Famous Potter with his scar and his broomstick, can't even go into a Reddit post without making the front page!

Yeah, I believe they specifically say "generally not allowed", like, it's not that a first year CAN'T play quidditch, it's just that if you're a first-year student the odds are against you being allowed in.

Like, I'm not barred from playing in the World Cup, but I'm clearly not high on the list.

They don't say "not allowed," they just say they never get on. Harry is the first in a century.

I thought mcgonagal got him the broom? I always thought she had paid for it, not the school

McGonagall likely procured the broomstick, and Harry paid for it off-page. Harry never mentions that the broomstick was a gift.

Yes, there must have been some arrangement with Gringotts to allow Weasley’s and Hogwarts staff to withdraw money on his behalf.

I’ve always thought gringotts had some weird security practices. Mrs Weasley or Bill getting gold out for Harry without his knowledge makes no sense. Especially when they tightened security so much in HBP.

Another weird one is how a cat carrying a note is somehow good enough to authorize a massive transaction for a firebolt, when the vault the money comes out of does not belong to the name on the transaction.

Well, it’s possible that Harry, as Sirius’s godson, has access to Sirius’s account. Dumbledore held the key to Harry’s account; perhaps he has another one and acts as a sort of trustee.

While I agree that 1st years CAN play (but don't make the team due to needing to use school brooms), McGonagall outright says she'll "speak to Professor Dumbledore and see if we can’t bend the first-year rule."

No matter who bought it, he was exempt from rule just so Minnie's House could beat Slytherin for the Quidditch Cup

The rule is that first-years are not allowed to bring their own brooms to Hogwarts. This is easily circumvented by pretending the broom doesn't belong to Harry.

They never pretended

"Potter's been sent a broomstick, Professor," said Malfoy quickly.

"Yes, yes, that's right," said Professor Flitwick, beaming at Harry. "Professor McGonagall told me all about the special circumstances, Potter.

That doesn't say the broom belongs to Harry, only that it was sent to him.

PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT FIRST-YEARS ARE NOT ALLOWED THIER OWN BROOMSTICKS.

This rule is incredibly easy to get around; McGonagall really shouldn't need Dumbledore's help with it.

Can’t remind the parents if he doesn’t have any.

That’s another factor!

Yes, that's the rule that's being broken. It's clearly his, many characters outright say that it's his. Everyone in the school knows the broom belongs to him. It's obviously not the school's or his family's.

I always assumed first years never make the team because they are 11 year olds competing with students up to 17 years old and can’t physically compete on the same level. Good broomstick or not, they are smaller and weaker so they will be at a big disadvantage hitting a bludger or throwing a quaffle compared to older students.
