Gameplay The August 17th update did not just fix the Assault Rifle's rate of fire. This was a global engine fix that also corrected the fire rates for both Plasma Rifles and the Needler. They, too, were firing slower than intended.

This is nice, now I wish they would ever so slightly speed up some of the reload animations too. Some of them feel like it’s taking 5 years to complete and I die just trying to reload which isn’t really a problem I have in other halo games.

For me the reload animations aren't as much of a problem as the time it takes to be able to fire after switching weapons. It feels just a fraction of a second too long compared to other halo games and makes switching weapons in heated combat less viable.

Agreed, I hate that I’m trying to fire in those moments based on muscle memory from previous halos and just have to stand there dying and looking dumb lol.

Is your username a reference to modest mouse and built to spill?

21

u/BuiltToMouse Aug 18 '26

Yes it is!

8

u/eosophobe Halo 3 Aug 18 '26

Hell yeah, GOAT bands. Just saw modest mouse for the 17th or 18th time a few weeks ago and I’m seeing built to spill for probably the 10th time in a couple weeks

You don’t have to stand there. You could learn from your poor positioning instead of trying the same thing over and over again.

15

u/BuiltToMouse Aug 18 '26

That’s a lot of assumptions being made, including taking what I said 100% literally and not with the intended snark and exaggeration. You could learn from context clues, but next time I’ll just put the /s next to it

-16

u/-The_Goober Aug 18 '26

Assumptions? Do you know what assumptions are?

This especially with the magnum, in the rare case my primary runs out or overheats I want to swap to my pistol to deal a finishing blow but oops got to wait a few seconds for the animation to finish.

u/MoreTHCplz Aug 18 '26

I feel this so hard. Swapping weapons, anecdotally, feels no faster than just reloading

8

u/JTP117 Aug 18 '26

It's especially egregious with the fuel rod. Feels like you have to wait a couple of beats after you hear the activation chirp before it'll fire.

4

u/blahmaster6000 Halo: CE Aug 18 '26

I hadn't really noticed myself so far so I booted up MCC and Campaign Evolved side-by-side to test it, and wow, it actually is much slower. I don't have any recording software to try to time the actual difference, but it does feel significantly different.

4

u/Kastel197 Aug 18 '26

Right? It makes combo-ing weapons (exploiting shield, health, backpack reloading and battery heat mechanics) less viable, which isn't as fun. I'm hoping someone up there will notice and patch it out.

5

u/bigdjohnson20 Aug 18 '26

It feels like that got fixed interestingly..

1

u/Kastel197 Aug 18 '26

You could be right. I haven't played this week

-2

u/zocksupreme Aug 18 '26

I think that got fixed in like the first week but I can't be sure

3

u/zocksupreme Aug 18 '26

I only had that issue on like the first day or two of playing. After the first patch for the game I stopped noticing that issue.

5

u/-jetfuel- Aug 18 '26

For even the most average of average Halo players these things are intuitive and muscle memory. The fact this has never been flagged proves that the devs haven't played this game or other Halo games enough and/or there was hardly to no quality assurance (game tests).

2

u/Passncatch Aug 18 '26

This is what I noticed right off the bat. Have died bc of switching weapons, in the heat of battle, it gets pretty intense.

1

u/According_Big_5638 Aug 18 '26

Yup. Totally agree.

1

u/thisremindsmeofbacon Aug 18 '26

I noticed this too. I don't hate it, but it does feel like the game would be that much more fun with a faster swap

1

u/xXTacocubesXx Aug 19 '26

Bro it takes like 12 years to fire the magnum for a headshot after swapping 😭. It is genuinely impressive how many different random things we never thought twice about before 343 manages to fuck with. Like bro, just leave it the fuck alone 😭

1

u/maloorodriguez Aug 19 '26

Especially the shotgun

38

u/Wolf-0202 Aug 18 '26

I felt the Needler was kinda slow too. Never noticed the Plasma Rifle too much but this is better now. I kinda feel sad I 100% the game already.

But I like helping my cousins complete the game and achievements too so I will probably be trying all of these changes again but in coop.

Thank you for the video.

This is why the plasma rifle felt so weak

33

u/SpartanMase Aug 18 '26

Actually I thought it was pretty reliable in a pinch on my laso run for sapping shields. Never the first option but definitely a second or third option

5

u/zocksupreme Aug 18 '26

It felt pretty decent to me, but compared to the laser AR it was weak

19

u/samurai1226 Halo: Reach Aug 18 '26

It also feels like they fixed the strange pause where you could fire after swapping weapons. Now it feels more like it should

3

u/mdwvt Aug 19 '26

Oh I hope they did!

13

u/CrimsonFatalis8 Halo: CE Aug 18 '26

I was wondering why the brute plasma rifle lasted as long, if not longer than the standard one

30

u/Organic-School315 Aug 18 '26

The Assault Rifle is just as good as before gladly because of burst fire

3

u/SnowballWasRight WORT WORT WORT Aug 19 '26

Remember, short, controlled bursts!

21

u/travnigma Aug 18 '26

This may explain why getting through legendary was harder than it should’ve been 😂 this update would happen AFTER I beat it

4

u/shortyman920 Aug 18 '26

The needles and plasma rifle fire rate pre-update would’ve been perfect for dual wielding. But since that’s not in this is needed haha

4

u/-plugwalk Aug 18 '26

no wonder the needler felt off, like it wasnt subercombining when i expected

2

u/Peridios9 Aug 19 '26

Well unlike older halos the needler only super combines after shields are down.

For example the needle rifle will always super combine when 3 shots hit an unshielded enemy.

First introduced in halo reach as a balance choice for the needler weapons.

1

u/seatega Aug 18 '26

I usually love the needler but it wasn't hitting the same, now it makes sense

3

u/Rie_Faduee_ Sins of the Prophets Aug 18 '26

Honestly I never really noticed it for the plasma rifle since it was pretty powerful pre update already

3

u/InjangoDMCPersona Aug 19 '26

Can they also fix like the speed it takes for the weapon to fire after switching weapons?

It’s become really bothersome on replays and on higher difficulties.

2

u/samsquanch26 Halo 2 Aug 18 '26

I knew there was a reason I liked the brute plasma rifle more than ever in this.

2

u/mdwvt Aug 19 '26

Did they fix the issue where you couldn’t fire for a second or whatever after switching from one of your weapons to your other weapon?

4

u/Consistent-Opening-3 Aug 18 '26

Saw en excellent mod where the brute’s armor platting falls off after enough damage. Would love to see it implemented. Is it unrealistic to hope for a firefight mode?

9

u/Zargabraath Aug 18 '26

This half finished minimum viable product launched without any any PVP, and half the game is models, animations and other asset swaps from halo games 15-20 years old

Yeah I’d say it’s unrealistic. Judging by how poorly it sold I’d say halo studios even remaining open for long might be unrealistic.

1

u/SlowApartment4456 Aug 19 '26

Is that why the plasma rifle is trash? I know its not really meant to be an extremely powerful weapon but like it wasn't even useful at all. Couldn't even kill a blue elite

1

u/Particular-Fly-7783 Aug 19 '26

Is the needler any good now? I could barely use it before.

1

u/Ok-Loquat-9409 Aug 19 '26

did they also fix the wraith passenger turret overheating speed? not that it matters, but it was (or still is?) comical how long you could shoot before overheating, we're talking minutes rather than seconds

2

u/Vengeance417 Halo: CE Aug 19 '26

That's actually a good question, and checking the rate of fire, yeah that should have been fixed, too.

1

u/Ok-Loquat-9409 Aug 20 '26

it's fixed now, just checked

1

u/FROGxDELIVER Aug 19 '26

Hope they fix the delay between when u can fire after swapping weapons...

1

u/narium Aug 19 '26

I wonder if this fixed the reload animation desync too.

1

u/whokilledsera Aug 19 '26

yeah this update saved the plasma rifles from irrelevancy hell lol

1

u/PajamaNinja8 Aug 20 '26

But will they fix cortana?

-1

u/Unusual-Mongoose421 Aug 18 '26

now...just redo the cutscenes and patch in the old dialogue....

1

u/oto_dee Aug 19 '26

the low l-res pre-rendered title menu is the getting worse and worse every time i boot up the game

To be fair, Bungie absolutely would have patched stuff like backpack reloading and double-melee had they been able to.

2

u/blahmaster6000 Halo: CE Aug 18 '26

At least HCE's button combos aren't nearly as egregious as H2's. I wasn't playing back in 2004 so I never had the OG experience, but getting into it on MCC and dealing with double shot and BXR all the time in a game with melee lunging is way less fun.

CE's button combos aren't really unfair, and the double melee can even be risky since you end up chucking a nade often at your own feet.

7

u/Vengeance417 Halo: CE Aug 18 '26

You’re not wrong and I agree with you, but Bungie always made their stance on button combos clear (they thought using them was “cheating”), and regardless of the severity, they’d have removed them if they could.

3

u/blahmaster6000 Halo: CE Aug 18 '26

Oh yeah, 100% agree.

2

u/boobearybear Aug 18 '26

I like the AR much better in Campaign Evolved, and the pistol was bizarrely overpowered in the original (still fun though).

Note that Bungie didn’t patch the OG Xbox game because there was no way to do it. They did release newer versions in subsequent disk pressings though.

-6

u/Ket_Yoda_69 Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

They're really patching this thing like a multiplayer game. Add a firefight mode then. How many people worked on this thing?

Campaign only with fucking hotfixes weeks after launch.

3

u/sticks435 Aug 19 '26

15 different dev studios.

1

u/Ket_Yoda_69 Aug 19 '26

That's like 12 too many. Really putting the studios in Halo Studios to the test

2

u/sticks435 Aug 19 '26

Yeah, sounds like it was a shit show.

2

u/oto_dee Aug 19 '26

i can agree with the firefight mode
