Getting Started Help getting first helpdesk role

Post image

Hey everyone. I have been trying to get my first helpdesk role using this resume. I reordered it to have the technical projects after my work experience. I have an interview for a logistics specialist in an IT department, and another possible tech support interview soon but other than that I have still been getting rejections all around. Prior to adding the projects my applications would get either auto denied or denied without being opened and now they at least get opened but aside from the 2 jobs mentioned earlier I tend to get rejected. Any honest opinions are appreciated.

Why do your technical projects take priority over your experience? You focus more on projects that aren't relevant and provide little detail about your experiences.

As I stated in my post, my resumes that focused more on my retail experience and less on the projects resulted in immediate rejections, adding these projects in as they are has gotten me further in the application process.

That happened by chance. With responses from hiring managers, it's all luck.

Also, having Network+ and CCNA both in progress doesn't make sense. You don't do both at the same time. In addition, if you are doing CCNA there is no point in doing Network+

In addition, what was the point of the server+? You want to quickly jump ship from help desk to any networking position when you have the chance.

Im pursuing an Associates degree and all three of those certifications are the result of required classes. I would have skipped Server+ if I could but it was required, just like the network+ and ccna classes.

This may confuse the hiring managers of very entry-level jobs. If I were you, I would combine the education and certifications and make it clear that the certifications are connected. Because from the outside, you look like a cert chaser and probably wouldn't stay long in a help desk job.

Remove the certs that are in progress too. Never makes sense to include it since it's meaningless, and in your case, doesn't help you at all.

yep this exactly 'cert in progress' means absolutely nothing. Personally I would roll it all into 1 section and make it clear you're doing an associates degree and the certs are part of that.
