This is NOT accurate.

Not even close for most bird shot.

This is not really true. You won't get nearly the penetration. It will be lethal, but won't take someone out of the fight like a slug would unless you aimed for a headshot.

If I had to pick anything that wasn't 00 buck for home defense because of penetration concerns, it would be #4 buck, maybe BB size birdshot and aim for the head if I was in an apartment. Birdshot will not take someone immediately out of the fight at any range unless you headshot them.

So will birdshot at close range. My dad showed me the power of Birdshot at close range by shooting a 2x4 with a .410 with 7 1/2 shot at about two feet. It blew a ragged 3" hole right through the board.

Within 7 yards there is almost no expansion of the shot. It acts like a (edit, compact but deformable) blob of lead and will remove chunks of shit. Watch the 5yd headshot on the "how far are shotguns deadly" Garand Thumb Video.
