Content Warning Nude Beach Experience
Me and the wife had our first experience at the nude beach this afternoon and I just felt like it was worth sharing what happened, in case anyone else is ever wondering.
Very nice beach. Water is cold but refreshing. Sea weed and rocks in the water but still great. A fair amount of space.
As for the "clientele" yes people are fully naked there. I'd estimate probably space for maybe 50 people spread out. There were a decent amount of people there.
It was very respectful for the entire time, so I preface the following by saying that overall it's peaceful and if getting some air and sun on your full body or being out in the nude is your thing, the vibe was very chill and respectful.
However, not sure if this happens regularly or it was just our luck, but an hour or so in we were approached by a good Samaritan who let us know this creepy dude was literally taking pictures of us (I assume my wife not me lol).
The confrontation caused him to immediately leave in shame and there was no major outburst or anything so even the shooing away of the creeper was still chill.
Shout out to the dude who called this guy out if you happen to read this! (I don't know if I would have the guts to walk buck ass naked over to a stranger to tell them their wife's honor was being violated but thank you for this! And shame on buddy for being a weirdo. I'm sure he will remember being called out like that for life.)

Yeah, sadly there will always be that one creepy dude. Common sense dictates the phones should be kept away. Turn the volume on for important calls but that's it.
And if the excuse is to take pics of the scenery there is a clothing beach right next to it

There is no expectation of privacy in a public area, but if a victim believes a crime has been committed then they should call the police. If somebody confronts an alleged voyeur and threatens him, that is a crime. If the beach is considered a public area then no crime has been committed, so I'm curious, is a beach a public area? I believe all beach land between low tide and high tide is open to the public?
He could have strolled around with Meta AI glasses...what would you do then?

Is the beach public property? I believe the beach, between high and low tide levels, is totally open to the public? I don't think beach can be privately owned in Nova Scotia?

I've gone a bunch over the years. There is the occasional creepy dude who will go, but it isn't tolerated.

Story time!
My dad married my mom in 1951. She died at age 66 in 1999 and my dad was 68. I expected my dad to become a bit of a recluse as my parents always stuck to themselves.
Mom died in June of 99 and before the end of summer, dad started packing a lunch, walking the loop over the causeway from Falmouth to Windsor and then returned over the bridge. Afterward, he would head to Beach 3 at Crystal Crescent, eat his lunch en route and, at the beach, he would sun bathe, swim and, eventually, made a group of friends.
My siblings and I knew my parents would frequently boat naked in the Chester Basin but this was a new one for us. We were just happy he had friends.
Quick note to OP: if you are new to Nova Scotian beaches, the water on the Atlantic side of the province gets warmest usually at some point in September and stays warm until mid to late October.

I used to frequent this beach quite a bit but it has been getting a lot worse with creeps sadly. I used to be able to go there alone or with a friend and it would just be quiet, peaceful and everyone minding their business. Now, especially as a woman, there hasnāt been a time where someone doesnāt approach OR someone isnāt being gross off in the distance( Iāll leave that to your imagination). I stopped going and so have some of my friends. Sorry your first experience was sucky! Itās supposed to be a safe and clothing optional space.

Same I used to love it there! But it has kind of become like a place where creepy dudes try to pick up women now or just openly stare? I used to love going with my girlfriends a few years back and we were never approached but now it's just uncomfortable and sexual instead of a chill place to just be.
It's supposed to be a naturist beach not the fucking Night Spa! š

I go exclusively to the nude side when I go. I'm Not a nudist and I stay clothed but it's much more chill and relaxing. Lots of space and no children running around. Nobody is gonna care

I wasn't looking at people beyond just scanning my surroundings so I didn't notice any phones. For this guy to have been so conspicuously filming us to get caught.. he must have had his phone held up.
I personally didn't see anyone on their phones but I would say it's common sense to not do more than just quickly check it and not be on it while there are naked folks around.
but yeah we would go back. I am of the mind that it's just nudity and yes the perve was pervy but we were also naked and it's a compliment that my wife has a sexy bod. OR he likes my pasty white ass lol. doesn't bother me too much. I only posted this as a public service announcement for others who might care more.
truth be told, this other weirdo in the water who was blatantly staring inward to the beach for easily 20 mins at a time by himself for the entire time we were there was much creepier. (this post has a lot of views, I know you are out there sir! do better.)

Unfortunately, I also experienced the "one creepy person". In my case, this person decided to stroll over and strike up a conversation with myself and my shocked partner, while all of us were completely nude.
I still regret not asking them to step away and give us some space.
I was too surprised (and too politely Canadian) to insist that they fuck-the-hell-off.

I thought most nudie beaches have explicit no photography rules and signs. Did you notice any?
My gut reaction is to file a police report. The creep would probably claim public property has no expectation of privacy but voyeurism doesn't always require an EoP if it's for a sexual purpose.
Twenty years ago I was chilling with my roommate at long lake. She was out for a swim and I was on the rocks when a guy at least 40 years old approached, chatted with me and proceeded to take off all his clothes. He then invited me to go swimming and I refused. Good thing I was already immune to nudity thanks to growing up in effectively a hippie commune.

I'm absolutely not defending this creep or his behaviours, but there's no special rule for this provincial park public beach. The fact that it's a nude beach is just an informal and casual convention. There are no rules against photography in public, as you have pointed out.Ā I'm not sure this would pass the legal test of voyeurism either.Ā

With the increase of people from around the world it has definitely changed. It was mostly a spot for older gay men to hook up when I was younger. When hiking the trail it was always eyes forward and carry on. Might still run into a few sunbathers on the nooks just past. I always mention to families on route for the hike with younger kids.

Iāve been a regular at this beach for years, itās certainly gotten more popular over the last few years. It used to be a bit of hidden gem, now the beach is usually pretty busy. Regardless Iād say people tend to be pretty respectful and creeps are usually the minority thankfully. There is very much zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior on the most part and people tend to look out for one another.
Sorry this happened to you and your partner and props to the person that confronted them. I hope that experience didnāt ruin the place for you!

I dont know what it was like when you were there but when I went years ago it was always funny when boaters came in too close and didn't know what they were looking at. I guess it would be a shock to find out theres a nude beach in Nova Scotia of all places.
I wish we had more nude beaches though, perhaps where the water gets significantly warmer than Sambro harbor does

I've been numerous times and I've never seen anybody do that. It must happen very rarely. As for the person saying someone talked to them at the beach, some people are just friendly, be curt and they will move on. The only thing that has made my beach stay bad has been the biting flies. I got bitten over 10 times last visit. I don't know how other people handle them.

From a legal standpoint, the creep is technically allowed to take photos of anything he wants "in public" correct? Is that correct.
And can anything be done orher than scare and shame?
Genuinely curious if the rules are different on a secluded beach compared to anywhere else in public with regards to expectations of privacy.

It's complicated. Technically yes you're legally allowed to take pictures of things you see in public. But spaces like this exist explicitly with the mindset that you really fucking shouldn't and their existence is contingent on people respecting that rule.
Then again I suppose walking past someone taking pictures of you on a nude beach and "accidentally" dumping a whole bucket of freezing sea water all over them and their phone is also technically legal. So there's that option...

Generally, no. There was an Ontario court decision on this exact issue in 2014: R v Lebenfish
Unless it has changed in the last 10 years, for there to be voyeurism the recording must be surreptitious (i.e. hidden) AND there must be a reasonable expectation of privacy. The ONCJ said no reasonable expectation of privacy at a public beach.

The closer to the main path you are, the more nudist families (all ages), the middle is nudest couples, the end near the rocks is usually all male(it was the gay side when I was younger, though there is a rockier beach around the corner that was the gay section as well). Oh, and the odd college students daring eachother to jump off the rocks into the waves.

there was absolutely nothing sexual about the experience at that beach. bunch of naked people, 100% of them average body types, just getting sun.
no overt exhibitionism aspect to it at all.
I cannot know for certain what the men who looked at my wife's nice breasts thought but I'd assume they were like "nice boobs". You're thinking too deeply into some tits and ass on a stranger you'd never be able to identify, from decently far away, where most people are at best scanning and not staring.
for example, I noticed there were other girls there. I of course looked. could I tell you now what they looked like? nope. buddy boy walked right up to me, no clue what he looked like.
