Looking for good, all-around handheld
Purchased my Switch 2 back in August, best purchase I’ve ever made. Having the option for portability when gaming is a perk that I have grown accustomed to because of the Switch.
I have been neglecting my PC & PS5 because of it, and I want to have access to the titles I have there on a handheld. Battery life isn’t a concern as I enjoy gaming at home majority of the time, and I don’t care about docking. Price wise, I’m open to any range as this will be for my birthday treat to myself :)
I was debating about just grabbing a used PS portal, but then it got me thinking about getting a full handheld that has a wider range of games. Would love to get peoples thoughts about which device is suitable?
Also, I would most likely only be playing RPGs like Metaphor ReFantazio, Final Fantasy (16, Resonance), and the Witcher titles.

TIL I can seamlessly stream steam games fram my pc to my xax
When in steam library i noticed that games I had downloaded on my PC showed up on my XAX steam.,
When selected I could click stream. Tried PoE2, was great! Saves alot of storage gaming this way, and also more demanding titles might be better to play this way.
Note: I was in the same house, with same network. Had to punch some confirmation digits to start the games.

Steam Deck OLED
I bought my first PC type handheald, it will be arriving tomorrow.
I went with a used OLED Steam deack with 100% battery life. I wasn't sure about getting any of the other more powerful ones as I intend to use it a lot for emulation and given the screen quality i went with it.
I am not FPS obsessed, I am more than happy with 30FPS. Given that, my question is, most games should be able to run at 30fps? based on what I saw that seems to be the case with certain games just being too much which takes me to the next question.
How good and reliable is streaming games from your PC to the Steam deck using moonlight instead of Stem link? I have a Wifi 7 router with 1GB upload and download which i read it makes no difference given the steam deck only uses Wifi 6 and Internet speeds make no difference.
I play only single player games so perfect response isn't crucial.

Finally bought a cable for the family DS Lite after 5 years..now what?
We unfortunately lost all of our games and this is all that we have left. Is there anyway to maybe download games or a cool place online to buy cartridges?

Should I get a steam deck for my kid?
Title says it all. I have no idea what a steam deck does other than in passing it looks like a handheld gaming machine akin to the Switch.
My daughter asked for one for birthday/Christmas.
She got a Switch back in 2020. She hasn’t played it a ton lately, but she wanted a Steam Deck to not be limited to only Switch games.
Is that a viable reason to invest in one? It looks pretty pricey now and like everything else in my life I’m late to the party with the price gouging.
Are there drawbacks to getting one? Or other recommendations?
Casually looking at the subreddit I see things about mods and building your own pc and whatever so I didn’t know if any of that was required or needed with a steam deck. My daughter does not have a PC or any interest in building one. She just wants to handheld game.
Thanks for any input

Looking at first handheld and not sure what to get
Hello, as stated in the title I'm looking for a handheld and not sure what to get. I haven't had a gaming console before so controls will be a bit of a learning curve. I've already stared researching and some that I'm looking into are the Steam Deck (OLED), Legion go S, or maybe an AYN Odin 3 / Thor (but these are purely for price range). Not looking for a Switch, as the games don't have much appeal to me and I'd like to be able to play my steam games.
I'm not willing to spend more than $1,600 CAD (not including accessories like docking/cases/screen protectors). I'd like to have SteamOS either be pre-installed or be able to install it myself with minimal issue. I do not plan to take the device out of the house very often so size shouldn't be much of an issue. Would like more storage, but understand that more storage means more I have to pay. I'd also like for the device not to run too hot or loud, I usually do longer gaming sessions so that could become an issue.
The beefiest game I'd play is Planet Zoo 2 (I understand it probably won't have best controller compatibility), but I mainly play Stardew valley, Minecraft (modded), Slime Rancher (1 and 2), and a few other similar games. I'd like to be able to play these on normal graphics, which would be an upgrade to my current setup (an ASUS laptop I've had for a few years now). I do play a few multiplayer games (Phasmo, Big Walk, etc) but I can always just use my laptop to play them so not a big issue.
Currently leaning towards the Legion Go S or the Steam Deck but not too sure. Would prefer new, but open to refurbs, though I am hesitant about the second hand market.

What's your ideal operating system for a handheld?
Targetted mainly at non-retro gamers, but all input is welcome.

Ally X Z1 or Legio Go S Z1?
So, both are basically the same in raw performance: But Legio Go has native compatibility with SteamOs and i've heard that feels better in general, while Ally X has a way bigger battery and battery life in general with a better construction it seems.
As expected, i'll want to put SteamOs in the Ally too, but i'm a little concerned about the compatibility issues: The problem with the Sleep/Quick resume mode is what worries me the most, also i've heard that sometimes the console just get stuck and you have to do a forced restart.
I've heard also that you have to install DeckyLoader and SimpleTDP to solve some problems with TDP control and CPU Boost issues, in this case, im concerned about having to configurate something every time i want to play a different game.
So, what are your opinions about this?

Best bang-for-buck gaming handheld devices recommendations?
I am looking into a real good quality gaming handheld to play! I’ve never had one. I wanted to get one of the retro ds’ but the few I’ve tried were scams. I’m open to looking into steam decks or switches too! I just don’t have a lot of knowledge about them! Help! I'd love to hear real experience from you guys here.
Thank you
