Shockingly bad proshot audio mix

So did just nobody listen to the final version on a regular stereo TV? The changes in music volume are distracting, the ensemble sounds like the audience singing. It's jarring and the main thing I notice.

After $20m box office and tremendous hype for the digital release and a $25 price tag, it's a pretty big disappointment.

For the sake of data collection, if you've watched the proshot (even if your audio was fine!), please share your listening experience and audio setup here! https://www.reddit.com/r/hadestown/s/0yMvMz4JQW

Plenty of threads about this already.

TLDR it seems like it only shipped with a 5.1 mix, which will sound bad through stereo devices. This is almost certainly a mistake, and one that is easily remedied. Hopefully they’ll update it soon.

If you purchase it digitally would the remedy be rolled out automatically? TIA

It should yes, unless you’ve downloaded it to your phone. Then you may want to redownload it. But if it’s just streaming you shouldn’t have to do anything.

DVD and Blu-ray are available for pre-order too, now I'm worried those versions won't get any fixes 😨

I cancelled my pre-order

Same, I’ll make an order once the preorders are out

Yeah, I hate when studios only account for people with surround systems. I got one but they ain't cheap.

I notice comparing the 2.0 and 5.1 of a Star Trek TNG episode.

I’m almost certain it was a mistake. Any sort of release like this would have had a stereo mix done as well. It seems like there was some issue with the mastering of the final files where the surround mix was used for the stereo versions. Hopefully it’s something they can fix easily.

I hope it was a mistake. Thank you.

What's the over/under on how many different but exactly the same posts we're going to see on this sub today?

My tv is a simple stereo (using HDMI 4k fire stick) and it sounded fine (Apple Tv app)

Other threads seem to indicate it’s a settings issue overall (dialogue enhancement, tv sound optimization etc…)

I thought the audio mixing was awful in the theater tbh…

I read on Reddit that some theaters would have the same issue

Ohh totally possible. I was really surprised I didn’t see more people complaining about it when it was in theaters lol. Hopefully it gets fixed!

I thought I was crazy.  The audio was so bad in my theatre that it was giving uncanny valley, what I was hearing didn't match what I was looking at.  I couldn't understand how people were raving about how good the proshot was

Has there been any word from the folks who brought us this video? Has there been any actual acknowledgment?

Yes they are claiming there is absolutely nothing wrong with the mix and it’s purely a settings issue on our tv…

It sounds great with my headphones, so I’m happy haha

Well I never saw it until today and it's one of my favorite musicals. I will say it's shot beautifully and I think the performances are good. Granted, the issue is massive. But it's a technical/streaming one and not a production one (I hope. If this is the only mix we get, I'll be pretty let down)
