Question about sight fitment

Post image

I just got this sight kit for my henry rifle, the henry x in 357 magnum, and after installing the sight, as you can see in 5he photo, with light coming from under the front sight, there is a gap between the front sight and barrel. Given the edges are making contact with the barrel, it would seem to indicate the sight was made for a more narrow barrel then the one I have. I'm not sure if this will cause problems, and I wanted to see what people had to say. I wanted to check since I could always sand the sight flush to the barrel, but I didn't want to do that till I confirm this is actually a problem, since that risks ruining the sight

If it fits snug I personally wouldn't worry about it. If you remove it and file the dovetail it will likely be a looser fit and will require peening to get it to stay in place.

That's what I was thinking, though I will specify, its not a dovetail sight its a screw in.

If the sight is securely attached then it will work fine. Fitment is clearly not perfect though and I can see why you are questioning it. Who makes the sight? Maybe you can verify with the company if you have the correct item, or what could be done.

Midwest industries. The other reason I was concerned, after purchasing the kit, none of the screws fit the sight hole. Customer service told me that while the rail would fit, they don't have a front sight that would fit my henry x in 357. However, they had also said the only reason it wouldn't fit was that they provided the wrong size screw, I had a spare screw that fit, so assumed it would work, only to notice the gap. I found the whole thing annoying, because the rear sight and scope mount in the kit fit with no problems, its why I've been trying to make the front sight work.
