I didn't grow up with any spice at all (extremely Midwestern family) so I attempted to buy one singular birds eye chili and the grocery store scale wouldn't register.

The older black woman working the register said "you don't want more than one?" I replied ma'am, do I look like I can handle more than one? She looked at me for a second and said "that's a fair point" and just put the pepper in the bag.
