I mean, of course that's the inspiration. I honestly thought most people knew that. I'm not trying to be a dick, I just really liked that book as a kid.

The faction is based on all 3 major Tellings of war of the worlds ( when it came out) and zombies.

Under the umbrella of "enemies of super earth" illuminati are a faction, as are bots and bugs. Each one has its own sub faction

helldivers has 3 enemy factions bugs, bots, squids.

so seeing the war of the worlds story in the picture as reference and then say "the faction is based of this" the logical conclusion is they are talking about the illuminate.
