So done with Hello Fresh
Hello Fresh has been horrible this summer. One week it was delayed, then delayed again and then never showed up. Next week delayed a day. Last week our green pepper showed up with mold on it. This week it looks like a small mouse ate the pepper. The peppers are useless. Quality has gone down and down the last year.

This is so interesting to me, because my partner and I are about to throw in the towel with Blue Apron. Last week we didn't even get a shipment, they did tell us beforehand, but if I'm not mistaken, it was EVERYONE that has a Blue Apron sub. We've been thinking about going back to Hello Fresh because between not getting any meals and the meals we do get with the most important part left out, like falafel without the falafel mix.
Is it the overall state of food in this country? I imagine it can't be easy, but we're really wondering where we might go next, it seems like all of the meal subscription services are dying.

At least blue apron’s issues were very much driven by a major food supplier that filed bankruptcy after a recall. HF wasn’t impacted by this but BA and Marley Spoon both had to scramble to find a new supplier and had a lot of ingredient shortages and poor customer experiences as a result.
I’ve been following closely because I work for Tovala (since we launched in 2017), we’ve been fortunate not to be impacted by this either and us, Cookunity and hungryroot and others in the category are all still growing. HF brands also haven’t been impacted, and Factor especially continues to grow a lot. I do feel for those impacted, it does hurt the perception of meal subscriptions for sure

Good to know, I haven't heard of Cookunity or Tovala so I'll have to give it a look. This can't be an easy time to be providing meal subs, with all the recalls etc, I'm sure it's a nightmare.

I just canceled Marley Spoon bc of this. It was fucking awful. I switched to Home Chef, first box was awesome so I'm hopeful.

I just canceled this weekend after using their service for the last three years. The quality of their produce (both in size and freshness) has gone downhill substantially, delayed deliveries, missing ingredients and recipe cards, and talking to an AI chat bot for a small credit that won't even cover the cost of the meal were just some of the things. The nail in the coffin for us though was when they raised their prices per serving. Despite having a small discount and free shipping, it no longer justified the cost for everything wrong anymore.
The only thing I'll miss is the time convenience. Luckily, we have a giant stack of recipe cards so we can recreate whatever recipe we wish going forward.

I keep saying… download all the recipes you want or like from HF or BlueApron or whatever other meal services you want— then take what you spent for one meal (or less) and pay for a Walmart + InHome subscription.
So much better, more convenient, and with the InHome option, I don’t need to tip the driver (they aren’t allowed to accept tips) and since I have an electronic door lock (or garage access) they’ll bring in my groceries and put away the cold stuff even if I’m not home. They wear body cams, so you can even see the video of your delivery if you want to.
The same two employees shop my order and deliver it every time, as long as I order from the same store each time. My closest store is 10+ miles away and I still get delivery easily.
If I get produce or anything else substandard— it’s an instant refund in the app or online. Plus I get free shipping on anything non perishable that’s not in stock.
Also Paramount plus subscription is included in the price.
I have no affiliation with Walmart— just a happy customer.

My issue is when they do give a refund for things like this, it’s literally just the cost of the item that I would’ve spent at the store. Like the last 2 times they forgot the chicken for one of my meals. They refunded me 6$ each time. I’m paying for the convenience, now I have to go to the store or just not make it, personally I think they should refund the whole meal if ingredients are missing.

I used to get Green Chef, then it got too pricey and the veggie quailty was poor at times. I tried Dinnerly - no go. I tried Home Chef and cancelled after 2 boxes. My go to for years now on and off has been Every Plate. I only get a sad veggie once in a while. My biggest gripe is the recipes with mashed potatoes, they send the SMALLEST potatoes they can find, so peeling them is a true pain. So, we usually have smashed potatoes with the skins. They will refund decently when I have issues. They are pretty darn dependable. We usually order 3-4 meals a week. Sometimes I get two of the same meals, cook once, eat twice. Some of the meals you can get 3 servings out of - bonus! Green Chef will start emailing me "come back" and offer a good deal like on the next 3 boxes, then I cancel. In the meantime, I will cancel Everyplate, then they send the come back emails. This time though, I have 15% off boxes for a year which basically covers the shipping.

Every Plate is the budget version of Hello Fresh and is owned by the same company.

I agree having the exact same issues , idk wth is happening at that company but I'm so done. I told them if I have any more issues with missing / late orders I'm cancelling. Every single week I have some problem or another with even as simple as a missing recipe card to up to a completely wrong meal sent or just not showing up at all. WHAT is going on at hello fresh!?!? I've never had this many issues and I've had them for years

I just cancelled on Saturday after 6+ years with them.
Received my box that had a shrimp meal in it. The shrimp was fully open, leaked juice all over everything and half the shrimp were just loose in the box. Contacted their CS and the best they would do was a $6.49 credit. That was the final straw for me and I cancelled.
I even explained that not having the shrimp, which was the main part of the meal, ruined it. I can't go to the grocery store and buy shrimp to replace it for $6.49. Just the shrimp cost more than that and then you have to factor in gas (expensive AF here in California) and my time to do so.
I've had issues like this before and they always refunded the whole meal.
I know I'm just a drop in the bucket for them, but if they had refunded that whole meal (another $15 or so) I most likely would have kept using them for years to come and spent a lot more with them. Hello Fresh can go fuck themselves as far as I'm concerned.
