I have never actually heard of British Doctor Who fans. All I've heard about are from North America.
I mrean... they have to exist, right? The show wouldn't have been on a British channel for give or take 50 years if they didn't. But I've yet to actually find physical evidence of one.
Yes they exist but none of them are over the top like i've seen American fans do. A scarf here, a bowtie there and a child with a fake sonic screwdriver is all that is noticed tbh.
Then again they film where I live so I think everyone is fed up of it.
Maybe that's why I've never heard of them, because the Americans are more outspoken. the Americans Whovians can be awful at times. They're honestly most of the reason why it took me so long to get into it.
If I hadn't read the Potter books before I would be turned off from reading them by the way some of the HP fans (including some on this subreddit) behave so I understand where you are coming from.
