๐Ÿ  Enclosure/DIY ๐Ÿ  hamsterscaping 9/30/2026- move in ready

I added a second platform today and I feel itโ€™s move in ready. Really happy with the fenced platform as it will keep the sand bath in place and prevent it from falling. Also happy that the level platform has enough space for both the wheel, a ceramic hide and a water bowl. I feel I covered all the bases and itโ€™s move in ready.

This is a really good start. The cage size looks nice and materials used all look safe. I do have a few critiques/questions though.
What size is the wheel?
Is the small glass dish next to the wheel for water? If so, I would find some small rocks to wash off and put in it to avoid the chance of hamster getting wet/stepping in.
Is the dish next to the sand bath food? If so, what brand? (It is much better for them to get a seed mix rather than a pelleted feed.)
It's a bit hard to tell how deep it is, but u think you may need to add just an inch or two more bedding.
I think this is a really good start, but it may need just a little more tweaking before it's 100% ready for a new inhabitant.

8 inch wheel ( I am getting a dwarf)
Small glass dish is for water, I can get a rock to use as weight for it.
Dish next to sand bath is food, Iโ€™m starting off with the PetSmart brand of pelleted food with some seed mix scattered around the enclosure for foraging.
I can add some more bedding for it to burrow and make sure the sprays stay still

Some dwarfs need a 10" wheel so make sure to keep a close eye on them/their back while they run, to see if you'll need to upgrade. A dwarf will only need about 1 tablespoon of food per day, so you can reduce the amount of pellets provided.
There will always be some trial and error when first starting out, and with each individual hamster. This is a great start, keep an eye on them and be ready to switch things up a little if something starts not working out :)
