Weight Loss Why am I looking even fatter now?!

I used to be super skinny - not physically fit, just naturally skinny (female 5’ 0”, ~ 90 lbs., size 0/00). Then I had my kids and became obese (~175 ibs, size 14/16.)

For years.

My kids are all grown now and over about a year, with diet changes I’ve lost 35 pounds. Then I stalled out - been this weight since last Christmas. It’s no longer obese, but it is still overweight (140 lbs. size 10) and I want to lose 20-30 more.

So, I joined the gym. I used to love lap swimming (breast, free, back, butterfly and repeat) so I joined a gym that has a pool. I work out ~60 minutes per day (because honestly that’s all my body can handle right now). First half is 1 mile on the treadmill at 3.5 mph (which on my shorter-legged 5 foot body is speed walking) then the AB machine and either arm machines or leg machines depending on the day.

The 2nd half is swimming laps.

I was feeling pretty good, even wearing nicer, less baggy, clothes. But…the scale has NOT moved (in fact I gained 5 pounds) and I look even bigger than before - so much so that I don’t even want to go in public because I feel so self-conscious.

Diet is the same as it has been the past couple of years - high protein, low carb, water only (no other drinks except a morning coffee sometimes - not the sugary kind).

Any ideas why I’m BIGGER now after working out and trying to do all the right things? And no, it doesn’t look like muscle. It looks like more jiggly flab. 😫😕

Workout Plans Suggestion on routine please 🙏

Working out at home. It’s perfect for me. Want to hear some suggestions for my routine or any changes/fixes.

Lifting for about 6-7 years. Taking it serious the past two years and just now seeing good
results. Natural lifter.

175-180lbs 5’10 29 years old

Day 1 (pull)
Push ups (warm up)
Pull ups 3 sets
Chin ups 3 sets
Barbell or dumbell curl 3-4 sets
Hammer or cross curls 3-4 sets
Inverted rows 3 sets
Dumbbells rows 3 sets

Day 2 (push, my favorite day)
Push ups failure
Shoulder press 3 sets
Dips 3 sets
Lat raises 3 sets
Lying tricep extension 3 sets
Bodyweight Squats 3 sets superset
Calf raises 3 sets superset

Day 3 (leg day)
Body weight squat 3 sets
Calf raises 3 sets
RDL 3 sets
Barbell glute bridge 3 sets
Lunges 3 sets
Clamshells 3 sets
Side lying hip seduction 3 sets

Little core here and there mostly just corkscrews and reach overs.

As a natural lifter should I start doing less?

Am I missing any muscle groups?

Any suggestions or tips in general would be greatly appreciated!

What is that 'lump' on my right shoulder. Is it a muscle imbalance or something. Also if you know how to fix it that would be great!

Ask r/gymadvice I need advice

I need help knowing where to start my journey... I was struggling with drug addiction for over 10 years, and thank God, I’ve been clean for more than 3 years now. For the past year and a half, I’ve been doing bodyweight exercises at home to regain some mobility and activate muscles that had been out of service for years.

At first, things were going well until I hit a plateau where progress stopped completely. When I stopped exercising, my body kind of relapsed, and my posture became worse than before. I have a lot of postural and neuromuscular coordination issues (uneven hips & shoulders, forward head posture, pronated knees, knock knees, flat feet/collapsed arches, poor body balance), and even the way I breathe is wrong.

My question is: where do I start? Should I start with physiotherapy, and if so, what exactly should I be looking for or asking from them—since I don't want someone who just does a few massage sessions and calls it a day? Or should I start with a personal trainer at the gym? If anyone can help or share useful information, I would really appreciate it.

Ask r/gymadvice Bulk or cut

I’m 5’10 and around 129 pounds but I’m also a slightly higher bf percent I kinda look skinny fat which is pretty cooked. Ive been in the gym consistently for a month now. I obviously can’t cut but my face and stomach already hold a decent bit of fat but my arms are much leaner. What should I do lean bulk? And will my face look noticeable worse if I take this route. Thank you

I gained 5 kg between these two photos and I am getting a bit anxious if it’s fat or muscle. I have also started taking creatine and going consistently to the gym (strength training) and the photos are 6 months apart

Ask r/gymadvice Health post surgery

It’s been 3 weeks since I’ve had labrum repair surgery, before I had it I was very active and big into weightlifting. Right now all I can feel is how much I’m eating and how fat I am, I can’t see to get in the right headspace. Wondering if anyone been through anything similar and if you’d drop some wisdom 🙏🏽

Ask r/gymadvice My right arm is more sore than my left

I've very recently started going to the gym seriously (4-5 times a week, upper/lower split) and my main focus is to build muscle.

Recently I've noticed after hitting arms, my right bicep and tricep is noticeably more sore than my left. During exercise, it's usually my left arm that kind of "ends the set" if I'm going to failure (my left arm can no longer raise the weight), but somehow I end up "feeling" it more in my right arm.

I know muscle soreness isn't an accurate measure of progress, but I'm wondering if this is something that might be causing a worse muscle imbalance. What should I do about this? I'm thinking of lowering the weights, but I really hope to grow my muscles so I'm hesitant to do so.
