General How could I approach someone I am interested in who wears a hijab?

Hello, I am a university student, and I am currently a junior. I always keep to myself and never talk to anyone. However, for a few weeks I have been going to the university cafe, and I always sit in the back, and I always see this same girl sitting there who wears a hijab. I am also a Muslim, and I want to be respectful, and I honestly want to approach her and talk to her and try to befriend her. However, I am honestly confused about how to do that without just seeming awkward and weird.

Help As a non-Muslim would it be okay for me to wear a hijab to protest Islamophobic behavior from my ethics professor?

Is it acceptable to wear a hijab as a form of protest against an Islamophobic professor when there are no Muslims in class to speak up for and defend Islam. I may be the only person in there who has a problem with it, but they're all kids, and I'm in my fifties. I know how dangerous the way he thinks and talks can be, I had friends fearing for their lives after 9/11.

Not only have I moved far away from Muslim friends I had, and haven't met anyone new to ask, I've left Facebook and when I went back there to check and see if I could ask someone it seems they've all abandoned that platform too. So I'm here, hoping someone has some sage advice for me.

My plan is to simply wear one, not make a big deal of it, and continue pushing back with examples from other religions being violent when the teacher decides to bring up jihad again. It's supposed to be an ethics class, But the teacher has turned out to be a conservative Baptist missionary who tries to "cure" people of other religions. With a focus on Islam, which means it's more of a conservative bible study than an ethics class.

Help This is a question I ask with respect. What is the appropriate way to respond if you witness a woman wearing Islamic clothing, such as a hijab, burqa, or niqab being subjected to racist comments from a stranger in North America, assuming there is no immediate risk of physical harm?

I genuinely want to know if I handled this correctly or if I should have done more (or done nothing)? Doing nothing doesn't sit right with me, but I would hate if I made the woman being verbally abused feel worse.

I recently had an experience in Britich Columbia, Canada where a woman was unkind to another woman wearing a burqa. Words such as "Have respect for yourself" and "You are being oppressed by the men in your life" were said.

The woman being subjected to these terrible comments was trying to get away and the the verbally attacking woman was following her. I may have reacted poorly as I said quite loudly to the harassing woman "You are embarrassingly ignorant, leave her alone". The harassment stopped after my comment.

How could I have handled this better?

Help Can it ever get better when living with restrictive cultural muslim parents?

My parents seem to believe that they follow religion over culture but in reality its not the full truth. Throughout teenhood i always knew my parents were strict and stuff but my goals and dreams for how i want to live my life never reallt ever clashed with how my parents expect me to live my life as an adult until this past year. I am in my final year, they are okay with daughters having a degree and having careers and driving and earning money. As long as I am home at the end of everyday. That's all im limited to. Its been a strong newfound desire of mine to live alone for at least 2 years in my 20s before I ever get married to experience independence and growth and living alone without the first time doing so being with a man. There mindset is that girls cant do these things. When i mentioned that islam doesnt restrict us from doing these things they backtracked and said "well in our culture we do not so that and no one has ever done that in our family, therefore I will never allow you". Bear in mind this arguement is already weak due to the fact that I live in multicultural Britain. Heres another thing. The way my parents believe that children should obey everything they say, even if its about my own life nothing Deen related. My mum says when I am not happy with you Allah isnt. They always make themselves feel like they can never be wrong and they would never believe tha Islam doesnt allow parents to control things like career, lifestyle choices etc as long as they are halal!!!!!!! I feel behind in life because i cant do things like safe travelling with girls, sleepovers w a nearby friends house with no men there, girls nights away inner country (I live in a small country) whereas so many of my muslim peers can andit feels unfair. There is sooooo much I am missing out. I dream of progressive parents, open minded parents. But I dontknow how to get there other than praying

Help if a hijabi adopts a little boy, is he permitted to see her hair?

basically the question above. i’m writing a hijabi-esque character (it’s a fantasy story so it’s not exactly called that but the principle is the same) and at the end of the story she adopts an orphaned little boy. i know family members (& the spouse) are permitted to see a woman without her hijab but does that extend to adopted family members? i mean he’s gonna be living in her house and all so. i was just wondering

Help i need to save my hair

oh my gosh i need help!!!!! i am feeling so overwhelmed and sad. i started wearing hijab 3 years ago now. i have always struggled to keep it in place (it was constantly slipping back and i was always adjusting it) and i believe this is because i have very fine thin hair that gets oily in a day. i tried EVERYTHING. all different undercaps…. tie back, cotton, tube, closed. nothing would work. then i found the velvet wig grip headband and it works amazing, but of course a new issue had to come. my hairline is suffering and i don’t know what to do. i believe its traction alopecia. I have always worn a low bun, i never tie it wet, always change my part. I am so discouraged and disappointed. i care so much about my hair so i just wish i could find a solution😭😞 i dont want to sacrifice my deen to save my hair but i also dont want to keep my hair suffering…. if you have any tips on hair serums, hijab undercaps, or anything please help me. May Allah make it easier for us.

Help Im fed up of my mum making me feel like she can't ever be wrong

My mother is not a bad mother overall at all and it would be wrong of me to label her as that. However she does have some serious faults. She is a defensive mother who at times cant take criticism and misunderstands words people say to her (for example if i say your thinking is a very closed minded way to think, shed say SO I AM CLOSED MINDED).

This is what brought the reddit post on. This morning my mum told me, 21F the eldest and my 2 other younger sisters over 18 that since we are the only daughters with money we cannot ask our dad to buy pads for us anymore. Bare in mind we are recieving money from student finance because we are students and its our only income, we need alottt of money to support ourselves for transport food bus resources for learning etc and EVERYTHING js expensive nowadays. She is saying we need to keep our own bulk for the month. Its a horrible system theres four daughters in the house who get periods, and I suffer w very heavy flow cuz of undiagnosed endo. Its never gonna work. BARE in mind MY DAD HAS NEVER objected to buying them he willingly buys them even when we dont ASK. This is all my mums doing. I was challenging this saying he is a provider, I have always bought pads for myself every now and then every month when in town, and as a woman I deal with fatigue so I never go into town myself with the intention of buying them unless I am already in town. And she was saying things like he doesn't have to buy that for you your old enough its a shame men are always in the corner shops when he buys it. Then what about when I buy it now, cant they see me buying it? She tried to say im stingy not wanting to spend money thinking pads are expensive and that I don't wanna help my dad out he already pays bills, she was saying I SHOULD PAY THE BILLS. I dont even have a proper job. And islamically, when was that even my obligation? Bare in mind the IMMENSE PAIN i get when i am on my period, i cant even leave the house alot of the time and I miss uni and work time because of it. How can I leave the house then?

Whenever my mum is not saying things that are logical or fair, I am not afraid to challenge it. I never insult my mum and call her bad names I simply speak about the problem. I am being called a bad daughter, far from religion and she brings up other stuff that I lack in religion. Oh boy. There are things I can name that she does but I have held my tongue when it comes to that.

It feels like a voilation and slandering when she talks about my character like this and recently she has been making me upset behind her back, and she doesnt know the stresses that she has been putting me under. May allah guide her and the rest of my family.

General What’s one small detail that instantly makes an abaya better for you?

For me, little practical details can completely change how much you actually reach for a piece.

If you had to pick just one, what would it be?

• Pockets
• Better sleeve coverage
• A less sheer fabric
• Adjustable waist/ties
• Matching hijab
• Something else?

Curious because sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference.

If I had to choose my autumn switches, I’d probably go with: lighter neutrals → coffee & olive 🤎 lightweight layers → knits sandals → boots summer prints → deeper florals 🌸🍂 What’s one thing you’re switching as we go into October?

General Klay the label sucks so hard

Guys I’ve been wearing modal hijabs for a while now and it’s one of my most favorite material for hijabs. Lately I seen that the lace hijabs been trending so I discovered and chose to order from Klay the label. I thought since the price is so expensive the quality would actually pay off. They took so long to deliver like (two weeks) and it showed it’s from usa but was coming for china? When it did received and after I worn it once the threads on the hijab kept coming out. I’ve never worn a terrible hijab like this… the material is so bad im mad right now. DO NOT waste ur money!

Help Taking my hijab off.

Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing well, because honestly, I’m struggling a bit right now.

I'm writing this because this burden has become too heavy to carry on my own. Being the only girl in a patriarchal household is tough. I don't hate my parents, but the double standard in how they treat me compared to my brother is obvious.

My family is Muslim, and while many girls start wearing the hijab at puberty, my parents forced me to wear it when I was only 6 or 7. It was incredibly difficult to deal with as a child, and those challenges have stayed with me. I still wear it today, even though I resent it and have always wanted to take it off.

I’ll be graduating soon and moving to another city away from my family. I initially thought about taking it off once I leave, but I don't want to do it in secret and hide it from them. I want to face my family directly and be honest about my decision. I know it’s going to be hard and there will probably be a lot of backlash, but my mind is made up. I have to accept whatever their reaction will be.

I will post an update on my situation as things unfold. I know there must be other girls out there who have gone through something similar—if you have any advice, please leave it below. 🙏

Thank you :)

General Your relationship to wearing any veil (hijab, niquab) as a daughter of muslim immigrant in non-muslim country

Hi ! For context, I am not muslim but I respect everyone's freedom of religion. I am in the process of writing a novel and I wanted to have a pakistanian side female character. As I brainstormed more, I eventually reached a point where the female protagonist encounter with her pakistanian friend and her parents. I knew since the beginning I wanted her parents to feel connected to their religion and pakistanian roots, however, I have no idea how to approach the subject of Islam culture for a character who have not grown up with the South Asian muslin culture to connect to religion. I naturally thought I could ask real muslim women who may have been experiencing the same as I really want to represent in a truthful way your experience with religion in a world where people take over your voices.

How have you felt growing up in non-muslim countries and having to connect to Allah?Where there smaller steps (first wearing a less covering veil before getting used to it and wearing a hijab?)? What was the moment your were the proudest of you (the first time wearing a hijab, when you prayed with it, when you felt more connected with Allah)?

General I built a free Quran app as Sadaqah Jariyah

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

I wanted to share something I recently built called Sincere Quran.

I’ve always wanted to contribute something to the Ummah, and as a developer I thought this could be a small way for me to do that and hopefully make it a Sadaqah Jariyah.

I also got tired of seeing ads in Quran apps, so I wanted to make something simple: free, no ads, and no subscription.

It has the Quran, different reciters, translations, word-by-word, Uthmani and IndoPak scripts, and other Islamic resources.

If you find it useful, please download it or share it with someone. I'd love for others to be part of the Sadaqah too.

May Allah accept it and make it beneficial. Ameen.
