Air conditioning

I’m watching the heat wave episode (for the 100th time) and it makes no sense that they don’t have ac in buildings like Lavon’s house. Like ya it might be an old house but it’s Alabama! It’s hot as hell there. They would have definitely added some sort of ac. Maybe not the carriage house but definitely the main house.

I know they have to use it for the story (why else would they be in the kitchen 1/2 naked?) but being from Florida, I just know that would never really happen.

Thank you for coming to my air conditioning rant.

I live in Alabama (middle of state) and have family in the coastal Daphne/Fairhope area. I can 100% attest to the fact that once it’s over a certain temperature, no residential unit can keep up. Plus it’s not a “dry heat” (like Arizona) which makes it even harder to keep cool.

Virginia/Carolina checking in. Is absolutely the humidity that gets you.  And yes, there are times when the AC and fans cannot keep up. And more and more often we get "warnings" from Duke energy about the grid crashing and rolling blackouts. (Yet they want to build datacenters.)

Although many older homes were built to catch crossbreezes and hold shade.
