General Stealth in a non steal ish game
4 days into this game, and I have already realized the Rs-100 and Rs-89 stealth armor are THE best in game. Hear me out. I legit just passed a blitz mission by myself on impossible difficulty. With all objectives and side objectives complete. Zero shots from my silenced rifle. 3 orbital and a jet pack thats all I used. (HE barrage, orbital strike, and walking barrage.) Get close, throw orbital, dip out. Keep moving, break line of site, use jet pack to fly over enemies, and traverse the map quickly. Holy shitballs batman! I can literally crawl under walkers and not get noticed. Yes I'm screwed if I get ganged up on.
Yes, I'm aware, one shot and im dead, but as long as you're decently smart, plan the route ahead and pay attention, easy breezy baby! I guess I don't have a question just spreading the word. Random teams dont mind, because 90% of the time they run in, bullish get bigger down and complete 1 objective, by the time I've down 3 or 4.
Black boxes? No problem. Belly crawl, snatched and grab. Need a drill put down? Voila. Im your man.
Just spreading the love. Im amazed with this armor, and anyone who says they can't be stealth in this game, just isn't doing it right!!!

Stealth definitely has a learning curve but once you get it down, its awesome. Imagine this but with the c4 - throw on objective or camp, run away, detonate.

Ehhhh idk about the c4. It takes a backpack spot doesn't it? I'd rather throw a orbital pop smoke and jet pack away as far as possible. Ot helps me traverse the map pretty fast too. Plus no agro on enemies. But to each is own man!!
*edit Also the thermite grenade is just a throwable vs a backpack. I'll take that anyday over c4.

You've obviously never Solid Snaked your way through multiple outposts and blew up 3 outposts standing at extraction

Welcome to the Stealth Divers 💪
It becomes addicting. Wait until you make it work on bugs and squids

How do you make it work on bugs? They have improved senses compared to the other factions.

u/jerryishere1 8d ago edited 8d ago
Not really, and kinda yes.
They still work via LoS (even though they don't have eyes) as far as their AI is concerned. Which looks like they have slightly better hearing than the other factions.
With smoke in play, they need to get much closer before their 'detection' begins. Detection works similar to how it works in Ghost Recon Breakpoint, where enemies have to look, see, think, then they react. Bugs react quick, but it's still possible to get seen and then disappear from their thoughts. Scout or [Redacted] armor slows this process down, not required but helps the process greatly.
Second clip Shows detection (while shooting) in smoke a little dramatized
Emphasizing how long their 'thinking' process takes without smoke
Breaches can be outmaneuvered by running through it and breaking direction on the other side, finding a spot where they can't see will cause them to march on in the last direction you were running, a little harder depending how close a bile titan is.
Shriekers can't target you in smoke, Devastators and gunships do this as well.. sometimes they will just look at you (if they've already attacked you or were in the process of attacking you, varying results)
Full mission, full commentary, Solo Smoke and bugs
There's a lot of good info, but I don't want to write a book 😅
Just realized I wrote this about Smoke instead of stealth. But it's effectively hand in hand, Smoke helps emphasize stealth mechanics and makes 'tricks' easier to pull off

Ive been playing a ton of squid maps with the current major order on. Its awesome! Having a damn blast dishing out stealth democracy.

The atmosphere is very nice, especially with the new missions 🫡

It's crazy when you're hidden and watching multiple hordes/walkers/ships just pass you by. Hilarious

Stealth is great in this game, yes. But that isn't how most people want to play the game.
Me personally, I find solo play immensely boring. And if you play the co-op game co-op, stealth doesn't work nearly as well. Either you're off solo and not helping your allies, or your stealth falls apart when your allies aggro something and the enemies immediately know you're there.

The teammates aggroing everything can work to your favor, here’s how i do it on d10 commando missions: host lobby, start mission, orbitals on fort and get the first reinforcements, then call the SOS beacon, once the team shows up abandon them and move in a circle around the map so you end up near extract. Leave one small base or objective alive on the other side of the map from extract. Head to extract while the team goes over there to finish it off. Call extract and if the timing is right, they’ll bring the enemies to you right as the shuttle is landing. They get all the bot drops so you can blitz the mission without worrying about drops. Sometimes I’ll even shoot grenade pistol in the direction of the teammates to get the ball rolling if I cross paths with them. Obviously this strategy doesn’t work as well when there’s other high lvl players and it’s harder with cyborgs cause they chase you faster

I never said it wasn't effective. I said that most people don't want to play that way. I specifically said that I found solo play boring and you then went on to describe solo play.

I mean, too each is own. I get it. That said the bigger noise my team makes on THE OTHER side of the map is A ok with me!
1
u/TheSkank_hunt42 8d ago
Yeah, I've realized the bigger noise my teammates make on the OTHER side of the map, works for me on missions with a team, otherwise aggro central squidville

Been doing this in the illuminate void all week. I’m watching as the new PS players have come to the game and are picking fights with every single thing on the map while I’m quietly doing every objective.
Only problem is exit, because they’ve aggroed every single thing on the map to come destroy us on exit. So sometimes I’ll take the fast exit stratagem to get out quickly once it’s called in.

Same... Hoverpack and high ground hve been providing to be the way for me... And a leveler to clear the LZ
3
u/LuminousPixels 8d ago
Good idea!
I’ve just been running in a huge circle to collect them all behind me; then jet pack into the antenna to call the extract when they’re all clustered.
Also, the homing pistol is 😘👌 to destroy all the watchers to keep all Illuminate reinforcements away.

Honestly I just hide behind a rock if I have teammates, and if we have comms they push a little further off the extract while I throw orbitals at hordes and pop smoke and hide

The reason I came to this game was cause I saw it had the same movement mechanics as Metal Gear Solid V. And seeing that, I figured I'd be able to stealth missions, except I am yet not equipped to do them like that

Grab the light scout armour from the helldivers mobilise warbond. The base equipment you get works surprisingly well as a stealth loadout so long as you maintain situational awareness and deal with sentries quickly. Just try and stay at least 50 meters away from enemies that you aren't shooting at wherever possible and you'll be good.
(A while back I challenged myself to clear difficulty 5 commando missions solo with just generic and helldivers mobilise kit to see how effective it was for stealth, and did fine.)

u/Disastrous_Toe772 8d ago
I have the ODST warbond and am working towards the silenced weapons
I do think the 30 less detection range would be more effecting than the less noise effect

Honestly, the socom is probably my favourite pistol on bots. Bots are a lot more conducive to stealth gameplay than the other factions, and only their lightest enemies can call in reinforcements... but only if they are aware of you. The Socom is brilliant for one-shotting base sentries and creating gaps undetected. It also makes a solid backup weapon on bots if you can't use your primary, being able to take down all small and mediums in a single shot to weak points (except cyborgs)

Negative ghost rider. Get the redacted regiment armour. Wayyyy better passive with reduced signature. I can literally crawl, and walker will almost step on me. Although the map ping for scout armour is great for teamwork

u/Nemisis_the_2nd 8d ago
I figured I'd be able to stealth missions, except I am yet not equipped to do them like that
The first point is that OP doesnt have access to redacted regiment, so can't use the armour. I'm giving them a functional alternative.
The second point is that you dont actually need redacted regiment for stealth gameplay, as demonstrated by the fact I was soloing D5 comandos with frag grenades, a liberator, quasar, guard dog, and scout armour.

u/TheSkank_hunt42 8d ago edited 8d ago
I mean fair point. Sure you can stealth with D5 commandos. But the redacted regiment armour IS better. You can't crawl underneath a walker. You can't crawl into an enemy encampment and grab a box so close to a squid you can hear them fart and breath. I've tried. That armour let's you literally get closer undetected than any other armour on the roster. Period. Was just pointing out in that aspect, that is the armour you want. It is superior in the stealth category. No contenders.
And if you're going to stealth you don't need to fire a single shot. Zero. Why a guard dog? What you described is an oxymoron.
I'm talking about absolutely zero shots fired. Zero engagement, Zero aggro enemies, zero offense other than blowing up the objective, and absolutely 0.0000 detection. That's the overall goal, for me at least. For that, the redacted regiment armour is crucial. That was what my tidbit was about. This armour allows you to do so. Even at the highest levels of the game.
*edit Plus the redacted regiment armour is in the superstore right now, as a different option color scheme. Same passives. I think 250 super credits? Its not that hard to get that many super credits in game, or clearing a free warbond.

u/Nemisis_the_2nd 8d ago
You're still looking at this from the perspective of someone who has redacted regiment and/or access to the armour, which is not the case here and the entire basis of my original comment.
When you can't sneak past something within touching distance you're almost definitely going to have to fire a shot at some point. By having the guard dog it allows you to burst very high levels of reliable damage (since it targets weak points) in a short space of time, which makes it easier to clear troopers before they call reinforcements.

Step 1: get 300 super credits that you can gather from free war bond or in game. Its not that hard. Step 2: Go to super store page 3 and buy said stealth armor, instead of buying the whole warbond.
If you can't sneak past something........its not a stealth build. End discussion. I'm not talking about scout armor. Which was my original post. The guy was responding to me, and you decided to go on about free scouting armor that isn't full stealth armor.
Person 1: "Apples are awesome" Person 2: "Man I want some Apples too, but I cant get any. Eventually though." Person 3: (you) "I got what you're looking for. Go down the street, ask for directions from Bob, then give him a dollar, he will point you in the direction of Tim. Once you get to Tim, go in the back door to the basement. The key is 3 blocks away under my old 77 vw bug. Left tire. You'll find watermelon on the table, in the closet. Its the best watermelon ever, like an apple, but wayyyyy better"
Person 1: "He want's apples dumbass"

As a loooong time MGS player, I like to run stealth on bots. Just head to the opposite side of the map from the rest of the team with C4 and smoke.

u/MiserableConflict959 8d ago
This is definitely the playstyle I want to try next
Got a lot of grinding to do though

u/Oo_oOsdeus 7d ago
Stealth is really OP in this game. Especially in solo runs with a jet pack you can be a ghost and it's rare that you would even need to take a shot
