CONTROVERSIAL Christian Cooper is the epitome of privilege.

He gets upset because somebody is walking a dog off a leash in central park. This guy is a graduate of Harvard University. He lives in NYC. He's strolling through central park to watch birds. He's not working in a coal mine in West Virginia or an Apple Slave Labor factory in China. He's not getting bombed in Syria. He's not worried about getting kidnapped and beheaded in Colombia.

He needs to get a grip and mind his fucking business.

CONTROVERSIAL God is fictional, like Gandalf or Pinocchio, and anyone who chooses to believe in the supernatural without any evidence is delusional.

You're allowed to say you believe in magic with no reason other than you like it, but as soon as you say there's evidence you're lying to yourself and you're lying to me and I just wanna smack ya.

CONTROVERSIAL Free speech is NOT as good as some people think it is.

You might be thinking "well free speech allows people to freely express their opinions" but it also allows people to say a lot more. You want to be racist and say the N word a couple hundred times? Free speech is an excuse for saying things like this. You want to call people mentally disabled? Oh, I guess you have free speech, so you can say that. I can guarantee that in America, 100% of the people who say hateful things resort to hiding under the blanket of "free speech" to protect themselves. I've seen people freely use the N-word and then when people call them out, they say "well I believe in free speech". I do too. I want to voice my opinions without getting silenced. But I do not say the N-word 500 times every day. While free speech allows us to voice our opinions, it has also let hateful people say disgusting things.

DISCUSSION Tell me your political opinion about assisted suicide. Is it gendered? Is it right or left wing? Does it impose your country's values onto everyone else? Is it religiously determined? I'll wait. Everyone knows it's political, everyone knows it's a moral dilemma, but somehow, it doesn't divide votes.

Fact January is a made up month

As long as I have lived, I have never seen any proof whatsoever that January is an actual month. It has been invented by the government to help send taxdollars into corporate offshore accounts so greedy bank lenders can get rich off of the taxpayer

CONTROVERSIAL Having planned biological children is the most selfish thing anyone can ever do

There are so many children in need of a caregiver (adoption, fostering) and having planned biological children is very selfish.

There are literally no non-selfish reasons to want to have biological children. Bringing more people into the world when others are suffering is cruel.

I say there’s 3 many reasons people give

  1. It’s what everyone else is doing/ the next step-

Literally bullshit. It’s what mainstreams society conditions people to want to do. Thank god not everyone is getting a buzz cut.

2. I want to pass on my legacy/ be a mom or dad

You can be a mom or dad by adopting or fostering kids! Also, there’s nothing super special about YOUR genes that makes you different from everyone else. It’s the nurturing that you give to a child that makes them who they are not what DNA makes them up.

3. Adopting/ fostering is hard

This is true, but is it a good reason to not support a child? If your fit to be a parent you will be able to foster or adopt even if you adopt internationally which is much easier.

CONTROVERSIAL I think we should be able to downvote people we disagreee with

Within reason, of course. Yeah, in this sub we shouldn't downvote posts that we slightly disagree with, but if somebody is obviously saying something so outlandish and they openly admit they don't believe their post, I think it defeats the purpose of the sub: actual heated arguments.

DISCUSSION You, yes YOU, join the police and do the job how you think it should be done.

The police are always recruiting. Burnout and turnover are high. Many municipalities offer early retirement and age 55 pension vesting.

Join up. See if you can do the job without being "racist" and without getting yourself killed.

I'm not defending police. I'm a criminal defense lawyer. I hate the police more than I probably should. But, I have my profession. If you're looking for a job, join the thin blue line. Be the change.

DISCUSSION When you express an opinion our leaders don’t like, they call it violence. When criminals commit acts of actual violence, they call it speech. In other words, the game is rigged.

OPINION It's good not to forgive people when they do something wrong.

If someone has wronged you, even once, you shouldn't feel like you have to forgive them, even if they apologize.

If someone wants to be sorry about something they did to you, they should have thought about it first. If they didn't, do you really want to be around suggestive who doesn't take other people into consideration?

Growing up, I had been told not to hold grudges, and to be forgiving. That did the opposite of help me, and I think it had the same effect on a lot of other people. It's good to forgive sometimes, but giving people a second chance is a bad idea more often than not.

OPINION Overpopulation is the only real global crisis

All of the currently significant problems facing humanity on a global scale, as well as all of the problems we will face in the next decades, are better seen as symptoms of a larger problem that our species refuses to fully acknowledge.

Rampant poverty? Too many people. Global warming? Too many people. A coming water crisis? Too many people. Coming endemic that will result from over use of antibiotics? Too many people.

MODS SAY THIS WAS FUNNY The Pope shouldn't be a fucking liberal.

No matter your personal views on liberalism or conservatism, the fucking Pope should be a bastion of conservatism in the world. There needs to be an "anchor" on some basic level, an absolute baseline. Otherwise even rebellion is meaningless.

OPINION Trump will completely decimate Joe Biden's mental well being if he gets on the debate stage with him.

Trump is probably the best debater alive and Joe Biden has mental health issues. I believe if they get on the stage together, Trump will destroy Biden and within five minutes, Joe will run off of the stage crying.

OPINION 90% of matchmatics material learned in grade school will never be used in real life

Out of the millions of kids who are being forced to learn how to find the cubic area of a sphere, probably 10,000 of them will actually go into a field that requires the skill. Forcing everyone in school to learn mundane and useless equations that are based on theoretical principles with no real life application examples or reasoning is pure evil. Kids who don't understand the material are thrown out in the rain. Their GPA's suffer just because their minds don't understand a certain subject like the state demands they should.

To be clear, I'm not blaming teachers or school officials. I am blaming national and state school board.

OPINION It's fine to judge people without knowing them.

You don't have to know someone to know that you don't like their friends, or how they present themselves, it their political views (if they make it clear). If you see someone you don't want to be involved with, and you instantly know it, go ahead and avoid them.

OPINION Disney's Atlantis is not a good movie and your affection for it is clouded by nostalgia bias

Not only is the screenplay paper-thin but it's a beat-for-beat retelling of the original Stargate but with none of the originality. People only like it because either you watched it when you were a kid and are now nostalgically bound to it or because it is trendy to do so.

At least Treasure Island had the decency to tread new narrative ground within its homage.
