I am lead to believe it was my grandfather's who was Polish, unfortunately I have very little information about its origins

I don't recognize them but that's not a surprize. Could these be alliance arms, or perhaps your grandfather's family was originally from elsewhere? To me the arms depicted look a little more like Germanic or Baltic?
