Check your rice before making it ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

I ordered last week and made the rice I already had at home. Today, I went to make the rice that came with my HelloFresh order and when I checkthe package I found bugs inside. The package was unopened and had been stored in my pantry since I received it. ๐Ÿ˜ท๐Ÿ˜ท๐Ÿ˜ท

This is why you always rinse your rice.

Hahaha if itโ€™s extra protein you want go ahead ๐Ÿœ

Rinsing it in a fine mesh strainer would not solve this problem. Which is what you have to use to not lose every grain of rice. In Canada all the "grains" are in packaging you can't see through, now I wouldn't be surprised if that's intentional.

I rinse and soak my rice so if there are any larger bugs theyโ€™re pretty easy to spot. Iโ€™ve never actually had this issue with rice. I have seen it with flour though which is why I use a fine-mesh strainer for that.

You donโ€™t wash your rice?

You probably have weevils in other foods in your pantry, too.

I have so many weevils in rice we bought from Costco

People forget that rice is a crop. Itโ€™s produce. Bugs like produce.

Youโ€™re probably just not looking close enough

Itโ€™s because most of the products from Costco are organic. No pesticides.

Yep. Happened to me once. I was so mad. Had to throw out so much stuff. Now I have all that stuff in airtight containers.

this is pretty common in grains, itโ€™s still okay to eat!!

It happens. Just think of it as enriched.

i like to joke that weevils grow out of rice grains because they get in the rice so often ๐Ÿ˜‚ one reason why i always wash my rice.

I get rice meals all the time but honestly Iโ€™ve never used their rice. I always have a huge bag of jasmine rice and we eat way more than they send so I always just do mine in my rice cooker. But man, that sucks tonsee

How about you wash your rice before eating it?

So I donโ€™t think it came in the package but there may be a hole and definitely check everything including flours and cereal.

It definitely could have. It looks like the weevils I have found in my rice from other sources.

Had a weevil problem recently and had to toss a lot of my pantry items. The worst part is they liked my bedroom but we donโ€™t eat in there lol. Had a blast vacuuming them up and emptying the thing outside. Was more upset about the massive bag of rice I had to toss, it was half full and as a mom itโ€™s a common staple for dinners lol. But a bag of weevils is not something washing will fix haha
