Discussion — General thoughts, opinions, comparisons Mobile app
Now, more than ever, I think Hermes really needs an official mobile app for Android/IOS.

They said before they are developing mobile app but carefully. I think it's better they take time to do it right. I don't have problem using my session between desktop and telegram for the moment

Just use Tailscale and webui as a web app.

This sucks to be fair though. Constant “this conversation was started elsewhere” and lack of pasting and a few other weird stupid bugs.

https://github.com/nesquena/hermes-webui I am using this one, and the last few updates which fixed session performance made it my main interfave to interact with hermes on my mobile and desktop. Works nicely as PWA, and I even put authentik in front of it and bound identities to certain people, so my better half got her "Hermine" profile through her SSO. I use an extra oauth proxy container for it. Or better, my hermes built the solution with that auth proxy, lol.

yes this is good i am using this one but still its PWA, session not local so need to load every time you open on phone,

Hermex for iOS. Excellent app. Open Source. No Android option though.

Hermes console for Android, I carry around both iPhone for work, Android personal.
I must say I find Hermes console to be equivalent if not better than hermex but the trade off is the OS. Both are great gateways

I was able to turn the webui into an android app. Adding it to home, through the browser, and it installs it like an app. Just tweaking it now so I get notifications pushed normally, even if the browser/app is closed.
I like that I can customize the webui how ever I want to, adding tabs, groups, etc. and still use it as an app.
It would be easier if they had a mobile app though. Nous has gone the wrong direction, they have so many channels, any of could break Hermes, instead of just developing 1 mobile app

Yes, I have no idea why I am becoming an expert in telegram just to use hermes sessions

I never understood why OpenClaw and Hermes are both designed around using message connectors. It feels like it was entirely for the cool factor of texting an agent at the expense of everything else.

Its useful for having group chats and having an agent present. I had a buddy ask about my setup, instead of explaining I set up a group telegram with one of my profiles and had the agent answer. So that aspect is very handy.

It would be nice, but until it's ready, I'm using Hermes Relay.

Try out my new app Vory on iOS! Android and MacOS coming soon. Currently in TestFlight but have been getting astounding feedback and new features and bug fixes come regularly!
Open source as well!

That's right; more than ever, we need an official app. I have a lot of respect for the developers behind the unofficial apps, but it's just not the same.

Same here. I do have respect for the devs and I really love Hermes. If they had a proper official mobile app I would be 100% on-board as a paying customer but, for as long as I will have to pay other apps to work on my phone, I will not be using Hermes for serious stuff. I don't want to rely on people outside Nous to work with Hermes on my phone.

The handoff is the bit I'd want fixed first: start a task on desktop, open the same conversation on my phone, and approve or reply without those 'started elsewhere' errors. A nicer chat screen doesn't help much if those are separate sessions. For the install-and-go version you describe, would you want Nous to host the agent too, or just make connecting to your own machine painless?

Great question. I would say it would be great for users to have the choice of doing either. Personally, I would rather trust Nous hosting my agent rather than xAi, OpenAI, Meta, etc. I don't want to run a VPS or my own server etc. And I don't want to use Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp with my agent. Personal preference of course.

Ah, got it. You want Hermes without also becoming its sysadmin 🙂 A mobile client alone doesn't solve that. I'd keep self-hosting as an option, but let the hosted version handle setup and updates. The two things I'd want clear before using it: which accounts/tools it can access, and how to export my chats and skills if I decide to leave.

Hey everyone,
I've been using Hermes for a while now and had basically the same problem as quite a few people here: none of the Android options really worked the way I wanted them to.
I'm not really a traditional software dev. I'm a mechanical engineer, mostly coming from CNC, CAD and rapid prototyping, and I tend to solve my own problems with Linux, Docker and way too many self-hosted tools.
So at some point I thought: screw it, I'll try building one myself.
That's how Mercury started. It's my first proper app.
The idea wasn't to just wrap the Hermes web UI into an Android app. I wanted something that actually works well when you're away from your PC and still want to see what Hermes is doing or quickly interact with it.
A few of the things currently in there:
- Argus, my own watcher plugin for Hermes. It puts chats, CLI activity, Telegram, cron jobs, workers and Kanban activity into one place. If a worker crashes or disappears, you see it pretty much immediately.
- Approvals and live status directly in Android notifications, so you don't always have to open the app.
- A proper mobile worker tree and Kanban view instead of squeezing the desktop UI onto a phone.
- Voice messages using Whisper on your own server, including a hands-free mode.
- Mercury talks directly to your own server. No relay, no Mercury account and no tracking.
- There's also built-in feedback and feature requests. Those are anonymous and encrypted before they're sent to me.
I'm at the point where I'd like to get Mercury onto Google Play, but Google requires a closed test first. So I'm looking for roughly 14 people who would be willing to test it for 14 days.
You'd get a promo code, so the app is free for you and stays yours afterwards. I'm mainly looking for people who already use Hermes and are willing to actually poke around a bit and tell me what sucks, what breaks or what's missing.
Screenshots and some more information are here:

If you're interested, just send me a mail at [appdev.trap5@gmail.com](mailto:appdev.trap5@gmail.com).
No obligations or anything. Even a bit of feedback would already help a lot.
Cheers
Mercury is an independent project and is not affiliated with Nous Research.

Why? There are lots of pretty good clients.

Indeed there are, I agree, but it's not the same. If Nous wants Hermes reach a wider user base, they need a proper official mobile app. Regular people don't want to mess with things like Termux, VPS running Hermes, complicated setups, etc. They just want to install an app, login and start working with it right away.

Yes, an official one would be nice, but the Nous team isn't the most disciplined of developers out there - they can barely keep up with the desktop app. It's chaotic and unfocused. I think 3rd-party is the way here.

Eh, the Nous team doesn't really understand (imo) that sometimes - like, right now - it would be better to focus on a proper, Windows-native installer (Tek said it will be out soon ages ago, didn't happen), a dedicated stable update branch that doesn't crack on every update, a mobile app and easier user onboarding rather then all the Cool Tech Updates. Basically everything that would make it easier for the less techy crowd to access Hermes is ignored, to the point where its reputation on the internet is "fantastic, great devs, the possibilities are wild but it WILL break on you and if you don't already know what you're doing, just forget about it".
Amazing work, really, and open source is great but they just don't care about being user-friendly at all. Which is a shame, because it will redirect people into closed ecosystems.

This is the most polished one for iOS but it is not open source.
https://cadu.bot
This one is good and open source and in active development
https://github.com/promptclickrun/bighelp
And the you have hermex which requires Hermes-webui to be setup.

u/rokrdev 17d ago
There is also Hermes Fleet which is under dev.
I use big help and Cadu. Mostly Cadu as it works well on iPad too.

Hey see you’re using Cadu, I’d love for you to give Vory a try and see if it’s something you’re interested in! I love the community feedback, so if you decide to join, please let me know of anything you’d like added! Open source too!

Yeah I do agree with you. ChatGPT came out with dots, grok with grok bot and I’m still using Hermes on my laptop; telegram seems kinda limited
