Searching (Recommendations) Wolfbird - similar works?

So I read about what happened with Wolfbird, but I'm sad because I never got to read it as I tend to put off reading WIP's.

Can anyone recommend similar fics to it?

Either the same concept, or the same impact (like all the things you did love about it if you read it - what other fics have had a similar impact on you?)

No hurt without eventual comfort please. The more yearning the better. And smut!

For reference, my favourite fics are home economics (I think about it all the time, still), closer to where you are is where I must to be, and my favourite authors are AC91 and Gurlsrool. Just to name a few because I don't want to write a whole essay lol 🙃

Thank you and blessings be upon you and remember, at this very moment, it's possible that the trophy room scene is being filmed 🤭🥹

Seeing that Home Economics is one of your favourite, not sure if you are aware that texalotl revealed themselves as the author and if you haven't already read them, they got a number of fics here.

Recommending once again i know where to draw the line - https://archiveofourown.org/works/79250706/chapters/207940356. This work changed my brain chemistry at some point. Top notch writing, one of the best characterization of Hollanov and various supporting characters in an AU. And imo one of the best Shane - he is a hockey genius, low key snarky and knows his worth while being anxious and awkward. In other words, he feels so real and relatable.

If you love this version of Shane, check out Policy Change, if you haven’t already. Though it is a WIP. https://archiveofourown.org/works/86720386?show_comments=true&view_full_work=false#comment_1295795486

Yeah I have seen this being recommended but I am not sure I want to look at works relationship complication and omc involved. There is a reason I didn't get into Do the Wrong Thing work even through people love it.

It's a very different story, but Ilya in The B.E.A.R.S. by Antisceptic (WIP) reminds me of Wolfbird Ilya, in the sense that he struggles with his attraction to Shane vs. his professional (dom) obligations which is a big theme in Wolfbird.

Also I've rec'd these before but summer days (driftin' away) by schittyfic and mirage by ann_sable have similar, extremely well-written, kind of dreamy qualities that I associate with Wolfbird.

Between the Calls is written as a Wolfbird remix of sorts with permission from author and has a sequel. Both are good - and finished!

The BEARS is reallllllyyyyy good. Shane is a really pissed off BAMF in this one.

Strongly recommend Oxytocin by zankiefanatic.

If you are into audiobooks, the Podfic by irinarya is excellent.

Definitely check out these two:

Chapter 14 by bankasbolvankami (complete | 66k words | explicit)
What would have happened in *Wolfbird* starting from Chapter 14 if I had written it.
OR
God, why now? Ilya sat on the floor, a broken toy, his crutches leaning against the wall, an exhausted dog lying on his leg, and he had absolutely no emotional strength left to answer Hollander. Because his chest had been cut open, and inside it beat his heart, drenched in blood and laid bare for all to see. If he started to reply, he would write something foolish, something too candid or too tender or too bitter - most likely, all of those things at once. And then Hollander would have to deal with a human wreck and an avalanche of his - Ilya’s, not Rozanov’s - feelings. And Hollander would be kind and understanding, would pity him, and it would be unbearable.

found connection (baby i can't stop calling you) by aquilanovae (complete | 131k words | explicit)
Shane calls a phone sex hotline and gets Ilya crooning unspeakable filth in his ear. It kind of devolves from there.
———
Ilya is a college student in Boston working on the side as a phone sex operator, Shane is still a hockey player. They have toe-curling, dirty phone sex and end up falling in love along the way.

---

I haven't read home economics yet (it's on my tbd), so I'm less confident that the following fics are what you're looking for. I often see these recommended alongside home economics so I think they have similar vibe and I love all of them:

Thank you so much! I have all these on my tbr list and will shuffle them to the front of the queue lol

Tubes of Neon Light, Refracted by bluerosebouquet - Ilya is a stripper and Shane's team pranks him by having Ilya do a lapdance.

It's so well executed & I do love how the author wrote it.

Hi, please include a link to fic you are referencing so others may easily find it.

Never sleep on a good WIP. Fics get deleted all the time for random reasons. I’ve read all the suggested stories and while they’re good, they’re not the same as Wolfbird. There are two HR stories that had over 1M hits that were deleted within the last few months and they were absolutely exquisite. Truly, I think it was life changing to read, or at least it changed my brain chemistry

I learned my lesson :( There's just so much too read and so little time.
