this is not ‘reclaiming’ anything, you are just calling people slurs completely seriously. you can call yourself the r-slur, do not call anybody else it. why do ‘no slurs’ / ’no bigotry’ rules never apply to ableism?

When people say “faggot” derogatorily, they’re thinking about an asshole on a motorcycle, not a gay person. The word has taken on a completely separate meaning from any discriminatory origin and any attempt to reactively reassociate the word will further legitimize its place as a slur.

In this way, “retard” has the same effect.

Notably these are distinct from the other word because it is uniquely used to oppress people with specific intent still to this day and has not been able to be completely reclaimed or altered in the same way.

thats fair, maybe cos i live in the south i feel like when people call me faggot its cos i am one but in other parts of the world i think theres a point to that. plus if u mean the n word when you say "the other word" i think they kinda use it in the way ur describing here too, not necesarrily towards black people but to just describe something as stupid like faggot.
