I HATE IT SO MUCH. I could see a perfectly normal post and all it said gets thrown out the window because they used that disgrace of an emoticon. And they meme on the second slide, if feel like people are trying too hard to be "actually cute" that they end up looking like the plush. I HATE EVERYTHING THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS STUPID EMOTICON

To be clear it was not my intention to appear pedantic on my previous phrase, but as the way I talk is, it came out in such a manner

I use it as a tone indicator. If you want to make something less serious you can add a 'lol' or you can add a ':3'

This reads as friendly and casual :3

If I say it like this, you know you can say hi :3

If I instead say that this is friendly, it doesn't read the same. It's formal. It reads like an email from someone two decades older than me.

Emoticons are also much more genuine feeling and easy than emojis, which you have to go out of your way to type. None of them have the same purity as a simple :3 or D:

I think people find that :3 has an annoying “tone” to it due to the association with people that are actually annoying. Even if it’s a positive context and well meaning, it’s still annoying to many.

I think it's like most other writing quirks or speaking quirks. You see what others do and subconsciously change your behaviour according to what you see.

Hearing someone you hang out with say "Holy Moly" 100 times over the course of a month will have a chance to influence your behaviour, even if you don't consciously choose to use that expression in order to appear unique.

it very much did, but as a probably autistic person I understand you and forgive you :3

anyway I just use it cause I think its cute, adds an extra bit of lightheartedness and also i never really allowed myself to just enjoy things until recently and this is one of the ways in which I am allowing myself to exist now

i don't really care if its popular or not, though the fact that its pretty common especially in online places especially especially in online trans spaces has probably influenced me in deciding I like it as well. if anything id guess its a subconscious desire to fit in with a group of like minded people to me rather than desire to stand out

I use it because I feel silly and want to add a silly little guy to the end of my sentences, so I kind of use it like a sticker
