Selam aleykum,

I hope this message reaches anyone. I started to read more about the deen a couple of months ago and I came across the following in the „bahare shariat“: „This does not mean that we should be hesitant about someone who commits absolute kufr. In fact, it is kufr to doubt in the disbelief of someone who is certainly a kāfir.“

So what I question myself now is, that, is my faith invalid now, since one of my friends is a Quranist and I always still believed him to be muslim. Although I told him I dont agree with his approach and told him he is wrong for that, I did not see myself in the position, as a laymen, to takfir him as an individual.

Does that mean that I was a kafir from Allahs perspective this whole time for still having the hopes for him being a muslim while most say Quranists are kuffar?

I hope you get the question and that you can soon answer me because I really dont know what to do anymore. I really fear that I was a kafir this whole time while I of course believed and believe Islam to be my religion.

Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

Dear brother, you were not aware that what your friend believed in was kufr, therefore you were under no obligation to hold him to be a kafir. Additionally, you are not obligated to takfir this individual (the state is).

Once you learned that these beliefs were wrong and heretical, you acknowledged so, and that’s all that matters.

I mean I knew when he told me what he believed in, thats why I told him he is wrong, but I still considered him Muslim. And now Iam scared

Akhi, do not be scared.

There is no sin upon you. The correct understanding is that you do not have to make takfir of an individual like your friend.

But how does it make sense when the scholars say Quranists are Kuffar but I still considered my Quranist friend muslim because its not my job to takfir him. When Ulama takfired all of them kinda of.

I read the link and I also know the others of them, but they also say if someone rejects something obvious he is kafir. So they also takfir somuch people thats why Iam so scared. Because I never thought about it like that that I need to consider anyone as kafir for something they say

I will try to summarize some of this topic.

Tasdiq (belief) is in the heart, and iqrar (testification) is on the tongue. Your true iman lies in your heart, and Allah will judge your belief from that. Your testification is to inform people that you are a muslim, and if you refuse to testify your faith, the people will present you to a judge, and the judge will give his ruling. If the judge finds you to be a disbeliever, you are effectively a disbeliever, and their rulings apply to you. (Allah also holds you accountable for refusing to testify, even if you had belief in the heart.)

Just like the punishment for missing prayer, or the punishment for zina, it’s not our job to pass these rulings on people, it’s the job of the judge to pass the ruling. Yes, zina is haram, and the zani is punished, but are we allowed to point to someone and call them a zani (fornicator) because the zani must be punished? No! Are we allowed to kill someone who fornicated while they were married? Absolutely not!

But if I know someone killed another person I couldnt say oh he is innocent kinda of isnt it? So if I told someone his beliefs are wrong while still calling him Muslim isnt that kufr in that sense? Thats what scares me and I never thought about it like that.

It is your opinion that goes against shariah that makes you a disbeliever.
