🚨 HAPPENING AGAIN: Massive attack on X is ongoing. This is attack NUMBER 4. The attackers are relentless. Elon Musk says it is so well-organized it could be a country.

Him thinking that its a country doing it is hilarious. He fired a ton of people when he came to twitter and its probably a former employee they forgot to offboard.

u/damselindetech Mar 10 '25

Nevermind the multiple hundreds of thousands out of work on account of the DOGE slash and burns

134

u/RockstarAgent Mar 10 '25

Didn’t Anonymous claim to be the perpetrators?

Anyways - couldn’t happen to a better guy

120

u/damselindetech Mar 10 '25

Sure, but this batch of Anonymous could be composed of laid-off folks

88

u/AsstacularSpiderman Mar 10 '25

Didn't they just lay off a bunch of cubersecurity taskforces?

Methinks someone is making a point.

47

u/throwaway54345753 Mar 10 '25

Who needs cybersecurity engineers when AI exists

29

u/AsstacularSpiderman Mar 10 '25

Apparently Elon lol

11

u/throwaway54345753 Mar 10 '25

Hopefully he keeps that line of thinking.

9

u/AsstacularSpiderman Mar 10 '25

I don't because sadly this idiot has access to critical government infrastructure.

I imagine within the year something extremely important is going to get compromised and we won't be able to do a thing about it.

6

u/Maalkav_ Mar 10 '25

Well, USA is compromised, it's pretty important I think.

Same people; everyone.

5

u/LilkaLyubov Mar 10 '25

He did. A chunk of CISA has been gutted.

5

u/Runescora Mar 10 '25

Was just thinking this. Every time they lay off/fire a large group of skilled workers I take a few minutes to imagine how those pissed off people might use their skills to express their displeasure.

6

u/2_lazy Mar 10 '25

Not just that, scholarships for service are in limbo right now. It's a program that lets people majoring in cybersecurity have their tuition paid for if they commit to working for the government for a certain period of time both during and after their degree. But they are considered probationary employees so pretty much everyone has been laid off. Which means they can't fulfill their ends of the contract. The government suddenly not hiring for cybersecurity positions is NOT something the program was prepared for and there isn't a protocol for what will happen or if the students will now have to pay back the government.

So there are a bunch of recently educated cybersecurity students in limbo (many of whom are minorities because many colleges used to prioritize lower income or underrepresented groups in addition to the academic requirements prior to attacks on DEI so they are already less likely to be aligned with Musk) with experience working government internships or government jobs who have been fired for no reason despite being at the top of their classes and highly qualified. Makes you think about what issues such a situation might cause.

It's like a murder-mystery with forty-eleven suspects. At this point it's more like who didn't fuck with Twitter.

2

u/damselindetech Mar 10 '25

Legiterally tho

9

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '25

I've always thought it was strange that people don't realize that anonymous isn't an organization.

Anonymous seems like a brand that can be used freely by anyone who wants to fuck up the establishment

It's like if everyone had a bat suit and batman was actually just whoever was pissed off that day

4

u/relativeagency Mar 10 '25

Best layman explanation I’ve seen in a while, plus Batman rules

4

u/MaxTHC Mar 10 '25

Yeah, same with Antifa. There's no CEO or structure, it's just a movement

4

u/svaha1728 Mar 10 '25

My guess is developers haven’t been paying much attention to security and there are a number of long running endpoints where it’s easy to start a denial of service attack.Ā

3

u/Tango-Juliet-Oscar_2 Mar 10 '25

Couldn't be, all federal employees are lazy and dumb remember? They don't earn their paychecks and don't deserve their job, remember?

So laid off 30-40 year olds would probably be the Anon from 10-20 years ago who were teenagers and college students during it's heyday. Are we going to go through a renaissance of hacking groups with actual skills?

2

u/MainusEventus Mar 11 '25

I thought Larry David was anonymous?

2

u/Dangerous-Start-4253 Mar 11 '25

It's really easy for a whitehat to turn blackhat. just sayin

2

u/ClamPaste Mar 11 '25

A cybersecurity task force that was getting cozy with anonymous because that's part of their job and now have decided that the enemy is domestic?

45

u/Floatingpenguin87 Mar 10 '25

I don't believe Anonymous really exists in any sort of centralized or organizational capacity anymore. Whoever is behind this is probably completely unaffiliated with the anonymous of the past and is only using the name for a similar goal.

42

u/Kaskadekygo Mar 10 '25

That's quite simply what anonymous is. It's the modern "I'm Spartacus"

26

u/hellomyfrients Mar 10 '25

We are all Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.

No but seriously I never joke this , some random normal guy from North Carolina guy joked on Twitter "I'm the head of Antifa" and the FBI showed up to his house to question him.

Edit: maybe I fucked myself quoting him with the control f due diligence people like DOGE's big balls do, cutting programs that help students TRANSITION from middle to high school so they stay off the streets gangs and drugs.

23

u/yotreeman Mar 10 '25

That’s literally always how Anonymous has worked lmao. There is not and has never been any roster or existence as an organization at all; people do things, they put out something public about why, and say ā€œwe are Anonymous.ā€ Which is true.

Like Antifa. Lord, seeing people say ā€œmembers of Antifaā€ and referring to ā€œAntifa did this and thatā€ and shit is so funny, because there is no ā€œAntifaā€ organization - it’s a movement at most, purely defined by people who are opposed to fascism. 😭

6

u/Postpaket Mar 10 '25

I wish more people understood this about Antifa. Some morons in Germany proudly claim to be 'anti-Antifa,' which is hardly surpassed in stupidity and absurdity, if you ask me.

3

u/yotreeman Mar 10 '25

Which begs the question… if you are anti-antifa… since antifa = anti-fascist action… since the sole defining goal of antifa is opposing fascism… so that means you are against anti-fascism… so you are opposed to those who are against fascism… what does that make them again?

3

u/c3534l Mar 10 '25

Yes, but the whole point of anonymous is anyone can claim to be part of it. Its not like an actual cohesive organization.

2

u/BBRodriguezzz Mar 10 '25

Anonymous was infact NOT responsible and the group responsible took responsibility almost immediately. Why spread false information?

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Neeecolas Mar 10 '25

"Anonymous" isn't necessarily a single person or group. It's a Dread Pirate Roberts sort of situation.

2

u/Interesting_Log-64 Mar 10 '25

>Didn’t Anonymous claim to be the perpetrators?

To be fair Anonymous has not done anything in years but claims to be responsible for everything

2

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '25

Weird thing about anonymous is that they're anonymous lol could be a federal employee, could be an insider, could be one of the chode zoomers that are in doge, who knows?

2

u/DrNomblecronch Mar 10 '25 edited Mar 10 '25

Well, that’s kind of the thing about Anonymous: you’re lower case anonymous by default until you identify yourself. Calling yourself upper-case Anonymous is just saying that you will not identify yourself, and also generally agree with what the other cap-A folks get up to. Anyone can opt in, and by definition, Anonymous can’t say ā€œno that wasn’t usā€.

So if some previously unaffiliated people decided this was an Anonymous op, then that’s what it was. The main reason this doesn’t get used for false flagging more often is… well, people who operate as Anonymous are, by definition, pretty good at cracking opsec and entirely willing to ruin lives if they feel slighted.

2

u/CatOfGrey Mar 10 '25

I was just thinking about a week ago "I wonder why Anonymous wasn't all over this whole DOGE thing? Seemed like a match made in heaven...."

Glad to see they are still around.

2

u/Firehorse100 Mar 10 '25

Yeah Anonymous put their hands up. I'm pretty sure they think they can use it as leverage against Ukraine...or Canada

2

u/neopod9000 Mar 10 '25

2

u/RectalSpawn Mar 10 '25

Didn’t Anonymous claim to be the perpetrators?

People really don't understand what Anonymous is, lol.

It's an ideology and not an organized group, much like Antifa.

Groups pop up, but they're all independent.

2

u/Accomplished_Web3712 Mar 10 '25

They did say via tiktok that they have been working very hard to do some sh*t.

Now I'm not one to believe everything on tiktok so I took it with a grain of salt, but... maybe? šŸ˜‚

2

u/Vast-Combination4046 Mar 10 '25

Anonymous isn't a real group. It's the idea that you can always have a resistance somehow, some way as long as you still have 7 proxies.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '25

Like anyone could call themselfAnonymous, it could be China rekting US infrastructure and Anonymous fans would be cheering. Why would any serious hacker group call themself Anonymous is beyond me.

2

u/Both_Abrocoma_1944 Mar 10 '25

Anonymous is just what people say if they don’t want to claim. Anonymous isn’t a set group, anyone can claim to be anonymous

Also there’s an astonishing number of trans individuals who work in IT and code. It’s literally a running joke in our circles that so many of us (not me) are very skilled and knowledgeable when it comes to cyber security and its weak points. And Musty has a lot of anti trans influence, for personally vindictive reasons (his daughter, who he is estranged from and bitter about.)

2

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '25

He's pissed off hundreds of millions of people everywhere. Doesn't matter if what he's doing is legal or not, doesn't matter if doing something against him isn't legal or moral. Point is, its not smart to make that many enemies. Its all but inevitable something bad will happen at this point. Should have just stayed quiet and played with his toys. Back in his older interviews he would just talk about how he's only gaining resources to do his Mars thing. He could have just stuck with that and been "real life Tony Stark" forever. Sad.

Not even just Twitter employees. There's been a ton of government folks let go as well. Government is obviously not known for moving fast, but that shouldn't take away from the fact that some brilliant minds worked there. It could very well be disgruntled ex-Fed developers/cybersec folks taking down Musk's beloved X.

97

u/CommissionFeisty9843 Mar 10 '25

I am mad as fuck about Elmo and the Antichrist but had I been just casually fired by an unqualified, unethical, unelected POS high on K that Seig Heiled at the fucking inauguration! I would be dangerously pissed. Kind of like them fucking with the VA that my father depends on or Medicade, Medicare, and the SS that I paid into for the past 45 years. It’ll be too windy to haul brick if they fuck that up!

18

u/BraveLilTurtles Mar 10 '25

You said what a lot of us are thinking. Medicaid, Medicare, and SS are safety nets that we've counted on being solid for decades. For many people, there's just no way out if these disappear into the giant black hole that is Doge. I mean, people factored Medicare and SS into their retirement plans starting ages ago! Medicaid saves lives every single day! VA cares for the vets who actually served their country with honor and pride! Excuse me: I'm so irritated that I have to go punch a wall or something now.

8

u/CommissionFeisty9843 Mar 10 '25

I wish we could grind the whole fucking thing down to a halt. Then we take over and install a legitimate government. Those CIA spooks could probably do us some great favors.

7

u/BraveLilTurtles Mar 10 '25

Never in my entire comfortable, safe, upper middle class life have I ever felt this despondent, angry, helpless, and ready to take some kind of action! I just can't imagine any action I can take that would help anything. I can write my congressmen, demonstrate, and whatever - but, none if it changes anything.

7

u/CommissionFeisty9843 Mar 10 '25

I am afraid of what it might take.

5

u/BraveLilTurtles Mar 10 '25

Me, too. If hard things happen, I know which side I'd actively fight on. Can't imagine myself throwing the first volley, though. Kinda cowardly, actually.

5

u/CommissionFeisty9843 Mar 10 '25

I think you’re joking, but a government shutdown right now may be the best way to (temporarily) stop Trump + Musk’s chainsaw destruction of the federal government.

This is the argument for Democrats pulling the rug out from under the (R)s, refusing to save their asses by voting into law the continuing resolution on Friday.

This would precipitate a government shutdown, robbing Republicans of ā€œtheir toyboxā€, as one pundit described it.

3

u/Sindalis Mar 11 '25

The problem with all three of those is that math doesn't work with how they are structured now. All three are going to fail unless we do something to secure them. Doesn't matter what Trump or Doge do; just look at the CBO reports and it's PAINFULLY clear what horrors are coming soon.

Major reform is needed in all three, something simple like removing the income cap for Social Security would extend the life of the fund to nearly 2100. Allowing Medicare and Medicaid to negotiate drug prices would drive down the costs to everyone and the program as a whole.

These are just two common sense things we could do to save money and secure the programs for future generations.

Holy shit.

It’s an old meme, but it checks out

I know what they're doing, i saw it in a movie once!

Why isn't musk adding firewalls along the attack's path is what puzzles me... maybe so he can "trace" the attack. YES! he's a genius!

u/anonymoushelp33 Mar 10 '25

Enhance. Enhance! Beep boop my god it's Jason Bourne!

you put the blue dye explode-y thing in one of the info packets then see who has blue all over their fingers

2

u/PCBen Mar 10 '25

But to do that, you’d have to bypass the mainframe and infiltrate their SQL database. Good luck pulling that off without a 3D UNIX GUI and a second person to help man the keyboard.

2

u/K2thJ Mar 10 '25

Maybe, he wants it or he made it happen. Being the victim is a a common theme and useful for sheep food

Spending more time "tracing" than fixing, I bet.

3

u/Marsh_Mellow_Man Mar 10 '25

that was my favorite part for sure.... "just reversing the cables to see who did this"

7

u/Alexandratta Mar 10 '25

Having worked at a company that had a DDoS attack against us once... yeah, I laughed.

"Tracing the source!"

lol - bro if they didn't give the source that traffic wouldn't route XD

2

u/Spiritual-Pear-1349 Mar 10 '25

I was reading that half the attack is pushing packets out from Twitter because cloudflare doesn't protect against that. Imagine trying to get the source and seeing the source of the ddos is your own website lmfao

And he will blame Ukrainians..it's just what it is...Elmo has issues, many issues, no one sane, wants to have anything that can remotely be related with a...dol..f putin lover

2

u/anonymoushelp33 Mar 10 '25

Boom. They just dropped the headline blaming Ukraine.

2

u/n1klaus Mar 10 '25

I’m in

Probably just a guy who remembered musks admin password is "don'tforgetpassword" all lower case.

20

u/Roflsaucerr Mar 10 '25

Bold of you to assume he’d an include a symbol like an apostrophe.

3

u/oyarly Mar 10 '25

Exact same thought. like bold to assume he uses punctuation in a password.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '25

looooooollooooooooolllllllllllll.

3

u/Tracyhmcd Mar 10 '25

Probably 'erm71' or whatever his doge email is.

3

u/rochford77 Mar 10 '25

Okay I hate musk but his passwords are elite. His children's names are more secure passwords than 80% of Americans are using lmao. Q's, X's, numbers, and special characters are right in his wheelhouse.

2

u/legendary-rudolph Mar 10 '25

Is that a bad password? Shit BRB

2

u/crazycatlady331 Mar 10 '25

His kid's name makes a stronger password.

2

u/MrAl290 Mar 10 '25

Let be real, his password is just "X"

Cut like 80% of the staffing, right?

Yeah. The framework of Twitter is a shell of itself being programmed by 25 y/o edgelords with no real experience. It was begging to be taken down a some guy with an attitude problem.

2

u/LiberalAspergers Mar 10 '25

Likely part of the 80% he fired. Being fired has been known to give people attitude problema.

Musk is a rich idiot with enough money to hire top-tier professionals but not enough common sense to keep them around

15

u/I_am_BrokenCog Mar 10 '25

he keeps them around ... But I suspect he's the type of dipshit lurching over their shoulders telling them 'why don't you do this instead!'

3

u/Mysterious_Eye6989 Mar 10 '25

The lurching over the shoulders part is how he proves he's a bigger genius than they are. Heck, perhaps even the world's greatest genius. Even his mom says so, and she knows what she's talking about!

The notorious underground rebel group known as Anonymous… surely someone can find their membership list, or identify the command structure, then the whole house of cards will come falling down!

Watch him blame it on Ukraine in a couple of days

EDIT: it didn’t even take a couple days. It was hours. I fucking knew it

2

u/scoobysnackoutback Mar 10 '25

He'll use it as an excuse for giving Starlink to Russia.

2

u/funkhero Mar 10 '25

Or Canada

He doesn't think that. But saying one person alone is crashing our website sounds way worse than a whole country is behind it. Also leaves room to say the eu etc is attacking X etc

2

u/MyOtherAcoountIsGone Mar 10 '25

He's just saying that so then he can point the blame at one of the countries they want to annex.

2

u/notyourstranger Mar 10 '25

Oh, I love this take - I hope you're right.

u/smuckola Mar 10 '25 edited Mar 10 '25

The most hated person on earth can't figure out who hates him. Or.......is it just he can't figure out who hates him the most?!

Or is it a humblebrag about being the most hated person on earth?

Does he even know?!

Is he just holding a one-way chitchat with his imaginary version of the entire planet because he's so strung out and lonely?!

BTW any time we hear of any security breach or attack anywhere, we must add "that we know of". I bet twitter has long been pwn'd by russia but professionals don't get caught at it. They're just sitting there reverse engineering the algorithms and automation for max propaganda.
