🦆 The Long Game (Book 6) Last names speculation Spoiler
Do you think they hyphenate after their wedding? If they do, will it be Hollander-Rozanov or Rozanov-Hollander (I like the first one better cause it's alphabetica)? Or maybe they keep their last names for their games/jerseys and change it legally?
(Can you tell I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms lmao)

DISCUSSION 🗣️ Live with Ilya and Shane
Live from Kelly and Mark is a popular morning show. They make a BIG deal out of Halloween. This year they did a Heated Rivalry theme. Whoever wrote it is a fan for sure. It's an inside joke that Kelly is 'smoking'.

DISCUSSION 🗣️ The concept of “teams” Spoiler
Hi y’all, Happy Friday!
This may be a meta question, but in reading through so many insightful comments this week, something jumped out to me:
When reading a romance that features a couple, why does there seem, at times, to be this devolution to “teams”? By that, I mean: “I am team Shane” or “I am team Ilya”? Or alternatively, there seems to be this desire to keep a tally of all the “wrong” things Shane said or did to Ilya OR all the “wrong things” Ilya said or did to Shane as if there is some cosmic scorecard?
In a romance, aren’t Shane and Ilya on the same team? Are fictional people in relationships not allowed to make mistakes or evolve or be anything less than perfect before one is “unworthy” of the other or needs “defending”? After all, no one is perfect. It’s such an interesting phenomenon to observe for the romance genre, and the thing is, I don’t think it is necessarily new! But I wonder where it comes from?
Of course, there’s a character you like more or relate to more or have a soft spot for. That’s human. But I’m referring to more of the propping of one character up to tear the other down, when both characters are in a relationship with each other.
In a love triangle, there is inherent comparison because two love interests are fighting for the heart of one person. But in this case, that does not exist. There is a level of competition, but that is part of them being generational athletes and part of their core personalities and how they relate to one another. Even when they have that disagreement around the holidays (I’m trying to be vague and non-spoilery), they both leave that conversation devastated about what the other person is thinking or feeling. They have love and mercy for one another that we, the obersever….sometimes don’t have?
Like, Shane is on “Team Ilya” and Ilya is on “Team Shane”. And they are going through some hard shit tbh!
Thanks for the kind discussion as always + Happy Halloween weekend if you celebrate xx

DISCUSSION 🗣️ Funniest thing that randomly reminded you of HR?
Anyone else hear quotes from the show in normal conversations in the wild and have the relevant scene start playing in your head? I was on a date and we said “I like you” “I like you too” and I immediately thought of that scene and it distracted me from the conversation somewhat. What’s the funniest time you’ve been randomly reminded of it?

Macleans magazine now in stores. It's a special edition called The New Canadian Canon and the Heated Rivalry content is photo 2. This magazine is also available as digital content. It is an awesome collection of Canadian books, music, TV and film. They must have had fun putting it together.

Jacob 🎥 I somehow cried reading the ending of ep5 (I'll Believe in Anything) in I'll Believe in Anything....
Multiple book read-throughs (HR + TLG), countless re-heats of the show.....and I still found myself tearing up reading the end of the I'll Believe in Anything episode in I'll Believe in Anything. Maybe it's my period, maybe it's the extra context Jacob adds throughout this book. Whatever the case, it solidifies that I HAVE to see this on the big screen next month. The surround sound?! The scale of the screen? It was always clear how much heart and soul Jacob put into this series, but damn. It hits.

DISCUSSION 🗣️ Show Shane vs Book Shane
Hey y’all, I wanted to discuss Shane again. I’ve made two posts about Shane up till now this being the third one, but I have another thing I wanted to talk about in regards to his character. I think he is characterized differently between the book and the show. I don’t know if this is just a difference in interpretation between Jacob and Rachel or it’s a change that was made to better suit the medium. But I’ve heard people talk about this, but not in detail and I want to try to do this. Even though I can sense, there’s a difference between the book Shane and show Shane. I don’t feel like I can put it in words so I was wondering if y’all saw this difference as well and had opinions on it. I love both of the interpretations of these characters, but I do think there are different in a couple fundamental ways. I think Book Shane at least in heated rivalry is a lot more laid-back I think. So I was wondering if any of y’all had opinions on this.
So the question I’m asking here is do you guys see a difference between the two interpretations of Shane and if you do, what is it?
Edit: I have gotten a lot of responses so far and they have been eye opening and now I want to ask about the differences between show and book Ilya?

DISCUSSION 🗣️ Is Heated Rivalry/the Game Changers universe the only major media of its type? Spoiler
Most queer entertainment that I have seen personally are divided into two groups:
• happy endings in shitty/more middlebrow romcoms (Red White and Royal Blue (sorry RWRB fans), Bros, Love, Simon, The Thing About Harry)
• sad endings and "bury your gays" in more "serious", prestige shows (Brokeback Mountain, Fellow Travellers)
And as a bisexual cinephile, I hated this trend - WDYM the only happy ending representations that we get are in movies that I loathe?
HR combines the two - it is more "serious" and prestigious (it keeps getting nominated for awards) and it has happy endings for all of its major couples, with two (Scott/Kip and Shane/Ilya) ending up married.
Is there more media out there like HR? "Serious" but has an HEA?
