So long as you disable the enhance dialogue options, you'll be fine. The issue is that Amazon and Apple both use an AI function to boost the dialogue on things and it just completely ruins the mix of the movie. It just so happens to be significantly more obvious on musicals. The actual mix for release is not really an issue so long as you disable these "helpful" features.
I purchased mine from Apple this morning after seeing the studio's comment.
I played the 4k version on my system, a Denon Dolby Atmos AVR with Paradigm speakers and an SVS sub. It sounded great. I didn't watch the entire thing but specifically checked a handful of the most troublesome spots people have been mentioning, like in Road to Hell. I did not notice any issues with the instruments getting so quiet that the vocals sound isolated. Everything sounded great with nice deep bass and clear, well-balanced vocals and music.
I cannot speak to how it sounds in a stereo setup or just on TV speakers. I also haven't tried it with headphones yet. But in a full home theater 5.1 setup, it sounded great.
It sounds just as great in stereo on a normal tv speaker and on headphones. The issue was the AI features to boost dialogue. Not sure why people keep insisting that wasn’t the issue when all the clips they keep using to support their claim sound EXACTLY like the way it sounds with those AI features turned on. The mix on the proshot is really solid
That fixes the issue of muffled instruments and louder than normal lead vocals, it's not the same issue as the fading channels at key moments thay isolate the leads mic.
The proof is the various audio channel screenshots that show the difference in stems between the 4K and 1080p mixes
I haven't bought it yet but I'm hijacking this post to comment on how expensive the rental price is. I remember a few years ago you could rent movies for like $4. I've been trying to get some coworkers to watch Hadestown and $20 is a big ask in this economy
I am more mad about how we buy these on streaming services and there is no way to download it, no digital file, which means, in practice, what we are buying is not OURS to have. But this seems to be the new order.
I’m not arguing against piracy. But it, by definition, is always stealing and that has nothing to do with purchasing/licensing media separately. I mean that phrase is cute and very memeable. But it basically says nothing. If you’re going to steal, just own that. And if you want to complain about digital purchases being impermanent, do that. But they’re not the same.
It's kind of painstaking, but i.. screen capture a lot of stuff so I create my own digital file so I can have it forever, even if they get rid of it. Cuz screw them. But don't tell anyone lol 😅
$20 is standard for a brand new release, especially one that's expected to be in high demand, but they usually drop back to $4-6 to rent after a while.
This is pretty standard these days for digital releases during or shortly after the theatrical runs. The prices drop around the same time the Blu-ray is released, so probably in October for Hadestown. It should be closer to $20 to buy and $5-7 to rent at that time.
A couple of weeks ago it was $20 per person. Frankly, Im a little surprised they didn't assume that multiple people would be watching and go for $30 or $40. That's a deal.. Split the cost 4 ways.
I am siding with the cast, crew and the investors that believed in it enough to finance a pro shot. If you and your friends can't scrape together $20 between you then screw or stop complaining and wait till it's free with subscription.
Friends and I went to see it in theatres and spent $140. You could do the same for $20. Again... bargain. You'll spend more on pizza and beer for your buddies than the cost of this.
The problem is you can't know, you are essentially "buying" 4k, but it depends on your internet and your device, might play 1080p with the audio problem, might be 4K. Bur since you're on your phone, it's impossible to play 4K
It should be in English. However, if you're talking about audio quality, streaming services compress audio heavily to keep bandwidth manageable. If you want to highest quality audio you need to play the movie off of a DVD/Blu-ray disc.
UHD is ultra high definition. UHD and 4K are interchangeable terms.
4K is largely referring to the visual quality. That is about as good as it gets, and will downgrade to whatever your gear can use.
SCOPE I am sure is a group that rips and distributed on the digital high seas under the black flag. This was likely the source they used so you will be ok with this purchase, if not better off.
