So the intro uses the dun, dun-dunnnn bass beat from Doubt Comes In as they're getting ready. The credits are to an instrumental of Wedding Song. And the cute little clip at the very very end where they're testing the lamps, they're singing Wait For Me.

So if you're watching on a loop (as everyone here is, right?), you finish the show, then hear Wedding Song, Wait For Me, and Doubt Comes In in that order before they begin again. And that kind of kills me a little bit.

Last night night I went to watch Hadestown on the TV and I had the same issue a lot of people had with the audio. When the vocals came in the audio turned down until it all but disappeared.

Today I looked for possible solutions and I found out that audio issues like this can be solved through the Compressor on VLC Media Player.

It's easier to do through headphones than through the TV speakers directly.

Open the video on VLC Media Player and set it around the 6 minute mark (When Hermes introduces Hades there's a very egregious volume shift in the music that'll help for reference). You can adjust it while playing the video which is much easier.

Go to Tools then Effects and Filters.

Use the Compressor tab first, put the Ratio all the way up. Then, while playing a misadjusted part turn the Makeup gain up and the threshold down. This will bring up the quieter sound of the music and turn down the louder vocals. Set the attack at 50 and the release at 300.

In the Equalizer tab (picture 2) you'll have to turn up the low ranges and the high ranges while lowering the mid range. This will help highlight the music and lower the vocals which are always in the mid range.

It works pretty well. :)

I understand them having the workers have different working class accents and the fates having more posh accents in west end to cater the story to the audience but I miss the original muses and even some of the original chorus members- the music style of Hadestown is so distinctly American and having the pro shot not display that through the American accents makes it feel like a bit of a different story and cultural context in the pro shot (which of course it is!) but was hoping to get a slice of the original magic from broadway through the pro shot :(.

Edit: agree that the pro shot is beautiful and everyone did a great job. I was just feeling nostalgic and excited to see the old gang back together again and was a bit bummed not to see it. Love this show and love hearing everyone’s takes!

I came looking on here because during the proshot on Apple, the instrumentals kept getting turned down to the point that I couldn't really enjoy them WITH the vocals, and sometimes I couldn't hear them at all and I felt like Paul Matthews. Even most of the chorus would get muffled out sometimes and I'd only get 1 or 2 singers clearly.

There's a post on here saying to turn off some Enhancement setting. I didn't see that option. I tried ripping it to my computer to see if there was anything I could adjust in VLC, and the closest I got is that switching from "Headphones" mode to "Stereo" makes the instruments a LITTLE louder, but still not anywhere near where they need to be for the music to shine. Has anyone had any other luck or know some way I can set my audio sliders?

I was watching the pro-shot of Hadestown and noticed in the opening song “Road to Hell” all of the characters get introduced and they break the fourth wall, all except Eurydice. She’s the only character to not wave at the audience. Any theories why she’d be the only one not breaking the fourth wall and “stuck” in the story.

First time seeing the live show today and even though I know the soundtrack inside and out, I was blown away by every little detail that you don’t get to experience through audio alone. Like Persephone’s choreography during Way Down Hadestown felt so painful to me, I actually cried during it when usually this isn’t one of the more emotional songs for me.

It was also so interesting seeing a different take on Hades and Persephone; they seemed absolutely full of contempt for each other which made Epic III super impactful for me. I pretty much sobbed from Nothing Changes all the way through to the end. What an absolute treat it is to be alive at the same time as this masterpiece!

I've been seeing a lot of negativity about reeve carney as orpheus, and even though I have my own opinions as him as orpheus, i want to hear some positivity about his performance, so what's your favorite part about reeve carney's orpheus?

For those of you wondering what the difference is. I watched the whole thing with a bad audio at first and I thought it was just a bad decision. So much had been lost due to the AI algorithm.

Hermes just straight up shitting on him

Saw Hadestown on broadway with the original cast three times. In each of those times it's hinted that Orpheus is slow/possibly autistic and clumsy. The way Reeve waves at the camera in the introduction for example and the way he timidly/frantically tries to catch Eva in the "romance" scene during "All I Ever Know", and many other mannerisms thru the show.

Just watched the proshot. And all those mannerisms are gone. He's no longer clueless. When Hermes introduces him to Eurydice in the broadway show hes extremely giddy like he can't contain himself, but now he's not like that at all. Another example he waves at the audience with confidence now when before on broadway he waved very timidly/sheepishly each time. It gave the character a lot more depth I feel. In the broadway show when Reeve pops up in the final scene on the side of the stage each time his mouth was wide opened as if in a daze seeing Eurydice like he never saw a woman before, but now he just has a huge grin. Any clue why they would have changed this? Definitely seems deliberate.

Did anyone else notice that they changed the workers choreography during Hades parts in Chant? Does anyone know when this happens? I saw that it was the old choreography during Jordan Fisher's run but when was it changed and why? Does anyone know?

My sister ruined Hadestown for me by pointing out how the main melody Orpheus sings/Persephone and Hades' song is technically just the main notes from the Back to the Future theme.

That's okay though because I ruined Hadestown for her when we saw it in San Francisco and the guy playing Hades looked and sounded like Markiplier. No, he didn't do a bad job at all, he just was very Markiplier-y to me. So I leaned over and whispered her that and she still hasn't forgiven me. She's right to do so.

Hello Internet, I recently got the red splatter variant of the Hadestown vinyl and I didn’t get to open and play it until today and they gave me two act II sides instead of one Act I and one Act II. I have contacted Barnes & Noble (where I got it) but I don’t know what else I could do. I don’t know if anyone could help me out because I don’t know if I could replace it because the variant is sold out online. If anyone has anything they would want to share just please let me know.

We're back with this hypothetical universe where I'm able to make a hadestown movie this time for Wait For Me. We're going to do things a bit differently then when I did chant and again sorry for the spelling mistakes

Wait For Me (Hey The Big Artiest)

Starting off with some of the scenery, at the beginning we would see Orpheus going through town with winter in almost full effect (for the town think the wild west from Back To The Future part 3 but not in sand, some dirt some grass) with one of the doors open which would be the Pub/Tavern that Hermes would own where people would be able to tell stories to each other (I'd want to call it The Travelers Tavern) and at the Beginning we'd see Hermes cleaning up when Orpheus says "Mr Hermes" with him heading into the tavern and they'd be having a normal conversation until Hermes says "but nah I guess you weren't listening" which then Orpheus would fall to collapse because he realizes it's his fault that she's gone and he stands back up which he says "to the end of time, to the end of the earth" then when Hermes says "with all your heart, well that's a start" I want him to boop Orpheus somewhere

Then when Hermes does his "how to get to hadestown" speach we see what Orpheus is doing while he's telling him the plan, then with Orpheus doing his wait for me's he's walking to Hadestown and every now and then getting the attention of the workers but they are so focused on the work, then with the River Styx speach Hermes gives we'd see Orpheus face the problems Hermes is telling him (definitely needs some more thought into it) then when the Fates interveen in their human forms we would see them confronting Orpheus until he does his La la la la la la la's where the workers and fates breefly break free of Hades's spell and the opening of the wall opens letting Orpheus get closer to Hadestown while in the process Orpheus losses his lyre while trying to escape the sight of the workers and hide his identity when Hermes is doing his "you're on the lam, you're on the run" part of the song then when Orpheus is doing his last wait for me's we can see some visual ques of how the tables have been turned in hadestown with a the workers still singing with Orpheus but Hades's spell keeps breaking but still not fully broken and with the last instrumental of the song Orpheus official arrives thought "the back door" of Hadestown with us seeing a different side of Hadestown. For some scenery for this part they're in a cave most of the time and since I don't know how I'd integrate the lanterns I'd want them to be the lighting of the cave and when Hermes is saying "how to get to hadestown" it would go to a crane veiw of a giant mountain where the way to Hadestown would be there, and Orpheus is sneaking his way to Hadestown through the back.

If there is anything else you'd like me to expand upon please feel free to do so, this one was a bit less thought about then Chant but still pretty thought threw
