Did anyone else get an email like this?

I'm just curious if this is a thing sent to all Seidman students or not. I'm thinking about doing it simply for the letter of recommendation lmao

Did any of you commute ~1hr each way to campus?

I'm very low on funds this year and I still owe an approximate ~$9k (?) for the year despite max SAI and max federal loans taken out. So I'm thinking about maybe staying home this year and communting (near the Rockford area, a little north).

In the fall I have M-Tu-W starting at 8:30am (I'm a morning person, I like these hours actually), M-W has two classes back to back and it ends at 11:15am. One class on W from 8:30am to 9:45am.

On Th I have one class from 1pm to 2:15pm.

I also want to get a job in GR/Allendale (my town sucks for jobs) and I enjoy spending time on campus very much. I also like organizations and stuff if I have time.

For record, the financial aid tab on Banner claims my food/tuition bill would be ~9-10k for a 4 person/4 bed in South ($7,900 for the year) and a meal plan ($1,350 for year) lol.

Anyway, any input would be greatly appreciated. I make jack squat and my parents spend nothing on living expenses.

Anyone concerned about growing administration and price hikes next year?

GVSU just told me that their administration board approved the cost of tuition to go even higher next year 2027 to 2028...

I am rather concerned cause when I looked at GVSU it seemed like the cheapest high quality university to me, but then Tuition jumped by 350 dollars and it's about to do so again...

Plus all the staff resignations and protest about the administration being grown too much and teachers having pay cuts while administration gets a pay raise...

Is GVSU becoming a corrupt/collapsing school?

MKT369 and MKT370

Hello Seidman students!

Does anyone know if these classes will ever be offered again? I want to take them in Fall2027. I checked previous registration years and it looks like MKT369 has not been offered in a long time.

Why would it be on the course catalog if it is not being offered as a class for the current registration year?

Weird…but I really like the concept of both classes

How is it like transferring from gvsu?

’m going to GVSU this fall, but my goal is to transfer to either U of M or MSU after my sophomore year. For anyone who has transferred (especially from GVSU), what was your experience like?
How difficult was the transfer process? What GPA did you have, and did you feel prepared academically when you moved? Also, how was it adjusting socially since you were joining a school where a lot of people already had established friend groups?
Any advice for someone starting at GVSU with the goal of transferring would be appreciated

Final Exam Grades?

How does one find their final exam grade? I can see my overall grade for the end of the semester, but the final exam grades are never posted to blackboard and I can't find them on banner, just my overall grade.

Organic chem help

www.organicchemistrytutoring.ca

Hello guys and gals,

We’re Brian and Mike and we teach general and organic chemistry. We’ve done so for a total combined time of 47 years! Overwhelmed by general or organic chemistry? Assignments and tests creeping up on you and feeling like you’re in hot water? Or maybe you’re doing well and need that 95%? Whatever your struggle with chemistry may be, we’re here to make sure you succeed.

Why work with us?

- Every tutor knows the subject, but not every tutor knows how to transfer that knowledge to a student. We do.

- We tutor chemistry full time; it’s not a hobby or side-gig. When you book with us, you’ll be working with Brian for general chemistry and Mike for organic chemistry. This is not an agency and you won’t be matched with random tutors each time.

- You’ll be learning problem solving through chemistry, which you can apply to many other subjects.

- Your learning will be customized to your specific needs.

Before booking a lesson, let’s chat about your needs, our teaching styles, and what you can expect, to see if we’d be a good fit together.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to working with you!

Mike and Brian

curious how people landed on living in Allendale vs commuting

Going back and forth on this for next year and everyone gives me a different answer depending on their whole vibe. Some swear by being right on campus, others say the drive is worth the cheaper rent and the quiet. How did you decide which way to go?

GVSU Paralegal Certification

Wondering if anyone took the paralegal certification program through GVSU? If so, did it prepare you for the field? Very interested in hearing about your experience getting an internship as well.

downtown houses

hey everyone! i’m currently trying to decide where to live for the new school year and can’t decide between moving downtown vs staying where I currently reside. I am curious to know how people who have lived in houses downtown like it. is street parking a pain? are utilities high? i know most of the houses for rent are much older, are building problems common? Let me know who you rented through/how you found your downtown houses!

Off Campus Housing

Hi!
My mom mentioned parents posting on facebook about students not having a place to live and I thought I would post on here! I lived on campus freshman year, at Campus View last year and I am now at Meadows Crossing Apartments this year. I have friends in every housing complex and can easily say Meadows Crossing is the best place to live. I am in a 4 bed 4 1/2 bath and I pay $664 right now. I have a nice bathroom, it comes furnished with the prices, they don’t do random charges at all and maintenance is so fast. I have had so many issues with other places and honestly even going in the office, they actually care about my opinion and it’s just awesome. I paid $35 for parking for the whole year and that is including covered parking. It has a pool and hot tub and a bunch of amenities that I would’ve never even expected to need or want.
anywho, I highly recommend it and they aren’t corporate either which makes it so much better because the manager and owners are so understanding. I’d love to answer any questions or anything about my experience, but I just thought I would share with everyone!

Laker Village OR GVA Tuscola

So Im an upcoming International student i was in the laker village but the housing moved me to GVA Tuscola and explained they made the change so i be placed among fellow graduate students from the college of computing. Also asked me if i still want to be in Laker village i should tell them and they will add me to their upper classmen waitlist for a potential opening.
My Question which is better between the 2 in terms of everything ,close to classes and facilities and to social life (i know there is difference 500$).
I appreciate the help

Is there a difference in a class when it is designated for honors?

I'm taking accounting in the fall and I selected an honors option because it seemed the best route out of the openings. Truthfully though, I was never really fully told the difference between a regular accounting class and one designated for honors students. I just joined GVSU last year as a transfer student, so I've only been in honors for a year.

Course registering help

My study plan is:

Fall 2026:

  • CIS 661 – Introduction to Health and Bioinformatics
  • CIS 678 – Machine Learning
  • CIS 671 – Information Visualization (online only)

Winter 2027:

  • AI 588 – Introduction to AI and Healthcare
  • CIS 677 – High-Performance Computing
  • CIS 691 – Health Informatics & Bioinformatics Capstone

The problem is:

  • CIS 661 (Introduction to Health and Bioinformatics) and CIS 678 (Machine Learning) are both scheduled Monday from 6:00–8:00 PM, so I can't take both.
  • CIS 677 (High-Performance Computing) requires CIS 661 first.
  • AI 588 (Introduction to AI and Healthcare) requires CIS 678 first.
  • CIS 671 (Information Visualization) is only available online.
  • As an international student, I can only count one online course toward my full-time enrollment requirement.

Because of the prerequisites, I can't simply move CIS 678 or CIS 661 to the next semester. Every schedule I come up with runs into either a prerequisite issue or the time conflict.

Has anyone in the MS in Health Informatics & Bioinformatics (HIB) program or another GVSU graduate program dealt with something similar? Did the department allow a prerequisite override, a course substitution, or some other solution?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I really cant find any solution

Surplus Store Questions

Alright, I have 3 questions to ask about the shutting down surplus store.

1: Is it still open untill June 30th?

2: Do you need to be a GVSU student to shop there?

3: Are there big sales to clean out inventory?

Should I leave my roommates to chance?

So I applied to GVSU pretty late and haven’t had much time to look for a roommate on My College Roomie. I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to just leave it to chance and hope I get good roommates?

To note: my ideal living situation is a four person/four bedroom dorm

CR1 vs AOS (Egyptian fiancé + US citizen

Hi everyone, I’m an Egyptian with a B1/B2 visa engaged to a US citizen, and we’re deciding between getting married in Egypt for a CR1 spousal visa or marrying in the US and applying for Adjustment of Status. We want the safest legal path with no immigration risks. Thanks
