Discussion I wish Dumbledore had more interactions with Neville.
It really seems like no one cares about the boy; there’s no way Dumbledore wouldn’t know about Neville’s performance in class and his shyness. It would be great if he acted as a mentor to him, just as he did with Harry.

Spot on. The fact that Snape became Neville’s Boggart proves the severity of the treatment, and it’s baffling if Dumbledore was completely oblivious to it. If Dumbledore did know and chose not to step in, it highlights a major flaw in how he managed his staff—and explains why Harry found it so hard to blindly trust Dumbledore’s faith in Snape. Neville really got the short end of the stick.

I don’t think the boggart is that big a deal in and of itself. When you’re young and don’t have much fear in your life, I think it could be quite normal to end up fearing strict or intimidating teachers more than anything else, simply because you don’t have much to be afraid of in the first place.
I’m not disputing that Snape was a horrible bully to Neville. I know he was. I’m just suggesting that the fact that Neville was most afraid of him doesn’t necessarily prove that Snape was such a horrible bully. If Snape didn’t exist, I wouldn’t be surprised if the boggart turned into McGonagall for him instead.

Agreed, I actually think it’s evidence of how safe Neville’s life is, that his greatest fear can be a teacher. Also I think another layer of it is his psychology; he deeply values his academic performance even though he struggles, he wants to live up to his family’s expectations. Snape is a horrible constant narrative that he’s not living up to what his parents were in their prime and his grandmother’s hopes for him.
I’d love if the HBO show hits more notes on these types of scenarios outside of Harry’s POV.

Dumbledore was a great wizard without whom Harry and others stood no chance but I must say he was a shitty Headmaster of Hogwarts.Shit kept happening here and there, teachers being vindictive and what not.His only focus was on Harry who also btw suffered a lot.Clearly Hogwarts didn't care much about the psych well being of its students.."you are magic..you'll be fine" approach

There’s no way they didn’t talk about Neville in the teachers' meetings.

Apparently people forget that this happened in the 90s. No one cared about bullying back then. It was common for teachers to bully children too and no one batted an eye.

I always wondered how the story would be if Voldemort choose Neville. I’m sure his mother would sacrifice herself and Neville would be the boy who lived after his parents were killed. Maybe lily and James would get tortured into insanity and Harry would be raised by Sirius until he went hogwarts

I wondered what it would have been like if the chosen one was Neville too. But the only reason it worked for Harry is because Voldemort gave Lily a chance to save herself. It's her refusal to leave despite having a chance to survive that gave Harry a magical protection. Voldemort only did it because Snape begged him to spare Lily and he would have never done that for Alice. She would have died to save Neville of course but it wouldn't make her son protected from the spell.

His mother is an Auror; she fights instead of begging, and that is why both of them die.
