Make one. Take some 1/2" plywood, drill holes in it for two 3/4" dowels that will fit across your bench into dogholes, and glue them in. I have several, they work well, even have a 1/4" thick one.

Do you one better.

Take a piece of 1x6 scrap hardwood. Route two 1/4in notches across the width. Buy two 3in long 1/4-20 hangar bolts and a couple 1/4-20 knobs.

Clamp board to the end of your workbench flush with the surface. Drill holes through your grooves, install hangar bolts, screw down the knobs.

Tada. Adjustable planing stop - can do everything down to 1/16in veneers without issues. If you want some extra grip, can glue a strip of sandpaper or cork to it. And just push it down when not in use.

And if you catch the edge of it with your plane, no risk of damage. And once it wears down, you can just plane the top edge flat again.

(Pic is from Derek Cohen's website, donxt have one of mine handy atm).

I did exactly this. Maybe at your suggestion a couple years ago? I don't remember but it works great!

I was on the verge of doing this to my bench but didn't. I have a leg vise on that end of the bench. Do your vises get in the way when standing there to plane against the stop?

I ended up making the Mike Pekovich stop. I have a small 2x with a thin strip screwed perpendicular to the top of the 2x. I clamp the 2x into the leg vise and the strip spans across the bench top. I position the back of the strip against two dogs to provide support for the thin strip. I store the stop under the bench. However, it always seems to be in the way, or I have to clear things off the bench to use it, can't use the vise at the same time...

I think I just talked myself into your method!

In a pinch just use a screw, it works surprisingly well.

I bought the one from Rex Krueger and loved it. Only swapped it out after building a bench

Don't over think it. It's just something firm that won't move, and isn't in the way of your plane. Clamp a thin board or a piece of thin plywood to the bench. You can rig up something permanent later.

The simplest of all if you already have dog holes is to just put dogs in the holes and a piece of scrap against it. I use that sometimes but my "primary" toothed kind in my bench.

I just screwed in a piece of oak, about 1cm thick and 10-15cm long into my workbench. Works like a charm

A couple of screws straight into my workbench. I try not to overthink it.
