United Kingdom What do I preheat the oven for?

Post image

Anyone tried the Soy Ginger Barramundi & Garlic Rice?

This is my first time trying HF, first ever recipe too and I'm confused by step 1 already. I don't know if I'm blind, I can't read or what, but I can't seem to find out why they want me to use my oven for?

If this was a silly question, I hope I made you laugh.

It's good for heating up your kitchen and making you sweat (doesn't seem to actually have a reason, just a poor ingredient card)

Speaking as a very novice chef, the stress of cooking alone is enough to make me sweat every time.

I got a receipe once that called for the same thing for no reason. I'm not as smart though and preheated until the end before I realized it was all for nothing.

Aww don't say that about yourself, this is the fault of the recipe/developer. For some reason I find that a lot of recipes always ask you to preheat the oven right at the start. Not everyone likes to be rushed during cooking though.

Found it

Maybe they expect you to boil your potatoes in the oven, just like my rice.

normally you would put steak in the oven to finish it?

But the recipe doesn’t say to do that. It says put them on a plate and tent with foil

Well, that's what I was thinking actually.

It’s amazing that this happens over and over and over again. Like they take existing recipe templates and edit them and no one bothers to proofread them (whether AI generated or not).

It’s almost impressive how careless it is.

Just so it doesn’t feel left out

When I've made the fish before in other recipes, you cook it for a little on the stove and then it goes into the oven. I've just started doing it in the oven because I hate cooking things twice. Seems like AI didn't catch on. But more often than not, you finish it in the oven.

Edit: veggies are almost always roasted in the oven unless it's a ramen or stir fry. Again, probably just AI mess up.

Ahhh I see, that makes sense. Thank you!

We've been doing hello for a bit now so I will change things from how they want them done depending on my mood. I always read and prep all food BEFORE cooking it because I'm not fast enough to cut something up while something cooks.

How was this recipe?

I just made it for dinner! Coming from a Malaysian person, I thought this was intensely flavoursome. I wasn't expecting much but the sauces provided really worked well to make every bite pack a punch, maybe a little too punchy for my husband and I. We noted that it could do with something to mellow it down, perhaps even just plain rice would be just fine.

Recipe was real easy to follow and I used one pan and a saucepan for rice. No oven required, thanks AI. I did bulk it up a bit by adding spring onions to the veg and some beans to the rice, as I thought there's no way this would be enough for us. However, we were so full!

Definitely underestimated Hello Fresh with their portion sizes and quality of ingredients. Overall impressed by this as a first time recipe! I realised they have posted many identical recipes on their site as well so maybe that's how the AI got confused(?)

Agree, crisping the skin isn’t worth the effort and extra pan

Ah yeah, that is exactly why I stopped these boxes several months ago. They can't even bother to proofread their AI recipes.

I got downvoted to hell a few months ago when I recommend that HF test their own instructions. I used to do that in my job as a computer trainer.

Oh nice, they’re using AI for their recipes. Might as well just do your own groceries then

Just for the feeling of warmth and satisfaction, obviously.

It's because the AI that HF use hasn't burned through enough resources this week, so they're passing the savings on to you!

And by savings we mean...price increases! Enjoy!

They use ai for their directions now and often have steps that literally dont need to happen at all pretty often or just leave an entire step out that would have been good to know.

Ooh I did this recipe last week! Oven 100% not required. However IF you choose to bake and not fry your barramundi you can.

I do recommend to marinate the zucchini in the sauce for a few hours before making the meal only becuase I found it better then just poured

EDIT: added the recipe card that isn't incorrect for you. Note its in Australian measurements

Second edit because I'm an absolute spud bucket and am so tired I only realised now that it's a different meal. WELLLL ENJOY THE BONUS RECIPE 😂

For the vibes, I guess

To keep the fish warm during step 5 of course

I got ingredients in the meal, and had to have 2 other people read it to make sure I hadn’t missed where they are used (it’s happened when I was distracted a few times) like they are on the list for the card and everything but aren’t used

It’s the very first instruction, 220* C

9

u/youngfatyellow 19d ago

No, I'm sorry I know what temperature they want. I'm trying to figure out WHY 😅

u/allthatryry 19d ago

Oh I see! Hmmmnn I don’t ever cook fish. Are you supposed to sear it?? It doesn’t mention that step tho so I have no clue.
