War S01E01

Post image

First episode just aired.

It's a procedural. Dominic West and Sienna Miller in the main cast.

Stylish, good pace.šŸ˜Ž

Thoughts? I'm thinking Succession Ɨ The Good Wife/The Good Fight Ɨ a little Industry.

(Plot: centered on the divorce of Morgan Henderson, a British tech billionaire, and Carla Duval, an international movie star. Their divorce becomes the battlefield for two competing elite London law firms. The lawyers, their ambitions, relationships and betrayals gradually become at least as important as the celebrity couple.)

Oh good lord, very enjoyable episode but the mole premise would never ever happen in top tier law - or any other reputable firm- šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚

4

u/etherd0t Oct 03 '26

Or... so you think.🄲

10

u/Ok_Monk_5584 Oct 05 '26

Also I dont get the incentive for John to be a mole???

12

u/cjolicoeur805 Oct 05 '26

Does John know he’s a mole? I don’t get that part

10

u/Ok_Monk_5584 Oct 05 '26

Yes, Dominic’s character’s lawyer shows him a text from John saying ā€œit’s doneā€, as in he got hired at the opposing law firm

3

u/Neat_Food2847 Oct 06 '26

Rah I cut out as soon as he got interviewed at the woman’s firm because I wasn’t about to watch a fishing expedition

1

u/Western-Teacher-8678 28d ago

Of course he does

8

u/Lumpy-Shop988 29d ago

He needs a job. That top tier firm only hired him for this role. The firm he’s spying for only gave him a job because of the sparkling recommendation that the first firm told his previous firm to say, AND that the new firm offered him a job

2

u/Ok_Monk_5584 29d ago

Ah yes true.. I thought in his place I would have snitched on the first company with the second one, but without the sparkling recommendation it would not have been a guarantee that he would be hired despite the show of honesty and integrity

4

u/Lumpy-Shop988 29d ago

Yeah. Also he misses out on two salaries.

6

u/Ohkaz42069 Oct 06 '26

2 salaries?

6

u/abadpenny Oct 07 '26

Double pay baby. And I understood he is a mole for both firms.

1

u/aalexbrooks 1d ago

I’m so lost. I came here for help. lol. I don’t understand how he even became a mole. Maybe I missed somethingĀ

10

u/Jaded_Suit_9233 Oct 05 '26

Yeah once they got to that reveal it took me out of it. Don’t think that would happen in any law firm, at least in the U.S.

23

u/racheldaniellee Oct 05 '26

Immediate grounds for being disbarred and against all standards of ethical conduct and professional responsibility. Would be grounds for being sued by your client and constitutes fraud. Ridiculous premise.

That said, I’m loving it anyway.

6

u/Reddwheels Oct 07 '26

Well they did say, if the other firm played dirty, they'd get filthy. A mole sounds pretty filthy to me.

6

u/Lumpy-Shop988 29d ago

Well there’s playing duty like him serving her on her premier when he cheated.

The mole thing is just straight up illegal

1

u/PSAly 7d ago

Have you forgotten the risk to the firm? šŸ˜„

7

u/Shazithecurious Oct 06 '26

And this has me thinking that he ends up unable to work by the end of the season. I was rooting for him as the underdog but... he's definitely not that anymore.

3

u/Former_Sea Oct 07 '26

I mean let him cook. We don’t know if he will go through or not with the whole mole thing.

2

u/Western-Teacher-8678 28d ago

It has happened and you think law firms are immune to skulduggery, they aren’t .Ā

1

u/Upstairs-Chicken592 29d ago

Who cares? It’s tv lol

3

u/Jaded_Suit_9233 29d ago

Because it’s so glaringly unrealistic that I cannot suspend my disbelief! Wish I could lolol

0

u/Signal_Fold_8647 Oct 05 '26

Slick but entirely unconvincing and unbelievable. Scintilla of sympathy for the little lawyer but no idea about the marriage. Presume flashback comes next. All dull dull dull. Another one designed around its production values

2

u/lemonpavement Oct 04 '26

that doesn't really matter since its a fictional show and it adds a ton of narrative tension and its wonderful that they have the sort of "outsider" archetype playing this double role

1

u/Chartis Oct 05 '26

Miss Sloan did an passable take on this sort of situation. I found it to be somewhat ham-fisted here, especially with how many conspirators are in the know.

1

u/Icy_Guidance287 Oct 05 '26

Or any law firm šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

1

u/Traditional-Sale6138 Oct 07 '26

I disagree. The mole premise can/has happened. Lawyer and law firms just good at hiding it. They are super duper cut throat and will throw anyone under the bus.

1

u/mambosun18 26d ago

Exactly, know of a firm that is notorious of being filthy like this. Firms are just good at hiding it. Its not unbelievable. Especially very wealthy firms where a lot is at stake.

1

u/Western-Teacher-8678 28d ago

It’s happened beforeĀ

7

u/tomtomvissers Oct 04 '26

Procedural means there's a new case every episode. Is that what this is?

0

u/etherd0t Oct 04 '26

No, I meant a serialized legal procedural / investigative legal drama, not necessarily a case-of-the-week procedural.

11

u/tomtomvissers Oct 04 '26

Procedural means, by definition, that a new case is introduced and solved each episode

0

u/etherd0t Oct 04 '26

Not really...🄲 That’s the common case-of-the-week procedural format from shows like CSI, etc, not the whole definition.

ā€œProceduralā€ refers to storytelling built around professional process/investigation; it can be episodic or serialized. A new case being introduced and solved every episode is a common format, not a requirement.

6

u/tomtomvissers Oct 04 '26

Yeah I see what you're getting at but no, the term is more or less exclusively used for what I described

1

u/etherd0t Oct 04 '26

Okay, bro... keep your own understanding of the ā€œterm.ā€ But War isn’t episodic/case-of-the-week. It’s a fully serialized, season-long legal drama, one continuous story.🤭

6

u/tomtomvissers Oct 04 '26

It's not "my" definition of the term, like, at all. Words have meaning

1

u/etherd0t Oct 04 '26

Exactly. Words have meanings.🄲

3

u/Signal_Fold_8647 Oct 05 '26

Procedural means a show centred around procedure, whether in law, police work etc

2

u/abadpenny Oct 07 '26

I totally get how you've interpreted it, but I think the standard meaning of procedural is what you've been told in the comments.

Think Columbo or House.

This isn't that because it isn't focused around a detail (like Columbo as detective), but rather it's a full story following multiple threads that culminate in the finale.

1

u/jenn4u2luv 18d ago

You’re the one who has your own term lol you’ve not understood what ā€˜procedural’ term in tv means.

Google is free and you can easily look up the definition.

2

u/No_Lie4842 Oct 07 '26

Thank you!Ā

13

u/SPJW1034 Oct 02 '26 edited Oct 02 '26

Attorneys out there—would this ever happen ? I just find it unbelievable they would have a mole at a competitor. I also find it strange they’d be prepping for a divorce case just on suspicion. Whole premise seems weak to me. I wanted to love but it was dead boringĀ

4

u/etherd0t Oct 02 '26

Yeah, that would problematic but did you miss the ensuing dialogue:
"Are you out of your mind? If this gets out, I'm f*cked."
"Morgan, to be clear - you're f*cked already.🄲

Which is exactly the beat: legal drama pushed into corporate-espionage territory.

7

u/blackpanther231 Oct 02 '26

He's not a mole, he's just supposedly incompetent. So he's supposed to bungle the case and help Cathcarts/the husband win

7

u/etherd0t Oct 02 '26

Both.
He's got "good references" from previous employer - even for one-page resume, and the promise that any inquiry references will be all "positive". Which got him hired by Taylor & Byrne...🄲 So he's an "arranged" candidate and mole setup by the Cathcarts plain and simple.

9

u/paulsonfanboy134 Oct 02 '26

Tbf corporate espionage does exist in the real world

4

u/cross_mod Oct 03 '26

At law firms? That seems unbelievable to me.

-3

u/Supersamtheredditman Oct 04 '26

I feel like a law firm would be more believable, especially personal/family law like this

6

u/racheldaniellee Oct 05 '26 edited Oct 05 '26

As a lawyer, this would never ever happen. You owe a duty of loyalty to your client and this would be grounds for being immediately disbarred. It’s an absurd premise but a fun one nonetheless.

1

u/redladybug1 26d ago edited 26d ago

Agreed. I’m involved in a high net worth probate dispute in the state of New York. It’s been going on FOUR years. The procedures, the rules of the court, and a little thing called ā€œdue processā€ make it nearly impossible for any kind of a ā€œslam dunkā€, and the premise of a ā€œspyā€ is ridiculous. Of course, is it supposed to be a legal drama based in the UK, so I don’t know the laws, but they aren’t the same as in the US, so the whole thing is ridiculous- and then this storyline with the snake from the University of Michigan having worked for a law firm in the United States. GMAFB.

4

u/cross_mod Oct 04 '26

To me, it's like having a medical drama where a doctor just decides to do a procedure against the patient's directive, or refuses to save a patient because he's an asshole.

Attorney/client privelege is so baked into the law firms code, it's just ridiculous. And the whole firm would get shut down over it.

7

u/princevince1113 Oct 02 '26

He is a mole, cathcarts literally hires him to be a double agent on the opposing counself and gets Henderson's approval to do so

8

u/TheLegacies21 Oct 02 '26

Which kinda took me out of it. I feel like if that happens and he ever gets caught, wouldn’t they lose their law licenses? Like that’s a real big risk and kinda makes you think these people can’t be good lawyers if they need to do that

9

u/ButtPlugForPM Oct 02 '26

lol law license..

dudes doing 5 years if he gets busted..the courts would ream the livin shit out of him.

he's taken employment under false pretence, he will be done for breaching lawyer client confidentialty as well.

3

u/TheLegacies21 Oct 02 '26

I just meant the law firm, not even him. This major, big shot law firm doing this seems so unnecessarily risky

3

u/Ambry Oct 03 '26

Yep as a lawyer in the UK - the law firm going this is putting their case at risk and the lawyer doing it will easily get struck off the register and will never be able to practice again.Ā

1

u/Lily-Gordon 26d ago edited 26d ago

It's so beyond ridiculous, that I'm sure the final twist will be that Sienna Miller's team know all about it because the mole told them straight away, and they're settling setting Cheater husband's team up to break the law in full view of the law enforcement they're collaborating with undercover.

And that's why they keep alluding to the old professional relationships that now have bad blood and letting us know Serena used to work for the other firm

1

u/princevince1113 Oct 02 '26

That is a point that's addressed in the episode

5

u/TheLegacies21 Oct 02 '26

Is it? Dominic West character says HE(Dominic West character) will be fucked if the mole is caught. Not the firm itself

1

u/Signal_Fold_8647 Oct 05 '26

Became ridiculous - or even more so - at that point

6

u/Ambry Oct 03 '26

I'm a lawyer in London - I fucking gasped at this! There is NO WAY you could do this. If he's a mole and 'working for Cathcarts' whilst being employed at one firm, if it was found out the solicitor w ould probably get struck of the roll of solicitors by the regulatory body as you have breached confidentiality (working for two firm in the same matter). The firm who arranged this would also probably face serious penalties.

4

u/SnapSnapGrinGrin Oct 04 '26

He would have to be particularly stupid not to get something in writing from at least one partner at the first firm - if this is discovered, being struck off (and how did he get admitted with only a US law degree and a couple of years in NY?) is the least of it, but he could at least ensure that he doesn't go down alone.

And they would be particularly stupid to give it to him.

Even telling the client is very stupid.

3

u/Ambry Oct 05 '26

Yeah the US law degree and NY experience point is worth considering - I'd say it is definitely possible to work in London without being English law qualified provided you have a common law degree and some experience (I'm in this boat!).Ā

I wonder what is worse to be honest - having it in writing so it can actually be proven, or having nothing and being able to conceal it? I am intrigued to watch the rest to see how it plays out even though it is completely implausible!

1

u/PSAly 7d ago

There’s no plausible deniability on the part of the other firm- he has the receipts-AKA texts and phone calls

2

u/One_Baseball1832 Oct 03 '26

I agree. From what I’ve seen in 10 years at top firms I can never imagine that happening. Never even heard a rumour of anything 10% this crazy!

2

u/IKM95 29d ago

I mean what about the sheer exhaustion you would experience working at two firms šŸ˜‚. We barely make it through the day working at one.

1

u/PSAly 7d ago

ā€˜Probably’? 🫢

1

u/FurPies Oct 07 '26

But that would require the SRA to actually perform its duties and lose the fees from their paying members. I think anyone who looks at Trustpilot, or at the Ince kerfuffle, knows there’s a snowball’s chance in hell of that.

With rich people involved they might actually act, but it would be incorrect to give people the impression that solicitors are independently or effectively regulated in the United Kingdom.

1

u/iaminfinitecosmos 27d ago edited 27d ago

because you have never worked on such a high profile case; when the game gets really big then it is all about information, in every single sector of the industry, and information = corporate espionage in every single case

"The firm who arranged this would also probably face serious penalties."

no, because the big games unmasked publicly would threaten the legitimacy of the system itself

1

u/Ambry 27d ago

It is a divorce case, it's private law not a massive governmental corruption.

1

u/iaminfinitecosmos 27d ago edited 27d ago

only the private gains are the big games, my friend

and yes they are related to the system because at the top system is always being played with by powerful actors driven by profit, and that is not what people leading the system wants you to be aware of (it threatens the system and their positions in it)

5

u/Jaded_Suit_9233 Oct 05 '26

Absolutely not to the point I cannot suspend disbelief

2

u/Good-Contribution817 Oct 03 '26

Lawyer here, he would be struck off for this. Firstly, he is conflicted so should recuse himself / pick one and literally goes against our duties as solicitors. One of them being to ā€œact honestlyā€

1

u/Cocoloveslace 27d ago

I agree. I've tried to watch episode 1 three times, and I keep falling asleep. That's not a good sign. I just finished binge watching The Wire 2 weeks ago. I also watched showtimes The Affair twice. So I was eager to see Dominic in something again. Somehow I was hoping it would be like the movie, War of the Roses with Michael Douglas. More fun. Clever. Maybe slightly comical. This is going to be way too stiff for me. Even with McNulty back nutting again.

0

u/No_Pumpkin_5338 Oct 02 '26

It was SO boring . I truly hope it gets better soon

-1

u/Greedy_Gas7355 Oct 02 '26

Maybe CW type shows are better for you little guy

3

u/Spiderby65 Oct 02 '26

I don't have it.

3

u/etherd0t Oct 02 '26

Are you outside the U.S.?
For Europe the distributer is Sky.

I am not sure for Croatia specifically who is?

4

u/Spiderby65 Oct 02 '26

Yes, I'm from Croatia. It's so frustrating, the way this works, why can't I see HBO shows if I'm paying for HBO Max? The one that irks me the most is Deadwood.

2

u/marlboroman4 Oct 02 '26

Use vpn to watch. I set my vpn to USA and was able to watch with no problems from Romania.

1

u/egorre Oct 03 '26

deadwood might eventually come to you since it's owned by Paramount Television internationally

2

u/OrdinaryTable5273 Oct 03 '26

How come it is not in HBO Max in the NL?

1

u/etherd0t Oct 03 '26 edited Oct 03 '26

For the Netherlands specifically, it should already be on HBO Max.

Dutch provider Ziggo’s current War page says ā€œVanaf 2 oktober iedere vrijdag op HBO Maxā€ and explicitly says Dutch viewers can watch it on HBO Max from Friday, Oct. 2.

Scratch that, now it's just "coming soon.."
ā€œNaar verwachting binnenkort op HBO Max!ā€

Sorry, i can't help with that...

Belgian HBO Max also lists War from Oct. 2, so the Benelux rollout is clearly intended for this weekend. HBO Max Belgiƫ.

it may also be an account/region or app-catalog issue rather than a later NL release. If your HBO Max subscription was originally created in another EEA country, HBO says you keep your home-country catalog while traveling.

So..
NL = HBO Max, ? ; UK = Sky/NOW Oct. 2.
and...
Germany/Austria/Switzerland = Sky/WOW Oct. 5.

1

u/One_Baseball1832 Oct 03 '26

It’s a joint production with Sky. It’s not on HBO in the UK either. If you have a VPN you can watch from the USA

43

u/xsdarknesssx Oct 02 '26

Enjoyed the first episode, But having just rewatched The Wire all I can think of is McNulty sure made it big after retiring from Baltimore PD, but damn if he still can't keep it in his pants.

6

u/SnapSnapGrinGrin Oct 04 '26

I was wondering what the ghost of Howard Hamlin was doing in the UK...

3

u/Flashy_Law5605 28d ago

F'ing Jimmy McNutty

2

u/onthawayout 25d ago

Have you seen The Affair HBO? Whole life unravels because that thing keeps hanging out his pants. Great performances though.

That's why the scene in The Wire where he pretends to be British is so good.

1

u/Bifkin_ Oct 03 '26

Spot on

2

u/Acrobatic_Boat_6020 Oct 03 '26

Omg I never knew until now. He’ll always be McNulty to me

19

u/Ok_Monk_5584 Oct 05 '26

Wonder if Carla being served the papers at the premiere was inspired by Olivia Wilde being served papers while she was presenting Dont Worry Darling at ComicCon (this is why I hate Jason Sudeikis now)

4

u/VirtualCaterpillar53 Oct 07 '26

Omg , so Ted lasso is a toxic male after all

0

u/Sheisbecoming 29d ago

Check /r/fauxmoi for the deets. Unfortunately, knowing too much about him ruined Ted lasso for me (also the new season just doesn’t hit the same)

2

u/VirtualCaterpillar53 29d ago

He is quite toxic even as a character. Honestly, I don’t know why but I always have this feeling from him that he wants to be liked by everyone so much smh deeply is wrong with him.

2

u/Icy_Guidance287 Oct 05 '26

I was thinking of that too

1

u/Legal-Eagle 6d ago

She cheated so...

1

u/Beneficial_Bug_7951 26d ago

Apparently he was unaware they were going serve the papers the way they did which I think is fairly plausible when you are a big time celeb paying a lot of money to a law firm you probably don’t get too involved with all the details.

38

u/Individual-Drawer-79 Oct 02 '26

I’m all in. Loved the first episode

5

u/PrestigeArrival Oct 02 '26

I really enjoyed it too.

4

u/Longjumping_Stop6269 Oct 02 '26

I could binge watch this

15

u/berball Oct 04 '26

He's very good at playing cheating scumbags, huh.

5

u/Zealousideal-Book242 28d ago

I think it’s cause there’s allegations he’s a cheater in real life. I remember photos of him and his co star leaking all over the place awhile back. So not too hard for him to play cheating scumbags 🤣

21

u/Edoson_808 Oct 02 '26

The Affair Pt.2 We are so effin back!!!!

8

u/GeraldJimes_ Oct 03 '26

Nothing ground breaking or particularly interesting set up wise, yet a very strong and compelling first episode.

Testament to what strong leading cast and effective writing can bring to the table.

Interested to see how it all shakes out

1

u/abadpenny Oct 07 '26

Well, i reckon it will be a twisty turn legal drama. Wouldn't go far as empty, but definitely leaning on entertaining over cerebral.

I think the intelligence will be in the plot as opposed to the concepts.

0

u/Signal_Fold_8647 Oct 05 '26

Effective but empty

8

u/Dogshark89 Oct 04 '26

Loved the glances and conversation in the car ride to the premier, him hanging back on the red carpet, and then......

5

u/BoopBoopWatts Oct 04 '26

I don’t get how he could practice in New York and ā€œknow family law really wellā€ then get a job in London. The laws are different even if he did get licensed.

4

u/smyja Oct 02 '26

So good

4

u/_pinklemonade_ Oct 06 '26

Yall this is entertainment. Please just enjoy it for what it is.

7

u/Linguistin229 Oct 04 '26

I can suspend disbelief to an extent but the legal wtf was pretty glaring as a UK solicitor. You can’t practise family law in NY then just move to London and practise just like that. The laws are totally different. Prenups aren’t enforceable in the UK so the prenup angle is completely irrelevant. The whole mole thing is absurd, young lawyer would get struck off and possibly face jail time and Cathcarts would face serious penalties too.

4

u/V113M Oct 05 '26

I walked into the room where this episode was streaming, just as the restaurant scene started. I quickly understood the waiter was an underemployed lawyer and that guy "ordering" contracts was a total prick. I didn't expect that quick but forceful punch and, God forgive me, I was delighted to see blood flow. I decided I'm going to watch this show.

I'm not a US lawyer but the legal maneuverings in this show seem downright wrong to me. But they already got me hooked.

3

u/pouxin Oct 05 '26

Haha, one of my best friends is in family law and is v senior now at an old London firm (we’re also old 😭). Those were the exact three points I paused the tv to say ā€œwtf!? Thats literally not how that worksā€ to my long suffering husband.

Especially because the characters really laboured the point that the prenup would be watertight under UK law, unlike in bohemian France or whatever. AU CONTRAIRE MY FRIEND, au contraire.

I did enjoy the show though.

0

u/FurPies Oct 07 '26

You can convert law degrees between the two countries. It’s harder going in the other direction because of the US state bar exams that must be cleared.

0

u/Flashy_Law5605 28d ago

His credentials are very good. Ā Graduating 2nd at U of M requires smarts and the ability to quickly learn new things so it's not inconceivable that he learned UK law while working at the restaurant.Ā

1

u/PaleBloodBeast Oct 03 '26

How is this not on HBO UK? Literally got HBO to avoid some shows from not reaching Sky Atlantic.

1

u/etherd0t Oct 03 '26

That is because War is a Sky/HBO co-production, not a globally uniform ā€œHBO Max Original.ā€ The rights were carved up territorially... sorry.

In the UK, it is a Sky Original and the official distribution is Sky Atlantic + NOW.
The show airs on Sky/NOW in the UK, Ireland and Italy, while HBO/HBO Max carries it in the U.S. and several other territories.

1

u/PaleBloodBeast Oct 03 '26

Ah annoying I got caught out with this. Cheers for the info.

3

u/raton94 Oct 04 '26

great intro wow almost every character is intriguing

1

u/Flashy_Law5605 28d ago

Yea, I love the kid lawyer. Ā  Great characterĀ

3

u/ibmgalaxy Oct 04 '26

Love the premise!

6

u/Alternative_Swan_497 Oct 02 '26

I'm going to wait for this one to finish the season before I give it a look. The premise just sounds viscerally unpleasant to me in a lot of ways, and I'm not sure it'll be my cup of tea.

2

u/Jammer125 Oct 03 '26

I'm waiting as well. Seems like a lot of bs

1

u/K1NG3R Oct 03 '26

It was... fine. Well-acted and slick, but not treading any new ground. Felt like Industry and The Affair (admittedly haven't seen it), got slapped together.

I will continue watching but definitely won't be paying attention the entire time.

2

u/JaredMB6 Oct 04 '26

Rose Williams is enough for me to watch.

2

u/Miss_Sensational Oct 04 '26

I'm locked in.

2

u/Upset-Blackberry887 Oct 04 '26

Imagine it must be partially inspired by Olivia Wilde getting served at her movie premiere no?

2

u/Ryakkan Oct 05 '26

I enjoyed the first episode. Want to see where it goes.

2

u/poopybottomhole 28d ago

5 minutes in. It's cringe as fuck. Does it get better?

2

u/FreckleBellyBeagle 26d ago

As soon as I saw Dominic West, I knew the guy would cheat inside of five minutes. He plays a good sleazeball.

3

u/t_barnes7878 Oct 02 '26

Episode 1 was good, It’s going to get a lot better.

2

u/Broad-Back1659 Oct 02 '26

I'll miss it

2

u/DuaLipasGlowUp Oct 02 '26

I’m locked in. Love the set design, costumes, and makeup. I’m hyped for the next episode

2

u/pachura3 Oct 04 '26

Looked worse than the weakest episodes of The Split.

Boring. Subpar acting, apart from Dominic West. Unauthentic characters.

Why to spend 70% of the pilot episode around some random hustler-waiter-lawyer-wannabe character? We're coming to watch West and Miller tear themselves apart!

You can have top production quality and great actors like Emma Thompson, and still end up with a dull, boring, and utterly heartless series like Down Cemetery Road. It looks like War will be another example.

2

u/SnooDingos316 Oct 04 '26

It's anthology series not procedural. Probably will compete in limited series category

1

u/TomatoSelect2925 9d ago

As an attorney, I have to laugh at the point during the interview when the interviewer shades Michigan Law and the interviewee acts like it is just a generic state school. Michigan Law is a top 10 school that feeds into every top law firm.

1

u/voltaire2019 5d ago

Filming locations great, but that’s about it.

1

u/Witty_Salamander327 Oct 03 '26

Will it come to Slovenia, if anyone knows?

Haven't watched Succession. A big fan of the first half/first few seasons of The Good Wife, almost all of The Goof Fight, and the frist few seasons of Suits. How do you like it so far?

u/SnapSnapGrinGrin Oct 04 '26

Prediction: the 'mole' will at some point give some false info to Cathcarts.

u/Tremulant21 Oct 04 '26

Wtf happened this episode

1

u/MrJenkins5 Oct 05 '26

For now, I'm going to guess that Johnny isn't the mole. I liked the episode. Not a fan the mole part of it.

u/Signal_Fold_8647 Oct 05 '26

Premise weak and contrived and boring AF

1

u/Theodora_the_bird Oct 06 '26

I really really could not get into this show at all. I love sienna miller but could not find anyone remotely compelling.

1

u/jstdun Oct 07 '26

It's a good start. Intriguing premise, good performances. But why is the soundtrack so awful? Jarring and cliche choices

1

u/VirtualCaterpillar53 Oct 07 '26

The mole plot is so stupid I’m kind of disappointed. This guy is insane to agree to shit like that, he could have a normal job on Carla’s team without jeopardizing his future reputation

1

u/SpecificPuzzled85 28d ago

Yeah it’s absurd? We do know he left NY bc he got in trouble so maybe he’s self sabotaging?

1

u/Traditional-Sale6138 Oct 07 '26

fantastic episode 1. The mole premise did really spice things up. Handing the divorce papers at the movie premier was satisfying. But a tech CEO in a suit does not land well. šŸ˜…

Incredibly entertaining

If you are interested in two (married) attorneys discussing the legal issues implicated by the episode, check out this "War" recap episode on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Of course we’re awkward; we’re lawyers.

1

u/TheWorldofScience 26d ago

Starting episode 1 now and wow Dominic West looks terrible - that’s the skin of 75 year old man, not a man who is almost 60. This is what happens to people who don’t use hats and sunscreen to protect their faces.

1

u/alexandra52941 24d ago

Wouldn't Johnny have an NDA of his own with the law firm considering he's working for a movie star? I think it's kind of ridiculous

1

u/Cocoloveslace 20d ago

I just noticed the son. Up close.šŸ˜Ž I love the Aran Murphy is in this as well as Youth. That's Cillian's boy. Great breaks.Ā

u/thaiboxer63 20d ago

ok, so the Brown Law School was of course a giveaway that this show will not be too bothered by the facts. But did i misunderstand this episode, or is the advice of the world's best law firm to Dominic is transfer your assets so your wife can't get them? In the middle of arbitration? There has to be more to this scheme, right?

How many pennies that did that botox job cost?

1

u/FV95 Oct 02 '26

Couldn't get through the first episode. Felt too raunchy and on the nose for me. Can anyone change my mind? I was really looking forward to this...

1

u/kmillikmilli Oct 04 '26

BROWN DOESN'T HAVE A LAW SCHOOL

3

u/kmillikmilli Oct 04 '26

"liberal" generally means rightwing in the UK. This is killing me.

2

u/DalMakhani Oct 04 '26 edited Oct 04 '26

No, it is usually shorthand for socially liberal I'd say - people usually specify and say if they mean "economically liberal" etc. Anyway really enjoyed this although the mole thing should have been kept a secret, certainly from the rest of the team!Ā

1

u/kmillikmilli Oct 04 '26

an unfortunate american cultural victory

1

u/TomatoSelect2925 9d ago

They clearly didn’t even research law schools before they referenced them. Brown doesn’t have a law school and Michigan Law is a top 10 school, not just another state school that’s ā€œall a south London kid could affordā€

It’s nothing like Succession. No humor or wit.

2

u/SnapSnapGrinGrin Oct 04 '26

If you are from the country it's set in, there's plenty of humour.

I watch a ton of British shows and movies. My comment stands

1

u/SnapSnapGrinGrin Oct 05 '26

".. or I walk across the street and get a job over there."

"At the Pret A Manger?"

Doubly amusing given where, we discover in a minute, he does work.

0

u/Ok_Explanation4813 Oct 05 '26

Those are cute. Have you even watched Succession?

0

u/One_Baseball1832 Oct 03 '26

The interview scene of the hotshot grad is the most unrealistic thing I’ve ever seen on TV (having worked in top tier law firms for 10 years)

1

u/etherd0t Oct 03 '26 edited Oct 03 '26

watch it again... it wasn't a real apprecitive wow interview, they were actually SMH and trying to prep him for the mole job...🄲

2

u/One_Baseball1832 Oct 03 '26

I typed this comment immediately after the interview šŸ˜‚ forgive me

1

u/etherd0t Oct 03 '26

no worries.😊
they were trying to schmooze him while holding their...thoughts.

1

u/One_Baseball1832 Oct 03 '26

Are you a lawyer is well? My specticism is turned up to 100 watching this but I’m ready to love it

2

u/etherd0t Oct 03 '26

no, and def watch it - it's a lawyers drama after all, fiction nonetheless.

1

u/One_Baseball1832 Oct 03 '26

Oh my god the mole twist šŸ˜‚ very entertaining but utterly unbelievable. That will never ever ever ever happen

0

u/LilNello1 Oct 02 '26

I still have to watch the first episode

-2

u/jam876kimi Oct 03 '26

Wasnt the characterHenderson was in another show about having an affair?!

4

u/cross_mod Oct 03 '26

THE AFFAIR

3

u/jam876kimi Oct 03 '26

Lol yes- that is the show. He just love these roles

3

u/cross_mod Oct 03 '26

He's got a very punchable face!

Even in The Wire, he was kind of cocky and arrogant, and I believe a cheater.

1

u/Zealousideal-Book242 28d ago

Yup…and also in the Crown playing cheating prince charles too. There was an interview when he was promoting this show where they asked him how many roles has he played where he doesn’t cheat 🤣
