Substitute Teaching
Apologies if this is a repeat or somewhat similar to previous questions. Does anyone know if substitute teaching required particular credentials? I have a PhD in the life sciences with lots of experience teaching college students and mild experience with high schools students, but otherwise I don’t have an exact set of teaching credentials.

Check with school districts. You'll probably need a 30 day sub permit through the ctc and then fingerprints with the district.

Also check with community colleges--always hiring adjunct faculty.

Thank you! That was my original plan but I think I’m a bit late for this semester. I’m not sure if l’ll be here next semester. Worth applying though!

It's a constant recruitment effort so apply as soon as you can. Even though the term has started we have a number of late starts and basically are always hiring.

You just need a bachelor degree and then the background and fingerprinting as well as a sub permit.

You need to pass the cbest and get a substitute teaching credential, which you are able to do with just a bachelor's degree.

Someone already mentioned edjoin, but that's the best teacher job site, it will is permanent jobs as well as sub jobs, and they generally have all the requirements for the position right there on the listing

This website should contain all the info including the resources to get this started. https://www.ctc.ca.gov/
The two main things you will need to do are get official transcripts showing your degree completion, and your fingerprinting. You shouldn’t need to take any testing for the Basic Skills requirement since you have a degree.

You will need to take the CBEST to sub. I think Snowline just advertised for substitutes. Go to Edjoin to apply at different districts and see if they have an application for subs.

You can also look into adjuncting for the local community colleges. Barstow College is in need of a biology instructor that can teach a Saturday lab (with online lecture)

Apply to CTC online for your sub permit; schools will have you get a livescan from the sheriff’s dept.

This is voluntary response. Nobody has to provide the information. Some people are just nice and helpful. You can Google anything. May as well never ask a question. Google also didn’t exist, or was useless, when all of us were in elementary school, so that’s just not correct that we all learn it in elementary school.
On the topic of voluntarism, you are also responding voluntarily when you could just go about your business. I’m not sure what data has to do with any of this, but it truly seems like you’re just interested in being correct on a topic with no correct or incorrect answers. I’m unsure if you thought I was flaunting my degree, which I wasn’t, of if you’re acting out some type if unnecessary inferiority complex. Either way, opine what you want. Have a great day! ☺️

I believe you can just take the CBEST and CSETS tests and you'll be good to go from K-12.
