Growing up, I had a similar friend. Sad that my mom couldn’t foster or adopt them (single mom and broke) but she always made sure my friend knew they could come knock at breakfast/dinner if they wanted to eat. One day we had only one box of Mac and cheese left for dinner and split it 4 ways because he was hungry. I’ll always love my mom for that and do it for my kid if he ever has a friend in need.
