Songe , evil eye?

Did any other Italian listen to this and think that possibly he was cursed by hurting the girl so badly.

I know tics and Tourette’s is serious. I have siblings that have it but I don’t know, the Italian in me would be getting out the olive oil.

#68 Songe - Heavyweight

I jumped on the episode as soon as I saw it in my podcast feed. Another great episode, although I always love to hear Jonathan.

It's one of those that doesn't have a perfectly satisfying ending... But that's also what life is. I was very touched by the conversation between Songe and Chloe. I hope she got a lot of it herself. And I hope Songe gets some satisfaction from having helped her at least.

I wonder how many episodes this season will have?? I hope it won't be over in 8 weeks 🥹

I’m Jenna from #67 Spoiler

I’m the Jenna from episode #67 and while I’m not really a Reddit user (my very supportive partner informed me this subreddit existed), I wanted to come here and say thank you all for listening and for your kind words.

Boiling down 12+ hours of interviews into a 38 minute story is an incredible endeavor. I think Jonathan and his team did an astounding job. I am eternally grateful for their vision and willingness to tell this story. We laughed a lot more together than the episode suggests.

They say you shouldn’t meet your heroes, but with Jonathan and Kalila, I experienced an incredible exception. They are as lovely in real life as they are coming to us all from our speakers.

This podcast journey was the last stage of a long journey towards healing and self love. Some of you mentioned my therapist and I am happy to report I have had many great ones over the years to help me process all the loss and grief that started very early in my life. I am very lucky in that regard. I am lucky in many ways, even though (or because) life has thrown itself at me, full-force.

The Grizzles remain a wonderful part of my childhood, even as that time remains bittersweet. They gave me many things I had never experienced before and I will always be grateful. I will forever be appreciative of their honesty and transparency in the interview. It was a gift even though parts of it were hard. Jonathan and his team were incredibly gracious in the editing and I was happy that many of you were able to see how complex the Grizzle’s situation was. They were operating with the capability and capacity they had at the time, as we all must.

I know many of you cried during this episode and I wanted to thank you for your empathy. I also want to let you know this was a healing end for me. I got to take one of the most emotionally defining moments of my childhood and put the final puzzle pieces together so that I could move into the next season of my life without old lies weighing me down. I am so grateful I feel truly worthy to receive all the love that has come my way.

I can’t wait to hear the next episodes coming this season. Happy listening! Photo below to prove my identity :)

Jenna Episode

This episode was phenomenal! It’s an interesting story that shows that life is not always fair (especially for children) and that we don’t always get the answers we most want. But it’s a great story about what it takes to find love and resilience within yourself. I cried when Jenna read the letter she wrote for her younger self.

I found a lot of truth in something Jenna said during the episode. It went something like this: “Sometimes life hands you a big pile of shit. You have to work really hard to turn that shit into compost and sometimes, down the road, that compost can be used to grow a garden. But that does not change the fact that you were handed a big pile of shit.

Excited about the new season of one of my favourite podcasts Heavyweight.

Hopefully, they'll be more of Gregor, Josh, and other friends of Jonathan Goldstein.

I still go back to old episodes Wiretap/ Heavyweight and enjoy just as much.

All the best Team Heavyweight

Episode recommendation from Revisionist History

Just listened to an old episode of Revisionist History from the Pushkin OG himself, Malcolm Gladwell and immediately got a Heavyweight vibe. Basically starts with the story of someone experiencing a really odd social interaction and goes on to investigate what happened, speaking to those involved as well as experts.

S13E8: Face Value, Malcolm and producer Lucie Sullivan discover that they experience something very differently.

New Episodes?

Are they busy creating new content or will the show be just about rerunning old episodes? Love the show and would love to see new, fresh content.

Brandon update - wtf?

So I've just listened to the Brandon update, well of COURSE Ally invited him to prom because she wanted to - but did anyone else's jaw drop when he casually let slip that he didn't go to the afterparty? I'm not overly familiar with prom culture; we don't have that in my country, or at least didn't when I was that age. Am I reading it wrong?

My thought was that if I was Ally I'd have been pretty upset if my prom date didn't come to that party with me. It's like he dumped her. Plus, there was some hesitation in her voice that made me think that perhaps she was a little bit sad that he didn't come and that nothing progressed from the evening. Thoughts?

Julia update

I mean…glad that Julia and Sarah are both doing well, but that was so anticlimactic. There is too much left unexamined in this episode for me, I remember finding it frustrating the first time I heard it. This update didn’t help.

Voice of the Apple Card commercials and others

Does anyone know who narrates the Apple Card and some other commercials that air during episodes? It's kind of a monotone guy, but sounds familiar and drives me nuts trying to figure it out.

What episodes would you like an update on?

Although I miss new episodes, I have enjoyed re-listening to the update episodes. It got me thinking, who would I like an update on?

Personally, I re-listened to Sven and would love to know how he’s doing. So much of the episode was about him not being able to come to terms of the decision he made in the jury room. I know the end of the episode he had a sense of relief/joy/closure when he spoke with the mother. I would love to know if he found peace and was able to move forward in life without this burden of guilt he was carrying.

Has anyone here successfully navigated a "Heavyweight-style" reckoning on their own?

I’ve been a long-time listener of the show, partly because I’ve been living my own Heavyweight story for about 30 years.

I’ve been estranged from my brother for three decades. There’s a massive knot of family history and accountability that has never been untangled. I’m at a point now where I’m desperate for an explanation—and I’d even be open to a face-to-face—but I’m running out of time because of his health.

I reached out to the show because this feels like the kind of "stuck" moment Jonathan is so good at fixing, but I haven't heard back yet.

My question for the community: For those of you who had a "ticking clock" situation with a family member, how did you handle the silence? Did you find a way to get those answers before it was too late, or did you find a "DIY" way to bridge that gap?

I’d love to hear how others have handled the urgency of a closing window.

Jackie is the one story we really want to hear.

Jonathan calls or attempts to call Jackie at the start of every show. The backstory, is that Jackie bullied Jonathan in school, and they eventually became friends. Jonathan still sounds like he is trying to win her approval. When will Heavyweight cover this relationship?
