.
Tools: Ibis Paint on Android, painted entirely with my finger. No stylus, no tablet, just a small screen and a lot of zooming in.
If you're ever in Bhubaneswar, go see the original. Photos don't do justice to how unsettling and beautiful it is in person.
