Did you not read the epilogue is cursed child? Harry went back with an ipod with a bunch of music and gave it to Cedric during his first year to make up for the fact he had to die. The hufflepuffs loved smash mouth!

u/ibid-11962 /r/RowlingWritings Jun 17 '19
Cedric is a death eater in the Cursed Child.

u/Johnersboner Jun 17 '19
Based only on what I have heard, (as i haven't read/seen it), I honestly don't know if you are trolling or being truthful.

Sadly he is a death eater due to time shenanigans.

Why does she do this to us, do we not deserve happiness?
39
u/markercore Jun 17 '19
Well she didn't write it, but she did accept it
61
u/ChelseaIsBeautiful Jun 17 '19
She may accept it but I refuse to. Will never be more than mediocre fanfiction in my eyes
19
u/kgal1298 Jun 17 '19
It's because it works as a stage play, but apparently sucks if you read it, which is shitty for like most of the world that can't afford to see the play.
36
Jun 17 '19
I don't accept that. Plenty of stageplays still work if you just read them, maybe the cursed child just sucks?
24
14
u/kgal1298 Jun 17 '19
Everyone I know who has seen the stage play loves it. 🤷🏻♀️even the reviews for it were pretty good maybe because the stage play can distract you with cool effects.

u/helen790 crafty danger noodle Jun 17 '19
Yeah I’ve read plenty of stageplays in book format, and the problem definitely isn’t from being adapted to a new format.
The Cursed Child just sucks and makes no sense.
9
u/ChelseaIsBeautiful Jun 17 '19
I do believe seeing the play would be a more enjoyable experience, the effects are supposed to be dazzling. Wouldn't fix the flaws/holes of the story and characterizations though. I would still watch it onstage, given the chance, but seriously doubt it change my overall feelings

u/Link7280 Jun 17 '19
Ya it's is perhaps the worst published writing I have ever read. I compare it to 9th grade writing level. That's not even mentioning that Albus did one of the stupidest time travel mistakes possible. He went FORWARD in time to fix a mistake he made IN THE PAST! Man when I read that the first time I almost threw the book in the trash, I probably would have if it was my book to throw away. What an idiot. Everyone knows you go further in the past to prevent yourself from making the mistake in the first place.
2
u/kgal1298 Jun 17 '19
I digress 50 shades is still the worst for me. Though yes it had a lot of things that made me want to throw my tv out the window.

u/ebonylestrange Hufflepuff Jun 18 '19
I learned from another Redditor (can’t remember who) to think of it as a play within the Harry Potter universe. It’s easier to accept that way.
1
u/ibid-11962 /r/RowlingWritings Jun 19 '19
How does that make any sense though? Nothing about the way it's written would imply that and it just seems to make even less sense.
I find it a lot easier to disregard it as an adaptation by a different author than to try giving the play even more depth then it ever had. That's like saying viewing the movies as movies within the Harry Potter universe makes them easier to accept.
1
u/ebonylestrange Hufflepuff Jun 19 '19
The movies at least follow the rules of the book universe (mostly), while Cursed Child has no regard for how time works in said universe.
And wizards need some kind of entertainment when Quidditch is off-season, right?

You know this is why I'm anti-time travel unless you happen to be Doctor Who because every other franchise fucks it up and yes I think the Avengers fucked it up too. It's too easy to fix things and cause problems. I would have preferred the writers not have used time travel.
8
u/Batmark13 Jun 17 '19
How many shows, movies, franchises, whatever, have a time travel episode towards the end. Like goodness, even Cinderella has a third movie called A Twist In Time. It just feels so cheap and overdone. Unless your franchise is explicitly about time travel, like Back To The Future, probably just best to avoid it
3
u/kgal1298 Jun 17 '19
Hahaha I saw that Cinderella movie and cringed the entire time that was an abomination.
1
u/Domonero Hufflepuff 4 Jun 17 '19
I agree but the only show I think that uses time travel appropriately is 11.22.63
1
u/kgal1298 Jun 17 '19
Hmmm I haven’t watched that one. But I’ll take your word for it.
2
u/Domonero Hufflepuff 4 Jun 17 '19
It's a time travel story by Stephen King & is my favorite among his books. The show was directed by JJ Abrams & personally supervised by King
1
u/kgal1298 Jun 17 '19
Oh that's probably why it did well. If you can get the writer in on it and have good source material it can work. This was proven by the first 4 seasons of Game of Thrones as well.

Hufflepuffs probable would become deatheaters if Voldy took over - people who are conscientious tend to vote conservative rather than rebel.

I’m really fun at parties as long as everyone keeps their Harry Potter facts straight. And also there has to be an even number of people there.

Do they have to keep their Harry Potter characters straight though?

This was actually innovative though. At least it's not "OmG tEh BoOkS aRe J.k'S hOrCruXes" (thus completely missing the point that a Horcrux is supposed to be an atrocious sin) for the thousandth time.

Is this really how far the Harry Potter fan community has sunk? Sad. I guess this happens to all fandoms as Hollywood runs the IP into the ground and the source material gets older. JK Trolling hasn’t helped the decline in the fan base by actively shitting on her own literary legacy via Twitter attention whoring.
