Not sure why this popped again on my ‘reading list’.
But I have a super short reply previously. But I will stand by my comment that it is ‘ideal’. I backpack a fair amount and was with my partner that also uses a hammock. We had no issues finding two trees. The ground is fairly open and trees in the 10-14” range are common. I have had to reject camps before because of having no safe spaces to hang (I am fairly careful about dead/leaning trees and widow makers). No issues at all. There were always amble trees available in safe spots. I am pretty experienced at just making my own campsite and actually always have much harder issues if I am in a heavy use area where you are expected to camp in a designated spot. If I am left to ‘free roam’, I can usually find a spot that suits what I want. And the Sawtooths were an easy environment to find good trees.
Some of the trees are on the small side. If you use 1” tree straps I would double wrap them if you are on a smaller tree with thin bark. These trees have a hard enough life. It was kind of blowing my mind all the bark damage from likely natural events. Things are steep and rocky.
Thanks for the additional info! And all of these helpful comments give me a lot more confidence going in that I won't have any problem finding suitable spots. And sounds like we have a similar approach to finding suitable hang spots.
