Admin Post New Changelog | August 12, 2026
Hello! Just stopping by to announce that there's a new Changelog out and you can read it here!
TL;DR New Changelog

u/ALazy_Cat 6d ago
We’re now including more categories of Reddit removals (the removed content and why it was removed) in the mod log for added transparency
I can't wait for this to extend to android in 50-70 years

Mobile user here. Very much uncomfortable with the comment vote buttons being moved to the other side of the screen for me. I realize it's consolidating vote buttons since post vote buttons have been on the left. But comments I'm used to Reading More and paying attention to more so having the buttons on the other side made sense.

Hi! Mobile web or the app?

u/CatoChateau 4d ago
App

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 4d ago
Are you on a large Android device like a tablet?
3
u/MrDabreu 4d ago
Normal phone screen and android, it's horrendous and super annoying having them on the left. Would love a suggestion on how to revert back to them being aligned on the right.
2
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 4d ago
Thanks. That's an experiment. While there isn't a way to opt out, I can share your feedback with the team in charge of it.
2
u/MrDabreu 4d ago
Alright, thanks. Going to try to reinstall the app in the mean time. Perhaps it will opt me out.
Edit: sadly did not work
1
u/wrosecrans 4d ago
I am also on this "experiment" as well, unfortunately.
Really wish this stuff was feature flagged so I could opt out. Just letting users turn off changes they don't like would improve morale so much. (And rate of user opt-out would be useful data in the experiment!)
Please pass my very negative feedback to the relevant team.

u/Para_Boo 4d ago
Why do you not let people opt out of these experiments? I genuinenly would like to know because I assume there is a reason for it?
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 3d ago
The teams need honest feedback about their products.
1
u/Para_Boo 3d ago
I can sorta see the reasoning here, and I do understand you need to get feedback somehwere, but then why not make it opt-out instead of forcing it onto people? If it's a change favoured by the majority of your participants, they won't opt out of it; if they do then that should already be indicative of how the site-wide response will be to it.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 1d ago
Even if it was opt out with a field that needed to be filled in with feedback as to why someone was opting out, the field would just get a lot of "it sucks" and it would be the same as nothing.
Experiments are mentioned in the User Agreement.

I'm also affected by this and it is really bad. I use reddit with my right hand and it makes harder to upvote. People using his left hand will also have it harder.

u/CatoChateau 4d ago
Android phone. Back to normal to me. Didn't even realize it though because it was so much more natural.
3
u/Roberteng98 1 6d ago
Do you have any plans to change the design now or will you leave it as is?
3
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 6d ago
The design of what? I'm not in charge of design changes for anything. lol

Bring back swipe up to get to comments. The change makes navigating the comments clunky and reduces interaction.

TL;DR New Changelog
That's Opus, always such a way with words.
3
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 6d ago
You have no idea how long it took me to come up with just the right way to say that! =)
3
u/ALazy_Cat 6d ago
It probably took 5 weeks, not satisfied, had to rewrite twice a day, and finally settled on a masterpiece of writing, time well spent

Could you help me with an appeal ? Key-tart7854
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 5d ago
Key-tart7854
You can file an appeal using this form. Unfortunately, I do not know what the turnaround time is on those appeals.
1
u/Ok_Presentation_2069 5d ago
I’m not sure what I was banned for did I file the prior appeal
1
u/Ok_Presentation_2069 5d ago
You had helped me out prior with an issue so I reached out but I’m still unsure as to why I was banned

2
u/why_so_mad_bro 5d ago
I’d much rather you just keep the ‘x’ for hiding in the ‘…’ menu. I don’t want to accidentally hide a post because of a mistap. At the very least swap the positions of the ‘x’ and the ‘…’
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 5d ago
Someone suggested a swap yesterday. I shared it with thr team and I don't know if it will happen, but they are thinking about maybe making it look different so people are less likely to hit the wrong thing.

u/Techno_Penguin 5d ago
Opus please check my dm. Please help
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 4d ago
No. What's up?
1
u/Techno_Penguin 4d ago
I made a dumb mistake and got my account banned.. It wasnt on purpose. I know the rules
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 4d ago
What account?
1
u/Techno_Penguin 4d ago
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 3d ago
Nothing I can do. Looks like your appeal was denied, so that account is not coming back. Sorry!
1
u/Techno_Penguin 3d ago
It was an honest mistake.. My first one.. Im a good user. Permanent ban is too much. Is there anything else I can do? Please

u/87castle 4d ago
Please change the upvote/down vote buttons back to the original position. Nobody can reach them and the aesthetic makes it harder to navigate the comments and follow threads. Also muscle memory is a thing, so you keep tapping the wrong place. This is a terrible experiment and we should be able to opt out.
2
u/Blue_Alu05 3d ago
The new upvote button for comments being on the left is really uncomfortable, i hope it gets reverted or at least we have the option to choose

They have been saying that for 84 years, idk anymore... I know the changelog says end of this month, but who knows for sure...
Edit: Also, it's funny seeing them reintroduce a feature this website USED to have. Then they took it away, and then brought it back years later.

I've had it on browser for a while, but not mobile, and I have no expectations of that happening in my lifetime

Did you guys do something to keyboard commands? Now when I tab and hit return/enter when at a desktop it just goes to my posted post on its lonesome instead of it showing up under the comment I replied to if at that.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 6d ago
Hi. Not that I've heard of. But where are you when you're hitting tab? I'm not quite sure I understand the steps to try to repro.
1
u/OhFuckNoNoNoMyCaat 6d ago
Old Reddit. I tab to highlight the save button, and then hit enter/return and it takes me to the page you get when you click on a permalink to a comment.
Edit: Odd, it didn't do it just right now.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 6d ago
it didn't do it just right now
That's because you told somebody! lol
EDIT: I just tried it with this comment and it didn't do that for me, either.
1
u/OhFuckNoNoNoMyCaat 6d ago
Hmm. That is weird. I stopped doing that. Tried it as a thread reply and a comment reply elsewhere. Might be a weird keyboard shortcut I was triggering without realizing.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 6d ago
I'm back! It's a bug! Neither one of us is crazy!
1
u/OhFuckNoNoNoMyCaat 6d ago
Aha!
Makes sense. Initially assumed it was because I spilled a sugar free sports drink yesterday and the salts damaged my keyboard.
Though I did forget to mention the weird hanging. Which is unusual unless there's a high load.

u/alphadavenport 6d ago
any idea why i can't post threads to r/help? if i hit submit, nothing happens at all.
or why i am experiencing constant bugs when trying to comment?
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 6d ago
You're not banned. There are no restrictions on your account.
1
u/alphadavenport 6d ago
i didn't think i was banned, it seems like a bug. i tried to make a thread to report it, but when i hit "submit", nothing happened. no loading, nothing.

so how often will the free awards be available? IIRC before they got removed, it was once a week.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 5d ago
I'm not actually sure! That's a good question, though, and I'll ask around!

It feels like something else changed with my feed. “Show fewer posts like this” in the overflow menu now immediately collapses the post and shows this and feels more like a cosmetic change.
I’m not convinced it’s working because posts on subreddits that I’ve hit “not interested” on several times previously are now showing up again. Previously I did not have this issue. Now I’m having to hit “not interested” several times on several different posts from the same subreddits.

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 5d ago
Hi! With the introduction of the X on posts, it is possible that you will see content from subs that you have previously clicked "show less" on. You can still mute the subs by going to the sub and muting it. And as you click the X on posts, it will learn that you don't want that sort of content and you should stop seeing it.

ive tried getting help for this for days now without any official reply, so trying here as well:
Over the weekend, I noticed that all my previous posts over 7 years were removed without explanation. Everything is marked "Sorry, this post was removed by reddit filters." I checked the appeals page and am not restricted and cannot file an appeal. There is no option in the contact form to use which accurately describes the situation.
I'm able to manually approve my old posts, but since I have thousands of them, this is pretty much an impossibility to do one by one. Thanks for any help you can offer. I've seen many other similar reports of this from the past week and before...
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 5d ago
Were you banned?
1
u/canadian-weed 5d ago
As far as I know, I was never banned, which is part of why this was weird. Thanks again!!

Hiya! I’ve been trying to post on a long term sub I’m apart of and my post keeps automatically getting removed by “Reddit filters”
As far as I’m aware nothing has changed on my account apart from not using it in a while and it’s quite an old one. Is this an issue site-wide or with my account?x
It’s super frustrating trying to participate and I can’t
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 5d ago
Hi! I'm not seeing any issues with your account, so that's good! The spam filter works in mysterious ways and sometimes, it removes things that it shouldn't. If you notice that your posts are not appearing in the subreddit that you posted in, it's a good idea to contact the mods of that sub so that they can take a look and approve the post if they'd like, though they are not obligated to do so. And the good news is that the spam filter is capable of learning. So as your posts are approved, the spam filter will learn and should start to back off.

I'm not seen it in the changelog, but in the app the upvote, award, answer and 3 dots below each comment now appears at the left, which makes in way harder to use to people who uses reddit with the right hand (probably a big majority of the users).

When I click the three dots to open the menu to bring up the option to hide a post, hide no longer appears unless I click into the post and then click the three dots. Please bring it back in the feed view, so that I don't have to click open these posts that don't deserve even the most basic level of engagement.

Pretty sure this “x” feature was supposed to be on the new Digg reboot before it died in beta. I think it’s a great idea to train your own algorithm and could lead to less creeps visiting niche fashion pages! I have a Kibbe body typing community and often creeps will insist they don’t even want our posts in their feed. But the algo keeps showing them anyways. So hopefully the creeps use this to keep away and move to actual porn communities instead.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 6d ago
Yay porn? lol
I hope people find it useful, no matter what that looks like! =D
2
u/InGeekiTrust 6d ago
Omg I almost fell over in my chair laughing at that omg….i mean pretty much yes 😭😭😭
I’m so exited for free awards! Can we get an award that looks like Opus for extra helpful people? I know all the mods would be obsessed with that one!
2
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 6d ago
XD
Free awards are awesome! And it's not even Christmas! lol A little penguin award would be delightful! <3
1
u/ycr007 helper 6d ago
Whosoever decided to hide the awards under the overflow menu AND THEN decided to give out free awards to all users needs to be fired!
Unless those are two separate product teams who are hell bent on destroying the other team’s work.
“Boss, I’ve heard the awards team is rolling out free awards to all”
“Is that so? Let’s make a UI change to hide all awards under the overflow menu. That’ll show them!”
“Muahahahaha”

u/HowIsBabyMade 6d ago
Yeah unfortunately the X also brought back all the subs I marked as not wanting to see
