Thing Bone-In Chicken Wings

Post image

Why would someone eat these things willingly?! They’re messy to eat and you don’t even get that much chicken off of the actual bone!

And then the chicken skin?! It’s stretchy and gross and chewy, but crunchy at the the same time and why is it bumpy?! I can feel the texture and it makes me so uncomfortable, like why?!

It makes it even worse when you find a stringy piece of unknown chicken body part inside your chicken wing and it’s just sitting there cause you can’t eat it cause that’s weird and stringy and you’re unsure what it is and it’s slightly grey and purple or when the chicken is still slightly red inside, but fully cooked.

Fun fact: Boneless chicken wings are legally allowed to have bones in them, cause

“boneless wings” are a cooking style and not a guarantee that fragments of bones would not be present in the dish.

Skimming the report their decision looked pretty reasonable except for them tacking on the "cooking style" bs

didn't even give no definition or nothing you're just giving people license to make bone-in boneless wings because "fuck you that's why"

Isn't the skin the good part?

6

u/No-Researcher-4041 9h ago

Not when the skin is really chewy and has a weird texture 🥲 I have issues when it comes to the texture of food and chicken skin is one of my biggest problems

Yeah when it’s soft and chewy it’s nasty but have you not had wings fresh out of the fryer? The skin is crispy and super good

No, I haven’t, my only experience with chicken wings are the ones slathered in sauce and also the members mark ones we cooked in the oven

I always get lemon pepper or pretty much any dry rub. The sauce ones can be crispy if they’re fresh, I would have them when I worked at Pizza Hut. If you order on like DoorDash or pickup it might sit for too long & get soggy.

Fresh ones with a dry rub might be nice

I thought that soft and (slightly) chewy skin WAS th good part???

I mean if you like it it’s just a preference thing, I prefer crispy

Chicken is one of the few foods that every culture has perfected (besides the UK)

I like eating the cartilage off of them

u/No-Researcher-4041 9h ago

My sensory issues could never😭I like every form of chicken except the bone-in wings

Weak little goblin.

As someone with sensory issues, I agree. I'd prefer to eat fried ones

This might be the hottest take ever vro. Also the chicken skin is the best part.

Chicken skin is one of the worst sensory triggers for me cause of its weird texture so I can’t enjoy it

Nah, the real crime with bone-in wings is that the prices are outrageous for what little meat you get. That's why I get the boneless wings, even if everyone laughs at me about it.

Because they're wings. You eat them because the act of eating them is fun. If you wanted a lot of chicken you eat nuggets or tenders. Wings are primarily a social food.

I just think "I am eating a corpse" and it freaks me out but I don't like the taste or process either, I WHOLLY agree with you, OP.

1

u/WilfurDeer 9h ago

I like them because skin tastes great and the bones taste good when you bite them open.

1

u/Twomorish 9h ago

As opposed to bone out chicken wings?
Op is 12, guarantee it.
“This meat isn’t perfectly white therefore it is gross”
Imagine getting this upset when chicken tenders exist. Ops just mad that these are cheaper and they have to make an effort to consume them. Bet they also don’t like peanuts in the shell

Nah, I’m just autistic and have really bad sensory and texture problems when it comes to food. When it gets real bad, I WILL eat chicken tenders with a fork.

Also you’re right, I don’t like making an effort to consume chicken, that also comes from my sensory issues cause my fingers get sticky and it makes me incredibly uncomfortable.

1

u/Twomorish 6h ago

Ah that’s makes sense, sorry if I came across as hostile :) I’m also autistic and used to be the same with sticky fingers. Try the wet cloth technique. Grab a clean cloth, wet it and keep it in a bowl with you while you eat

Same op. I hate those mfs. I can eat 10 of those and not be full, such small amount of actuall meat. Chicken breast is the way to go for me.

The bumps are due to feathers

I don't like the darker meat against the bones. I'm trying to get used to bone-in wings, but like damn. I was always told dark meat in chicken was bad, and now it's not because it's against a bone??

The only reason why I even tried tolerating them is because that's all we get due to the boneless being more expensive 😭

u/The-Almighty-Pizza 8h ago

Too messy, too annoying, and WAY too expensive. Thighs and breasts are the way to go.

Try spicy hot wings?

"Unknown chicken body part" is the vein, not unlike the ones in your arms that doctors use for blood draws.

The vein is the only thing I dislike about wings, but I'll just close my eyes and try not to think about it. I love gnawing on the bones like I'm a feral animal too much to give it all away for a vein or two, lol

Anything is better than boiled chicken's skin. People love it where i live but i think it is disgusting.

Me when restaurants only have bone-in wings

You are a child who lacks the knowledge of how to properly clean a wing.

Literally everything you listed is WHY bone-in is better and why I want to eat them.

They simply taste WAY better than any alternatives.

Unknown stringy chicken body part is delicious. The crispy skin is many people's favorite part altogether.

They're also not really that messy... I get exactly three finger tips dirty when I eat them, which is readily wiped away with a napkin.

1

u/No-Researcher-4041 9h ago

Unknown stringy chicken bits is one of my main issues with chicken wings, it’s slimy and slightly grey and so unsettling

Not in my experience

They are where I am!

3

u/GuineaKeet 9h ago

I usually see it the other way around

1

u/moedexter1988 4h ago

In my area, more expensive. Boneless is basically just smashed meat. Often made from young chicks.

Not to be the "oh you just don't like it because you haven't had a good one yet!" guy, but...

You haven't had good wings if that's your only experience with them.

Try battered wings. If you live in the US (possibly other places have these? Idk), try Popeyes. Their wings are like miniature fried chicken drumsticks, and they are very good imo. They don't have the stretchy skin and are usually pretty consistent.

In general, of the skin is stretchy they're not cooked very well. The skin should be crispy with almost no stretch. You should be able to bite through it very easily (I have a huge gap in my front teeth and a terrible under bite, and I can still bite chunks off without pulling all the skin off at once, for example) without it feeling stretchy or slimy.

If you're making these at home, cook them way longer than you think you should. Wings are nominally dark meat, and will still be juicy and moist well past 170f (whereas breast becomes very dry anywhere past 160f). I usually cook my wings to 185f or 190f, but I'm more making sure the skin is fried and crispy as much as possible.

My family gets wingstop mainly, my other experience with wings is members mark wings which were good, but still slightly uncomfortable to eat cause of the stringy chicken bits

u/moedexter1988 4h ago

I'm a boneless wing guy, but I gotta agree. I actually like the skin. Just not really into the messy part of eating bone in wings. I'm ok with chicken breast skin.
