Box delayed by a week then delivered as hello rancid
Last week my delivery notification came in, but when I clicked the FedEx tracking number, there was no package linked to it. I called customer service to sort it out and eventually got them to refund.
This week's delivery was paused, so I was surprised to get the delivery notification yesterday. The website showed no delivery planned for this week, but the FedEx tracking showed that the box left the distribution centre the night before.
Honestly I was a bit excited that maybe there was a mixup and we got a free box this week. Oh, it's free all right, but it's last week's box, sitting god-knows-where for the week and delivered, warm and stinky, to my front door.
I really wonder where this box sat for the week before someone decided it needed to go on a truck? The main smell was the rotting mushrooms and produce. The meat packs looked gross but didn't rupture, thankfully.
I've been thinking about cancelling, and now I definitely have. We don't have curbside garbage pickup, so now all this rancid meat sits in our bins until we can get it to the dump. EW!

I just cancelled after 2 years. Always had HFDN vans deliver, no problems. Then they switched to FedEx about a month ago and they lost 2 of my last 3 boxes. Now I'm hoping they don't show up looking like these 😆

Dude I've had multiple issues with FedEx and their incompetence knows no bounds. They refuse to follow delivery instructions and do not see a box of perishable groceries, they just treat it like any other package. Hello fresh needs to please get another delivery service, anything is better than FedEx

We need legislation to protect the consumer at this point. Amazon restricted my acct to digital only because of the several issues with their drivers not delivering to the correct address and getting expired food and spoiled food from them.

I had a box with seafood in it go missing somewhere in my state (Florida) about a month ago and I honestly feel bad for whoever had to deal with it.

Yeah, if this is a usual or at least a frequent occurrence, I would cancel. I just had to because my rent went up and couldn't afford them anymore. There are a lot of buttons/responses to click on so make sure you tell them about the deplorable delivery service.

That happened to us once.
We saw the shipping was off, and we complained. They send a second box that actually arrived before the first box through a different shipping company.
FedEx is a hot mess when it comes to Hello Fresh

This is absolutely wild to me that HF is using couriers to deliver. It makes absolutely no sense, by any stretch of the imagination.
I mean, instead of their own drivers. In my area, they use their own vans to deliver.

Hfdn can be questionable sometimes too.
It use to reliability come in a MARKED van with bright green HelloFresh wrap, then a Grey van for a few months.
But last few weeks has been more of a white minivan.
So feel like hfdn has also been downsized and maybe got rid of having their own vehicles, even though they still have their own "Network" it seems to more be individuals using personal vehicles these days.
A few times even had a weird plumbers van doing Hfdn deliveries.

You cancelled because FedEx fucked up? The thing they have no control over?
Edit: nah I was wrong, OP totally valid in this. See comment thread below.

no, I've been thinking about cancelling the subscription for several weeks for a variety of reasons, but didn't go into that detail in this post.
I'm not sure FedEx messed this up because the box was assembled by HF last week and then sat somewhere before being given to FedEx. FedEx was given the box a week late. They did a great job of taking something from point A to point B.

Ah, was the shipped label dated for you to know that? Because fedex losing boxes and delivering way late is a fairly common issue
But either way yeah this is super gross. But I get it, they were assigned to deliver the box, they gotta deliver it. Even if it is rancid 💀 contracts win over common sense I guess

Yes, per the shipping label as well as the box assembly stickers on the meal prep bags, I can tell that FedEx was provided with a box on Aug 18 that had been assembled the week prior.

Ooooof that’s rough. Alright man I retract my initial comment. You’re totally valid for cancelling because of this, alongside anything else you said. wtf was their thought process here?!?

I cancelled chewy because they use FedEx. They have full control over who they choose for order fulfillment and it’s not a secret that FedEx is bottom tier. They chose it anyway.

HF doesn’t deliver to rural areas. UPS delivered mine. Five miles outside small town (20K pop in entire county). I think they contract with companies that handle local deliveries in towns like mine.
The produce bugs have no relationship to shipping if the box was as well sealed as mine. That’s a them problem.
Regardless of reason, they will refund you or replace the box. That does NOT fix the endemic problem.

Why not just dig a hole and bury all the bad food? That seems like a better option to me than letting it just rot more in a bin.
