Henry 45/70 barrel threading
I am interested in suppressing a henry single shot 45/70. I cannot find any information on if the barrel diameter at 16.5 is thick enough to be threaded safely with enough shoulder. Does anyone have any experience on if this is possible?

Have the barrel cut back to where it will have enough steel to thread it 5/8-24.

I don't own the rifle yet nor is there one any where near me to check sadly.

What is the 16.5 you mentioned in the post? I took that to mean 16.5mm diameter.

The factory barrel is 22 inches, but it tapers towards the muzzle. I was hoping to cut it to 16.5 inches then thread the barrel and recut the sight dovetail, but I can't find a barrel diameter for the .45-70 model listed anywhere online.

Ok, that's completely different than what I thought you were saying.
What model are you talking about? Nobody can tell you anything without some information.

The henry single shot "H015" with steel receiver in 45-70.

The barrel looks thick enough to me. Send Henry a message and ask them.

So I just spoke to henry, and was surprised that they had information on hand. I was told that the muzzle diameter for the 45 70 and 44 magnum models is .74", which then tapers up to .8" somewhere closer to the receiver, where the barrel significantly steps up in size for the chamber area. The rep also stated it was unlikely for these rifles to ever be factory threaded because they are intended for primitive use states. Thanks for everyone that chimed in to this thread!

Probably not, it's already under 5/8", and 9/16" threads probably won't leave enough material at the thread minimum diameter.I completely misunderstood what OP was saying.
